Later that night, Darian got back home to meet Lena in the living room. She was watching a soap opera when he got in. He stopped at a standstill, watching her as Jay's words replayed in his mind over and over again.
He walked past her but halted when he felt her eyes on him. He turned around and said, "Hey, I was in a meeting when you called. How was your day?"
Lena pressed her lips together, her eyes locking with his. She missed him so much she wanted to hug him so badly but she held back, she was mad at him for keeping things away from her and for hanging the call on her.
"Good," she replied curtly and turned back to the television, focusing her utmost attention on it.
Darian shrugged and walked into the room. She turned her head back to him, watching his back as he walked into the hallway. It was torture for her, she drooped her legs on the tiled floor, she couldn't bear not talking to him, she had been thinking about him.
She dropped her ego, straightening up, she took hurried steps towards the hallway that led to their bedroom.
Darian was unbuttoning his shirt when Lena slammed the door shut, she walked in and sat on the bed. Folding her arms against her chest, she watched as Darian did his business. He finished with the buttons and went to the closet to pick out clothes he would be wearing after taking a shower.
When the silent treatment was killing her, she spoke up. "What's this unusual quietness?" She got out of bed and ambled toward him.
"I should ask you that, you seem mad at me." Darian picked green slacks and nodded his head.
"Really?" She scoffed, preventing herself from starting a quarrel. She didn't want to argue with him, she just wanted him to talk to her and tell her why he was drifting away. "You got my dad a car and maids and you never talked to me about it, is that how things work now?" She looked up at him.
"I will take that as a thank you." He pulled the shirt off his body and his trousers followed. Lena shut her eyes; he was making things complicated between them.
"Is that what you will say, Darian? What happened to us talking and making plans before getting things done? What happened to you kissing me before getting out of bed every morning?" Tears welled up at the corner of her eyes, the tears he hated to see. "You changed because I said I love you, that's my true feeling and I can't hide it from you!" She burst into tears.
Darian sighed, he walked closer to her, almost gripping her but he stopped.
"Why are you crying?" He asked her.
"You! You are the reason I am crying." She poked his chest.
He smiled, she was being her dramatic self now.
"I told you that I didn't mind you saying the words back to me. I don't even want you to say them, I just expressed my feelings and now you are making it seem like I have sinned." She sniffled.
He sauntered across the room to get a handkerchief. He pulled her closer, wiping her tears with the handkerchief.
"You love to cry." He inhaled the sweet scent of her shampoo, protectively wrapping his arms around her waist. He pressed a kiss to her forehead and smiled. "Why do you always cry?"
Lena buried herself in his arms, she loved it there and it was perfect whenever he held her like that. she wanted to last long in his embrace, he smelled too good to let go of him. She wrapped her arms around his back and cried. Darian smiled, rubbing her back.
"When I used to gamble with Gavin, he told us that he loved to buy that car someday if he had the money. I got him the car to make his dream come true, and about the maids, I saw that the only one with him couldn't take care of him alone. So, I employed two more to assist her. I am sorry I kept you in the dark." He shut his eyes, feeling her warmth as she relished in his arms.
Lena was the only one for him in the whole world and maybe
Jay was right. He was in love with her and would never want to hurt her.
He let go of her and looked into her eyes, wiping her tears with his finger. "You should stop crying, I don't like it when you do." He bent a little to kiss her cheeks.
Lena smiled, she took his fingers and intertwined them with hers. "You asked about my day." She said.
"And you gave me a monosyllabic response, good!" He mimicked her.
She blushed, "I was mad at you."
"What about now, are you still mad at me?" He asked, kneading his fingers on her lips. "Huh?"
Lena shook her head. "Not anymore." She asserted.
"Did you cook for me?" He smiled.
"I did." She lifted her head to kiss him. "Tina left very early today, she had to sort out some things in college. So, I cooked."
"Thank you." He kissed her lips again.
"Go have your bath while I set the table for dinner. I have been waiting for you." She said.
Darian nibbled on her lips for a few seconds before rushing into the bathroom.
Lena ambled to the mirror side to look into the mirror, she was all smiles when she heard the loud beeping of Darian's phone, she ignored it at first, but decided to check it when the call was incessant. She picked up the phone and the call ended, she dropped it back and it started ringing again.
"Darian, you have a call." She looked at the caller and it was Thelma. Squinting her eyes, she wondered why Thelma was calling Darian that night. "I thought she stopped working with him," she muttered. The call stopped and a text came in. "A text from Thelma too?" She glued her eyes to the screen and swiped up on the screen.
