Later on in the day the thunder had stopped, but Brooklyn was still extremely jittery and on edge. She had retreated to the library at lunch. This was one of the few times that she wanted to be alone.
Besides, she was awfully behind on school work.
Brooklyn spread her books out on the desk in front of her and sighed. She wondered if she kept staring then it would suddenly click and all make sense.
She envied people who were naturally academic. She wouldn't call herself dumb, but school work just seemed to refuse to go in.
"Hey, do you mind if I sit?" A girl asked.
Brooklyn looked up and smiled, remembering the girl, Cassie. "Of course not."
Cassie took a seat opposite Brooklyn. "You look confused."
"That obvious?" Brooklyn laughed.
Cassie smiled sheepishly. "What class is it?"
"Math," Brooklyn sighed.
"I can give you a hand if you want," Cassie offered.
Brooklyn thought to Harry when he helped her revise. "That'd be great, if it's not a problem. I need to get this done by the end of the week and it feels like time is just flying by."
"It's not a problem," Cassie smiled and pulled her seat round so she was sitting next to Brooklyn. "Right, lets see where you are..."
*It's not like you to not be in the canteen, babe,* Harry's voice flowed into Brooklyn's head.
*I needed some space. Some time alone.*
*Yeah, because you look alone, right now,* Harry said sarcastically.
Brooklyn glanced at Cassie. *Get out of my head,* Brooklyn snapped and focused on Cassie. It wasn't long later and the questions were making some sort of sense to Brooklyn.
"Thank you!" Brooklyn gasped. "You're a lifesaver!"
Cassie laughed. "Happy to help," she said and reached into her bag and pulled out a grilled chicken sandwich. Brooklyn looked at the food and felt her stomach grumble, yet she felt like she couldn't stomach anything. The idea of food making her feel sick. Brooklyn sighed and shook her head. This morning had really messed her up.
"I think I've got it," Brooklyn said. "Sorta. Thank you again."
"It's no worries," Cassie shrugged.
"Math and French drive me insane," Brooklyn admitted. "They just don't make sense to me."
"Does Harry not help you understand it at all?" Cassie asked. "I hear that he's very smart."
Brooklyn rolled her eyes. "Harry does a lot of things, but help rarely seems to be one of them," she said.
"What is he like?" Cassie asked, lowering her voice. "He's always so quiet, no one seems to know him apart from his friends! How well do you know him?"
Brooklyn rolled her eyes. "I know him more than I want too."
"He seems... different around you," Cassie said. "You're the only person that seems to affect him. You can easily see he cares about you."
"He's rude, controlling and seems to think that everyone will listen and do as he says," Brooklyn said. "It annoys him that I don't."
*Watch yourself, babe,* Harry said.
"And no matter how hard I try he always seems to end up back in my head," Brooklyn grumbled.
"But you like him?" Cassie said.
"I don't want to talk about Harry," Brooklyn sighed.
"Sorry," Cassie said.
"Don't apologise, he's just a lot to handle," Brooklyn said. "It's nice getting a breather from him."
*Do you want to stop trash talking me to the nerd, Brooklyn?* Harry's voice flooded her mind and she could sense his annoyance.
*I'm only saying the truth.*
*I'm very private, babe, I would like my life to stay that way.*
*It is my life too,* Brooklyn said.
*Whatever happens between me and you, it's our business. No one else's.*
"I better get on with my work," Brooklyn said and managed to push Harry out of her mind.
"If you ever need help just ask," Cassie said kindly and slid a slip of paper across the table with a number scrawled on it.
"Thank you," Brooklyn smiled and looked back at her books.
*
At the end of the day Brooklyn put her books in her locker and and made her way out of school. She was going to catch a lift to work with Violet. She spotted Violet in the car park and waved, but she was soon dragged to the side by Harry and pulled over to his car.
"I told you, you're not going to work," Harry said into Brooklyn's ear.
"Harry, this isn't up for debate," Brooklyn said. She pulled her arm away from Harry's grasp so she wouldn't feel the sparks. They would mess with her mind.
"I know it isn't. You're not going," Harry said.
"You don't get to decide that!" Brooklyn said. "It's my choice!"
"It's a stupid and dangerous choice," Harry said. He opened his car door. "Get in."
"No! Harry, you're not the boss of me!" Brooklyn gasped. "You can't just order me around and expect me to do every fucking thing you say!"
Harry clenched his jaw and tapped his fingers impatiently on the door.. he stepped closer to Brooklyn. "I do when it's your safety involved, Brooklyn," he said into her ear. She gulped he brought his hand up to the side of her neck and spread his fingers into her hair. Brooklyn shivered. "Now, get in the damn car."
His touch was intoxicating, but Brooklyn managed to push him away. "No," she said firmly. "I'm going to work!"
Harry gritted his teeth and narrowed his eyes at Brooklyn. She was pissing him off and she knew it. "No, you're fucking not! Not while Ben is there!"
"It's not like he's going to attack me in a diner full of people!" Brooklyn exclaimed. "I'm not going home to my dad, so I'm going to work! I need a little normal in life, Harry!" Brooklyn took a step away but Harry grabbed her hand, stopping her.
"Don't walk away from me, babe. You're starting to make a scene. Just get in the car and we can talk about this then."
"I don't care if I'm making a scene! You're being a controlling ass! I won't stand for it! And the moment I get in that car I know I most certainly will not be going to work. Now, let go of me and stop being an ass and let me go to work!"
There was a whistle and Brooklyn looked over when Greyson walked up to them. "Little tip, Brooklyn," he said and glanced at Harry with a small smirk, "don't piss of the wolf."
"Go to hell, Greyson," Brooklyn said.
Greyson tutted and crossed his arms over his chest, raising his eyebrows at her. "Don't piss off the Alpha either."
"Harry, let me go. Seriously," Brooklyn said. "Do you really think I would be going to the diner if I thought I was going to get hurt!"
"Brooklyn, I think I'm much more experienced in making decisions about this world," Harry snapped. "I'm not going to say this again, get in the fucking car."
"I said no! What are you going to do? Drag me into the car?" Brooklyn rolled her eyes. "Harry, just let go of me."
"I think you'll find," Greyson called, "that dragging you into the car is exactly what he will do."
Brooklyn looked at Harry with wide eyes and he pulled her close to him. "Don't you dare!" She gasped and tried to push away from him.
"You don't leave me much of a choice, babe," Harry growled and he placed two hands on Brooklyn's upper arms and pushed her towards the open car door.
"Fucking hell, Harry-" Brooklyn was cut off when she was gently, but firmly shoved into the car. The door was immediately slammed in her face and she scrambled for the door handle. "Fucking ass!" She yelled when Greyson walked in front of the door and leaned on it, his weight stopping her from being able to open it.
Harry was in the car seconds later and Brooklyn heard the click of the doors locking.
"Harry, this is insane!" Brooklyn exclaimed. Harry started the engine and turned to look at Brooklyn.
"Nothing is insane when it come to your safety," he said and reached over and pulled Brooklyn's seatbelt over her. He then put the car in gear and drove out of the school.
"Harry, seriously, what the fuck!" Brooklyn hissed. "I can't believe you!"
"Really?" He snapped. "You're shocked that I'll do everything possible to protect you."
"Protect me!" Brooklyn shouted. "He's not going to do anything at work! At fucking work, Harry! He doesn't even know about you!"
"We don't know that, Brooklyn! I'm not taking the risk!"
"It's not your choice!" Brooklyn argued. "It's my life!"
"Your life is part of mine now, so I get a say," Harry growled.
"A say! That is not making the whole fucking decision for me!"
"It is when you're being stupid and not thinking about the danger you want to put yourself in!" Harry shouted.
"It's a four hour shift!" Brooklyn yelled. "Nothing is going to happen! He won't do anything!"
"I've fucking said that you don't know that for sure!" Harry hissed.
"You don't know that he will do anything either!" Brooklyn said in exasperation. "Harry, I will stay pissed at you if you don't take me to work! I won't forgive you."
"That's fine, if it means you're safe."
"I'll keep my mind open still!" Brooklyn said. "Harry, for gods sake! Please! I can't go home to my dad. I can't! You have to let me do this!"
"No."
"Harry!" Brooklyn shouted, her anger rising. "This is fucking ridiculous! You're being a freaking asshole!"
"And you're being fucking stubborn!" Harry snapped.
"Stop the car!" Brooklyn demanded when she realised they were driving down the same road as the diner. "Stop the fucking car!"
"Oh, yeah, I'll do that since you asked so fucking nicely," Harry said sarcastically.
"Pull the hell over!" Brooklyn demanded and angrily yanked at the door handle that didn't budge.
"I'm not letting you out."
Brooklyn reached over Harry as they were nearing the diner and slammed her fist down on the button that unlocked the doors. The sudden motion surprised Harry and he slammed on the breaks.
"What the hell are you doing! Do you want us to crash?" He yelled, but Brooklyn ignored him, grabbed her bag and shoved the car door open. "Brooklyn!" Harry said and scrambled out of the car and hurried after Brooklyn as she made her way over to the diner.
She had just opened the door when Harry caught her wrist. "Brooklyn, babe, please!" Harry pleaded. "Don't fucking do this."
"Let go of me," Brooklyn snapped. "I can't believe you tried to control me like that! I'm not a toy that you have complete control over. I make my own damn decisions. They're mine to get wrong or right. Okay!"
"Brooklyn, come with me," Harry said, his voice dangerously calm.
"Go. To. Hell," Brooklyn said and pulled her wrist free from Harry just as Ben approached them.
"Is everything alright?" He asked, looking between Brooklyn and Harry.
Brooklyn shuddered at the thought of him killing werewolves, but she didn't let her fear or repulsion show. "Fine, Harry was just leaving! Weren't you?"
"No, not without you."
"Just fuck off!" Brooklyn snapped. "I can't bare the sight of you! You're not my dad! You don't tell me what I can and can't do. Am I fucking clear!"
"Are you really fucking carrying this on here?" Harry hissed.
"No, I'm not carrying this on. I'm going to work and you're fucking off!" Brooklyn snapped. "Stay away from me, Harry." Brooklyn walked into the diner and Ben blocked the door so Harry couldn't enter.
"I think you should leave, man," Ben said sternly.
"Fucking hell," Harry muttered and stormed away from the diner just as Brooklyn blocked him from her mind.
