Wedded To The Ruthless Mafia Boss

52. There is no us

Ch. 52 / 166 Jan 15, 2026

Thelma banged the door hard as she walked into Darian's office. She steadied herself with every step that she took. She dropped the files in her hands on the desk and crouched down on the armchair before he ordered her to sit.

"I didn't call for you," Darian's voice was stern.

"You don't have to call for me before I come into your office, Darian." She chuckled lightly.

He arched his brows and shot her a glare. "What's the deal?" He asked, his voice sterner than before.

"Your wife is so beautiful. Why did you cheat on her with me?" She asked. Folding her arms against her chest, she relieved her back on the armchair and waited for his response.

"Thelma, I told you, I warned you to discuss only office-related matters with me." He wondered why she was bringing that up again after weeks of seeing Lena with him at the restaurant.

She had acted cool around him the next week at the office, she didn't even mention anything about what she saw. Why now? Why was she talking about his wife all of a sudden? It bothered him.

"Yes, you did. But no matter how hard I think of it, I can't seem to get this off my head. You cheated on your wife with me!" She slammed the desk angrily.

"Thelma," he called, staring suspiciously at her. "We have resolved this before, we don't have to go over it again. That night was a mistake and it would never happen again." He tried to calm her.

"I was serious when I told you that I'd let go of you, Darian. I was serious when I gave up on you, I was serious, I meant my words but you pushed me to do it. I would have refrained from calling you if you hadn't come over to my house that night, but you did. You showed up and I couldn't resist you, I don't dare to resist you when you are standing in front of me staring at me with those eyes I fell in love with, Darian." Thelma heaved a sigh.

Darian looked confused. They had never talked about falling in love with each other. She was just his regular fling.

"When I saw your wife at the restaurant that evening, I felt terrible. So bad, you cheated on her with me. She's beautiful and I am not any less beautiful, but you chose her over me, and I still shamelessly gave my body to you. How pathetic." She said through gritted teeth. "Darian, that woman you call your wife, you do not deserve her." She said out harshly, pointing a finger at him.

His head drooped guiltily. He had tried to get over that night he cheated on Lena. He was in the process of putting it behind, but Thelma wasn't making it easy for him now. He hated the guilt that ate deep within him whenever he remembered that night. He shouldn't have done it.

"How do you think she'd feel if she finds out about us?" Thelma giggled meanly.

"There is no us, Thelma!" Darian screeched. "There is no us."

"Yes, there is no us because you didn't find me worthy of being your woman. All I was good at doing was warming your bed." She laughed, wiggling her head as she stared into his eyes.

She could see the trepidation building inside of him as she stared at him. He fumed in anger, but deep down, he was a bit scared, he had fears he was dealing with.

"The whore you have as a secretary is ready to do you a favor." She dropped an envelope on the desk and slid it next to him.

"What's in there?" He queried, his hand hastily moving forward to grab the envelope. He tore the lid and glanced through the sheet of paper, he looked back at her. "A resign…"

"A resignation letter," she beat him to it. "I am resigning." She dropped.

"Why?"

"I can no longer work here, Darian. Working here is bad for me. I will get to your face all the time and I am afraid that," she raised her head to meet his eyes. "That night will repeat itself. I don't want to be the reason you cheat on your wife." She stated, gazing away from him when he narrowed his eyes on her.

"That night won't repeat itself," he assured her.

"We agreed to be just friends with each other but you slept with me. The problem here is not you, Darian. The problem is me. I can't stay here, watch the man I love and can't do anything to him. I can't, it kills me and I refuse to be your whore. I should leave here." Thelma said.

"Thelma, we can talk about this. We just have to set some rules." Darian couldn't afford to lose her.

She was best at what she did, she had been his secretary since he started the company. He trusted her with everything about the office, she was the only one who could do the job better. He didn't want to lose her because of their mistake.

"There is no other way for us to put an end to this but for me to stop working with you, Mr. Dawson." She stood up. "I never planned to leave my job like this. This is the job that I have come to love so much but sometimes, we just have to give up on some things."

"Thelma," Darian called. "You know you can't leave. You cannot just come to my office to drop a resignation letter after all these years!" He was angry now and she could see the fury that gleamed in his eyes.

She placed her hands on the desk and smiled briefly. "You know you can't stop me, Darian."

"Thelma! You can't do this, the company needs you now more than ever." His voice was louder than normal. He lowered his voice after noting that she wasn't going to change her mind.

"Do live a good life and remember to always stay faithful to your wife. I will see you in the future." With that said, she walked away from his office and out of his life without taking a second glance at him.

Darian dug his nails into his hair and sighed, he needed to get a replacement as soon as possible. It was obvious Thelma was never going to come back.

He thought of Lena and heaved a sigh, he wondered what she was doing at that moment.

He had hurt her, but he hoped there is a way he'd conceal that secret inside of him. He didn't want to imagine what would happen if she found out that he slept with Thelma.

The beeping sound of his phone jolted him out of his thoughts, he glanced at the screen and the caller was Lena.
