Angels POV
After Uncle Nick finally told me the big secret he shared with Aunt Marie, I was so angry with them. How could they keep the truth from me for sixteen years? I get that they were trying to protect me, but it's information about me and my mum, and I deserved to know.
'We know now that's what matters.'
'I'm Sorry, Star, I'm just agitated. We always said no secrets; then it turns out they have been hiding the biggest one of all.'
'Calm down, let's go for a run, take a breather, and clear our minds... You need it. We both do.'
'Your right. Let's go.'
'Don't you think we should tell them we're going out?'
'Nope, so where are we going?' I chuckled as I tried not to let my emotions get the better of me.
'Do you even need to ask?' Star winked, knowing I already knew what she was going to say.
Rolling my eyes, I threw a small duffle bag containing clothes out, and then we jumped out of my bedroom window and shifted just before I hit the ground. Star landed on all fours and took off before anyone could notice us. The last thing I needed today was someone to see my white wolf.
When we reached the forest line, the sun was beginning to set. The sky was beautiful, a mixture of pinks, purples, and oranges with the slightest tinge of blue. Star was amused by how the lowering sun made the shadows of each tree seem like never-ending giants. It was quiet, all except for the sound of the leaves as they shuffled when the wind blew them across the ground.
I may have come here angry, but the sight of my surroundings calmed me to my core, making my soul feel completely at ease. As we pushed through the darkening forest and made our way to the waterfall, the moon was almost high in the sky. The breeze had turned chilly, symbolising the summer nights were truly gone with autumn just on the horizon.
Suddenly Star jumped into a defensive stance as we heard the snapping of twigs and the crunching of leaves that came from behind us. She soon relaxed when her eyes met the beautiful blue eyes of the big black wolf we had seen multiple times before. The black wolf shifted back to his human form and stood there naked and proud before us, a smug look plastered on his face.
"Shift!" He tried to command me. Star just growled at him. As sexy and intimidating as he may be, she didn't like being told what to do, especially by someone who didn't even know us-Mate or not.
'Now, who needs to calm down.' I chuckled.
Star walked to a tree and gave me back control as we shifted back. I had quickly gotten dressed as I didn't want to stand in my birthday suit for him to see. I walked out from behind the tree to find him wearing only a pair of shorts. He didn't have them in his wolf's mouth when he came here, so he must have had a pair stashed in the tree.
"Hi, I'm Jake, Alpha to the Moonlight Pack." He spoke softly, offering his hand as a sign of respect.
"Angel." I said, taking his hand and, once again, feeling the familiar dance of hot sparks on my skin.
"Angel, aye, do you have a surname?" He asked while cocking his head to the side as if he had heard of me before.
"I do, but you haven't earned the right to know it." I replied, giving him an innocent smile, which Jake just laughed at.
"What's so funny?" Growing agitated, I crossed my arms over my chest.
"Oh, just that I already know so much about you, but you won't allow me to know your full name."
"We have only spoken briefly once before; how could you possibly know anything about me?"
"Well, you're the granddaughter of the moon goddess, are you not." He stood there, his hands in his pockets, looking extremely proud.
"How could you possibly know that?" I replied with my mouth agape while taking a step back. So many reasons clashed in my mind about how he could know such sensitive information, but it all boiled down to one thing. He had to be speaking to the Royal Pack's former Beta, which meant I was now in danger. Everything inside me told me to run, yet my eyes refused to leave his as I remained rooted in place.
"There's no need to fear me. I won't harm you, and I won't force you to be with me. I know what I do because of the moon goddess, or Selena as she's called. She came to me and told me that I needed to accept my mate. When I touched you, I felt the sparks and knew she meant you; however, I cannot smell your scent... why is that?" His explanation had me relaxing. Her name was something not even the old Beta knew.
"That's probably something to do with the fact that I'm not eighteen yet. My Uncle said that I shouldn't be able to feel my mate, but because of my blood, it may have allowed me to find you sooner."
"When are you eighteen? If you don't mind me asking."
"Tomorrow."
With that, Jake let out a dark chuckle. I couldn't help but wonder what he found funny. I shook my head at him, unamused by his reaction. As I turned to walk away, he grabbed my arm, turning me to face him. Jake's eyes met mine again, staring into them as if nothing else was present and I was the only thing he could see. Suddenly, his lips smashed into mine, coaxing a moan to escape me. After what felt like an eternity, Jake stepped back, a smile forming on his face.
"Until tomorrow then... my little wolf."
Jakes POV
After my visit from the moon goddess and my chat with Benson, I had a lot to think about. I still couldn't believe she had chosen to mate me to her flesh and blood. Don't get me wrong, I was honoured that she chose me, but I didn't understand why. It's not like I was a nice guy growing up; even today, I haven't really changed.
I had used the fact that I was of alpha blood to get what I wanted, whether it be free entry to the hottest club in town or women. Women were happy to throw themselves at me ever since I gained my wolf at sixteen. I wasn't going to turn them down. Growing up, I was told stories about having a mate and how having a Luna made the Alpha a stronger leader to his pack.
From a young age, I had been open to finding my fated mate when I reached eighteen until I started my alpha training on my sixteenth birthday. My dad finally told me what had happened with the royal pack years earlier. The loss of the Luna Queen had weakened the Alpha King resulting in his beta easily killing him. Though it had been speculated that foul play was involved, nothing had been proven. It was then that I vowed not to claim my mate, making myself an easier target for those who may wish to harm me. Love to me, was a weakness.
'Jake, how many times do we need to go through this? Being the moon goddess's granddaughter, she will be strong. You felt her power as I did the day we met her.'
'Hunter, that doesn't mean she won't have a weak spot. Everybody does. For an alpha, it's his Luna. I could only imagine what hers would be.'
I had a lot to think about. Deciding I needed to be alone and think things through, I shifted and headed down to my usual spot.
'If we're lucky she might be there.' Hunter sounded excited at the thought as he raced off into the forest.
Something about this place, especially under the moon, made me feel completely at peace with myself. As I reached the waterfall's edge, I noticed a white wolf. As it turned to face me, I knew immediately who she was-my beautiful blonde mate.
The colour white for a wolf was extremely rare. I learned that only two other white wolves existed during my alpha training. Both were said to have been gifted wolves. Though no one knew where they had come from, I wondered now if they were descendants of the moon goddess.
Angel... Her name matched her to the T. She looked like an angel. She really did. Though I'm sure under her innocent facade was a hint of the devil just waiting to be unleashed. She held a slither of mischief behind those big blue eyes; I knew it and couldn't wait to prove it.
I was dead set on rejecting her, but the longer I was in her presence, the more idiotic that idea became. She had this kiss-me smile about her, and before I knew it, my lips had smashed into hers. I had expected her to pull back, but she hadn't. I wanted to claim her, but I couldn't because she wasn't eighteen. If you marked an underage wolf, the process could kill them.
As a moan left her lips, I felt my cock instantly harden. This was a first for me. Usually, it took the she-wolves a while to get things started. I had to use a great deal of strength to stop kissing her; otherwise, I would have taken her there and then. My Goddess, she tasted irresistible. I stepped away from her, a massive smile etched onto my face.
"Until tomorrow then... my little wolf.' I told her as I walked away.
My decision had been made: I would find her tomorrow and make her mine. Consequences be damned.
