Contract Marriage; Fated Love

Chapter 107

Ch. 107 / 137 Mar 20, 2026

The day was a busy one for Emily. She was working on a cloth and jewellery design for the wife of the president of France. Liam's school was celebrating their anniversary so they gave their pupils a day off. Emily had been seated and working for hours but she hadn't heard from her son, so she decided to check on him. Most probably, he was sleeping and if he truly was, she needed to wake him for bronch. He had a light breakfast of cereals and there was need for him to have a proper meal.

However, on getting to his room, it was a different story. He was sleeping as she thought but he was running a temperature.

“Baby, baby, wake up. What's the problem?” she asked, waking him.

“You are burning, how do you feel?”

Liam opened his eyes weakly,

“Mummy, I have a fever and I feel so weak.”

“Wait, I'll get a wet towel to decrease your body temperature, afterwards, you will eat so that you can take your drugs, okay?”

Liam nodded. Emily dashed into his bathroom and was soon out with a bucket and a towel. She then proceeded to towel his body to reduce the burning temperature. When she finished, she instructed the maids to serve his food and that was done immediately.

“I want to use the restroom,” he said, getting up.

“Do you need help?”

“No mummy, I'm fine.”

He went into the restroom and was out when he was done in there. As he was returning to his bed, he heard a slight whistling in his head, he felt his head spin, his body was weightless, his legs gave way and he fell to the floor.

“Liam? Liam!” Emily screamed and rushed towards him.

The first thing that occurred to her was to call her husband, his father. She took out her phone and called him. His phone rang but there was no response.

“No, Noah please. Answer your calls, please,” she cried as she tried again. This time, he answered.

“Babe please, I need your help at home,” she said as soon as the call connected.

“Oh Noah, you are so sweet. Ohhh…more…” a female voice which she recognised as Grace's moaned.

“Grace, kindly give the phone to your boss. I need to speak with him now!”

“Baby wait, I need to… ahhh… harder baby… turn off ….ohh Noah your phone..so….ohhh…” Grace moaned.

Emily's hands shook and she quickly pressed the red button. She was terribly shaken but she had to save her son first. She sent for the maids and asked them to call the driver immediately. He helped carry her son to the car and they drove to the hospital. Emily called Gu Yanxi and told her that Liam was ill. She left everything she was doing and promised to be there in no time.

The hospital was owned by the Harper family and upon arrival, Emily was given the VIP treatment and her son was attended to very quickly.

“My goodness, what happened to him?” Gu Yanxi asked the moment she arrived.

“Thank you for coming, I appreciate.” Emily heaved a sigh of relief. At least, she could have someone to support her.

“It's not a problem. What happened?” Gu Yanxi asked again.

“He was running a temperature and I used a towel to reduce it. Food was served and he requested to use the restroom. That was it, he fainted while on his way.” Emily narrated as tears welled up in her eyes, threatening to fall. She blinked severally to hold them back.

“Common, don't cry. He will be fine, okay?”

Emily nodded.

The door to Noah's office opened and Noah entered.

“Are you done with that?”

“Yes sir.”

“Let me take a look,” he replied. Grace turned the laptop for him to see and a smile of satisfaction played out on his face as he saw what she had done.

“This is good. Good job, Miss Shields. We can move over to the next stage now.”

They continued their work with no external distractions for the next thirty minutes before a slight knock came and his secretary entered.

“President Harper, you have a memo, sir.” He bowed and handed the tablet in his hands to his boss.

“What?” Noah exclaimed after reading the memo. He took his phone from the table, to make a call but it rang before he did.

“Good day, president Harper,” the caller greeted.

“I was about calling you. An impromptu meeting? Why do you have to fix such meetings?”

“I apologize, President Harper but there's nothing I could do about it. The company had it arranged and they informed me not long ago. I apologize for inconveniences,” his business partner, the CEO of Swiss group said to him.

Noah sighed.

“Fine, I'll be there.”

“Thank you, president Harper.”

When he hung up, Noah turned to Grace Shields and said,

“Miss Shields, we have an impromptu meeting with the producers and it kicks off in one hour. The meeting lasts for three days and I'll give you thirty minutes to get ready. Be back in thirty minutes for the flight. I'll have the memo sent to you.”

“Thirty minutes? Isn't that too…” she began.

“I clearly didn't ask your opinion and your thirty minutes is already ticking. If you are not here in thirty minutes, I'll travel without you and then you can sort out means to be in the capital city in thirty minutes to meet up with the time for the meeting,” Noah responded. Grace then stood up and left the office calmly. She knew she had better spend her time wisely.

As she left, Noah turned to his secretary and said,

“Have my card, I'll like you to get some things needed for this trip from the stores. Everything I will need for the three days.”

“Yes sir,” James Sullivan said, bowed and left with the card. All he needed to do was to call the store and make a request and it will be delivered to him in no time.

Noah looked at the memo again and frowned. Another time to be away from his lovely family. He would miss them so much but he didn't have enough time to go home and see them before leaving. However, he would be back before they knew it. He took his phone and called his wife. She needed to know that he was going to travel on a short business trip.
