"Hello, may I come in?" Lena peeped through the door to Darian's office, she smirked, pulled the door open, and ambled inside. "How are you?" She asked in a singsong voice.
"Hey, what are you doing here?" Darian smiled, he wasn't expecting her to be in his office at that hour. She was supposed to be at the casino.
"I brought you food," she winked at him.
"Food?"
"Yes, you were in a hurry to leave the house this morning. Tina cooked for you, but you didn't even eat. I couldn't go to the casino without bringing your food. Wait, what were you planning to eat if I didn't bring your food?"
"I drank some coffee, and I was planning to eat lunch later on. You didn't have to worry about me, you know?" He sighed, she was doing too much for him.
Since the day he opened up to her about the pills, she'd changed so much.
"I won't let you do that. Lunch is good but breakfast is compulsory too." She dropped the bag in her hand on the vacant part of the desk and winked again. "I boarded a cab here."
"Why would you?" His lips crooked into a frown.
"I just felt like. It feels so cool to come out freely without the bodyguards hovering around me." She said, jerking her shoulders.
"I will fire Dickson and Harrison." He said in a stern voice.
He picked up his phone to call them and query them. Lena quickly gamboled to his side to take the phone away from him.
"Darian, they didn't know I left the house alone. I lied to them that Gaby and her bodyguards were coming to pick me up." She pursed her lips, hugging him. "Please don't bother them. You know I was used to boarding cabs and taking a walk, but all that changed since I got married to you. And today, I didn't want to act as Don's wife, I wanted to just be me. Walk around, then board a cab here." She sat on the desk and faced him.
"I won't let you board a cab back. I will drop you off at the casino myself." He finalized.
"Agreed," she went back to sit on the armchair, her eyes not leaving Darian as he worked professionally on a file. She admired him and smiled. "You have to eat now," she muttered.
"I will, but let me finish with this." He smiled and returned his eyes to the computer. "I have a project to finish before evening. There is a contract my company is bidding for. I have to stay online to get more information about it, it's huge, I can't afford to lose it."
"Oh, I believe you will get it." She checked for time on her wristwatch. "Amy must be so mad at me right now, but I don't care what she does." She asserted, giggling.
"You have the boss's wife privilege, she can't do anything to you," Darian assured her.
"She doesn't care about all that, and I honestly do not care either. That casino." She huffed a sigh, shaking her head boringly. "I don't want to work there, please." She threw her hands at him.
"I know you don't." After sending an email, he rested his hands on the desk and stared at his wife. He hadn't properly looked at her since she came into his office. He noticed she didn't wear a dress today like she always did.
She wore skinny jeans and a tank top. Her hair was packed in a messy bun, and she had no makeup on. Smiling, he shook his head. Lena didn't like to overdress like most women he'd met in the past. She was always very simple and he kind of liked that.
"Your secretary isn't on her seat, is she sick?" She asked, unwrapping the bag she brought along with her to the office. The sweet smell of fried chicken assailed his nose, he inhaled sharply and smiled. "I know you will like it." She jerked her thumb at him. "So, why isn't she at work?"
"She resigned," he answered. "Due to personal reasons," he added, he felt Lena would want to ask him why Thelma resigned.
There was no way in the world he was going to tell her Thelma resigned because she was in love with him and didn't want to fall into the temptation of sleeping with him again.
The guilt of sleeping with Thelma ate him deeply, but he quickly shook it off his mind.
"Oh," she served the chicken on a plate. "You have a couch here in the office, let's go over there."
Darian helped with the bag. He dropped it on the coffee table in the center of the office and they sat side by side. She served the food on a plate, watching as he devoured the food. He was hungry and she was glad she was thoughtful enough to bring him food.
"You haven't gotten a new secretary since she left?" She got off the couch to get him some water from the refrigerator. She poured the water into a glass, setting it on the table, she sat next to him.
"They've been candidates, but none of them matched what I want in a secretary." He said in a muffled voice.
"I see," she nodded her head. "How about you employ me? I can work well, you know? I had good grades in school, I was the best in my class. Will you consider that?"
"No," he replied frantically.
"Why?" She asked, disappointed. "Are you scared that I would distract you at work?" She held onto his strong arms and looked up at him. "Don't worry, I won't do too much, I will just pass a notice to everyone who works here that I am the boss's wife and no one should come close to you, else I will bite off their ears." She laughed softly. Darian chuckled. When he wasn't looking at her, she pecked his cheeks and ran away from his side. "Eat up, I have to leave for the casino." She told him.
"Yes ma'am," he slanted his head. "Why did you run after pecking me? Are you trying to seduce me in my office?"
