Unknown POV
I couldn't believe my eyes; I thought they were a myth. A white wolf here at Moonlight Pack and fated to Alpha Jake of all wolves. Who would have thought it? The day I met my employer, I was gobsmacked. I didn't know what to do or what to say. And let me tell you; it was a shock for someone who could talk their way out of hell.
Two years ago...
I had walked into a country bar on the other side of Louisiana, looking for one wolf. His name was Jerry; the elders wanted him for the unwarranted slaughter of a group of rogues and a member of the Black Stone pack a couple of years back. He was considered dangerous because he killed out of boredom. He had also left their bodies for humans to find, something so reckless that it almost alerted them to our existence.
As I reached the bar, I showed the picture to the present men and women until one person told me they had seen him that morning. He had been staying at a ranch a few miles west of my location. Alpha Oliver of the Crescent Pack ran it; they were well known in this part of the country for taking in strays and providing shelter for those on the run. As I headed back to my truck, that's when I met him. The man that was about to change my life. For better or worse, I wasn't sure, but he offered me a proposition that was impossible for me to turn down.
I had asked him how he found me and learned of my skill set, but it turned out we had a mutual friend in common-a friend I owed my life to. See, I had been in a bit of a sticky situation with a group of rogues while on a job about eighteen years ago and had almost died. I wouldn't be here today if it hadn't been for this 'friend'. I did owe him my life, but after completing this job, we would be even. After all, I hated being in anyone's pocket.
Once I had dealt with Jerry, I returned to my new companion. He had told me about the young Princess who had escaped her fate fourteen years prior and how she now needed more protection than ever. After I had been given a description of the girl and sworn to secrecy by a blood oath, I began my search.
The present-day...
I watched the meeting between the white wolf and the alpha unfold. Learning all I could about the girl, any and every detail could be the one that saves her life. When I was confident this was who I was looking for, I headed back to my truck to make a phone call passing along the information I had gained.
"Keep an eye on her; they know where she is." And with that, he put down the phone.
Angels POV
Oh, my goddess! I can't believe he kissed me. As far as first kisses go... wow! It felt magical; it was just like something out of a children's fairy tale. The moon in the sky, the twinkling stars, it all just made it perfect. Star was still purring away even after Jake had left. There was so much I was still uncertain of, but one thing was for sure: I couldn't wait to kiss him again.
We were certain he was our mate; tomorrow would only confirm it. The butterflies in my stomach are doing little dances, making me feel all funny. I could only hope that the morning would come quickly. As we made our way home, I still had a massive smile on my face.
'I cannot wait for him to claim us. To finally be complete.'
'I know, Star, me too. I've waited my whole life to find my fated mate and have an epic love story of my own. Just like my parents had.'
'And epic it will be.' Star agreed. I knew I sounded like a schoolgirl with a crush, but I couldn't help it. I was just so excited. More excited than I had been about anything before.
As we reached home, I noticed a light was on downstairs, someone was still up, and I just hoped they hadn't noticed I had left. I crept up to the rose-covered trellis underneath my window and began to climb, minding the roses. Aunt Marie had said that roses were my mum's favourite and that she had them planted all around the palace. She would have gone mental if anyone had damaged just one rose head, and in a way, that detail made me feel as though I was like her in more than looks.
Once I reached my window, I halted. Sat on the edge of my bed was Uncle Nick, clearly waiting for me to return and knowing him, he knew I would come in this way. As I came through the window, I could feel the heat of his gaze burning holes into me, not to mention that his anger was rolling off him in waves.
'He looks pissed... good luck!' Ignoring Star, I sat beside my uncle, praying he would understand my situation and go easy on me.
"Angel, where the hell have you been? Do you know how worried we have been? You are old enough to know better. For goddess's sake, you could have been hurt... or worse."
"I'm sorry. I just needed to clear my head. I was angry that you both kept such a big secret from me. But I do understand why you did it."
"Ahh, kid, look, I'm sorry ok. We thought we were doing what was best to protect you. But I know we should have trusted you with the truth. From now on, no secrets. I promise."
"Then I guess I should tell you I met my mate again tonight. His name is Jake. Alpha Jake, to be exact."
"Well, then, I guess your old man was right. Who would have guessed."
"You mean my dad knew, but how."
"He didn't exactly know, but he did have his suspicions. At your second birthday party, Alpha John, Jake's dad, was invited and bought him and his Luna with him. Let's say you and Jake were inseparable. From then on, your dad was convinced you would be mates. Jake's dad didn't want him to be fated to you. Jake is an only child, and his dad wanted to keep the Moonlight Pack run by his bloodline. If Jake were mated to you, it would mean that one day, he would need to move to be with you at the Royal Pack. One day becoming King with you as his Queen."
"Could he not be alpha to both packs?"
"Not really. An alpha should remain with his pack, but the packs could always be merged. You would have to split time between two locations. It would be difficult, but it would work with some hard work and determination."
"That's confusing. But I know we will work something out when the time comes."
"First thing, though, is to tell Jake who you really are. Your identity could be too much for him to handle, and you may need to prepare for rejection if that's the case."
"He knows that I'm the granddaughter of the moon goddess. He told me she visited him and said that we both must accept each other ensuring my safety."
"Then accept each other, you must. It must be serious if she came here to warn him. But look, we'll all deal with this in the morning. Get some rest now because you've got a big day tomorrow." Uncle Nick gave me a wink as he walked out of my room, closing the door behind him.
Was I really in danger? Or did the moon goddess tell Jake that to ensure he accepted me? I guess time will tell.
