“Three hundred million dollars? How do I raise that? Do you think I have money to throw around? Let me go please. I promise, I will not tell anyone.”
“You are a Harper and that money is nothing compared to what you have in your bank. Do you know your family networth? At the snap of your fingers, you can produce that money. Again, it's not about you. I want to trust you but the security will still be after me. If you send the money, you will also have to sign that you will never tell anyone what happened here. I can't imagine myself behind the bars for any reason. You can always say you went out to cool your head and turned off your phone. Three hundred million dollars and you will be out of here and we will both be free and fine.”
“Elisha, I don't have such money. It's too much. That's a very huge sum. I don't have it.” Gu Yanxi complained.
“Well, whenever you do, only then will you leave here.”
Two weeks had passed already but Gu Yanxi wasn't seen yet. Aidan was forced to tell her father the situation of things and the man slumped.
Noah was just leaving the office after the day's work when his phone rang.
“Noah! Dad passed out! I had to tell him about Gu Yanxi and this happened!” Aidan disclosed.
Not again. Noah felt his legs grow weak and his phone fell from his hands. It could have been a different story if his secretary didn't catch the phone before it hit the floor.
“Are you alright sir?”
“Reschedule all the meetings for tomorrow and prepare the private jet. I'm travelling right now!”
Noah was by his father's bed side in no time. The shock was too much for the man hence he passed out. His only daughter was missing right after her wedding! His ailing health didn't help matters and his condition was critical. Noah loved his father so much and the last thing he wanted was for the man to die. He wasn't happy with him because he had taken Grace's side but blood was still thicker than water. This was the state of the Harper family. They had a sick father and a missing sibling, and this disorganised the family entirely although they concealed it from the public.
Meanwhile, Gu Yanxi finally agreed to make the payment but Elisha asked her to hold on until she was ready and she was sure that the coast was clear. She didn't want anyone tracking her with the bank transaction Gu Yanxi made. The first thing she did was to prepare the contract and asked Gu Yanxi to sign it. She made Gu Yanxi promise never to tell anyone what happened and that they would never meet each other ever again. She also told Gu Yanxi to tell anyone who asked about her whereabouts that she only took a break and turned off her phone because she wanted to cool her head, think and figure some things out. Gu Yanxi didn't like these terms but she had to go on with it so that Elisha could set her free. She recently got married and didn't want to fall sick for any reason or due to inconvenient and unconduvive environment. Having signed the contract, Elisha began putting her things together and preparing to travel.
Emily was in her office one day when her secretary informed her that she had a visitor. When the person was ushered into the office, it turned out to be Grace Shields.
“How may I help you?” Emily asked.
“Obviously, I don't need your help. But hey, I'll be very precise and clear. When are you going to know your place and leave Noah you gold digging slut! In case you forgot, I'm pregnant for Noah and I will not have this child out of wedlock. Neither will I abort it because it's a Harper and a fortune child. Noah has never loved you, yes. I'm back now and I'm here to take what belongs to me. When will you get the divorce?” Grace ranted.
“Miss Shields, I advise you leave my office and direct your question to Noah. Now, get out or I'll call the security.”
“Did you see me in action on the day Deep harbor was opened? Noah didn't invite you because he recognised me as his wife. You are not needed in his life, quickly leave you whore! Everything about you is disgusting! Gosh.”
Emily pressed an inconspicuous button on her table and soon, there was a slight knock and the security entered.
“Madam, please, leave or we will be forced to use action,” their leader said.
Grace turned to Emily and taunted,
“Oh, I see. Just to avoid hearing the truth, you called your cheap security to throw me out, is that it?”
“Madam, please leave!”
“I will. And as for you, Emily, wait for me.”
Emily waited till the end of the month but didn't hear anything from Noah concerning the divorce so she was forced to call him. Moreover, Grace kept sending her messages and asking her to leave her man until she was forced to blacklist her number.
“I'm sorry, Emily. Can we talk about this when I return? I have a family emergency so I had to rush home. You know fully well that my sister and father are not stable at the moment.”
“The family problems has nothing to do with our divorce. All hands are on deck to find Gu Yanxi and she will be with us in no time. You have allowed your mistress to give me no rest and you want me to keep waiting until the day you decide to release me from this mess? She goes around parading as your wife, who's about to have your child and you still keep me here? Do you just want to humiliate me?Just sign the papers and you all can fix yourselves after that!” Emily snapped.
“I have a family emergency and this is what you have to say? My dad's hospitalised and Gu Yanxi is missing and you say this? How much hatred do you harbor for me in your heart? Do you realise that I'm destabilized as we speak? Is this because of this whole Grace issue or is there something else? I've told you severally that there's a mix up somewhere but you have failed to see or understand that. Do you really open your mouth and say this to me after three years?”
“What were you expecting when you went out there and slept with another woman? Your ex for that matter!”
“Don’t accuse me yet. I have taken pains to explain that this was a set up. I will never cheat on you, is that too hard to believe? We've been together for three years, three good years and you don't believe me? Do you not know the things I'm capable of doing?”
“I ceased to know what you could do when you started telling cheap lies. You are evil!”
“Look, you are hurting my ego. I gave out my all for this marriage and here you are, interrogating me like a criminal. Why can't you believe me when I say something? If I had anything with her, you will be the first person to know because I'll explain to you and ask your forgiveness before anything else. Can you stop accusing and calling me names?”
Emily could sense that Noah was hurt but she didn't care. She was even more broken to note that she had loved a cheat all these years.
“I can't wait for anymore. I have sent the divorce papers to you long ago and you either sign it or we will meet in court!”
“Is this all you have to say to me?” Noah asked, his voice shaking.
“You know what I want. Give it to me. Let me out of this that's all.”
“Fine. I'll be there today. A divorce you want and that I'll give you.”
Noah got the pilot, took his jet and travelled from his home town in San Francisco, California to where he lived with his family in New York city. He spent the night in the hotel that day. He went to his office as soon as the day broke, checked for the file in his drawers and flew home with it. Next, he drove straight to his house and his wife was there, as he expected. He took out a fancy pen from his pocket and put his signature on the paper.
“Here, I've signed it. I'll do as you have requested and I'll never show up in front of you again. Send my warmest regards to your son.” With that, Noah turned and left the house for good. Emily took the signed papers with a heavy heart. It was true that she wanted a divorce but it hurt her too.
Having settled Emily, Noah returned to his father's side. Surprisingly, Gu Yanxi returned home that day. Elisha wanted to sell her car but to avoid getting caught, she left it. Early that morning, she made Gu Yanxi drive her to the airport before she left for her own house.
“Madam! Thank goodness you are home!” one of the servants shouted when he saw her. Gu Yanxi treated them well and in turn they were loyal and devoted to her. She had her bath, slept for an hour before calling her husband. They were all in the hospital when the call came.
“Gu Yanxi is calling!” he exclaimed.
“Gu Yanxi?”
“Hello baby,” Gu Yanxi’s voice rang out from the phone. It was really her! As requested, Gu Yanxi showed up at the hospital.
“Gu Yanxi where have you been?”
“What happened? Where were you? We were worried sick!”
They all had so many questions to ask but Gu Yanxi had the contract she signed at the back of her mind. She told them exactly what Elisha had asked her to say.
“What do you mean by that? You just disappeared, got the whole family scared, put dad in this condition and this is all you have to say? Are you crazy?” Noah thundered.
