Angels POV
By the time we had what we needed, I could have sworn my stomach would eat itself; it rumbled so loudly that even people passing me were eyeing me strangely.
"If I have to hear your stomach growl like that again, I swear to the moon goddess, I'm going to drive off and leave you here." Sid laughed.
"Jake would kill you if you went back without me." I told him while shoving him.
"Yeh, good point. We should probably get you fed so that it doesn't happen, aye."
Sid was always trying to make a joke out of everything. I was beginning to believe he didn't have a serious bone in his body. Having only known him a few weeks, I didn't know how the guys could put up with him growing up. But all that aside, he seemed a good man, and Jake trusted him, which meant I did too. Once we all agreed to grab a burger before returning to the pack, we headed to Five Guys. Their burgers were unbelievably juicy and held so much flavour; even their portion of chips was gigantic. As we all began our meals, I noticed how Aunt Marie's eyes fogged over.
"We need to go NOW!" she shouted.
"What's happened, has there been another attack?" Rose asked.
Looking at Sid, his eyes were foggy for a moment before returning to their usual green.
"There hasn't been an attack on the pack, but Jake said they found a pool of blood in one of the corridors... William said it belonged to Nick. He's missing." My blood went cold as his words hit me.
Aunt Marie looked a mixture of pissed and broken; her mate, a man that was well-equipped to protect himself, was injured and missing. Two questions nipped at me... who would take him and why?
Nicks POV
Opening my eyes, I was blinded by a bright white light. It took a few minutes for my eyes to adjust before I could see where I was.
Well, I didn't see this coming.
I had been in this room many times sixteen years ago; only I wasn't the one sitting in the chair. I was back in the Royal Pack interrogation room, and it hadn't changed. My head was throbbing from the cut I had on the crown of my head, blood running down my face as the silver cuffs kept me from healing.
"Nick, I'm sorry, I couldn't let him kill her." Wayne's Voice came from the corner of the room. Stepping into the light, I could see how truly beaten he looked.
"Nick is what my friends get to call me. You, Wayne, are no friend."
"I'm sorry you feel that way. Just know he forced my hand."
"Your mate?" I asked, already knowing the answer.
"Yeh, she is pregnant with twins. He has her locked up in the next room. I felt this horrible pain three weeks ago, and when I tried to mind-link her, I was met with nothing. That's when Jason and his mate turned up, told me they had her, and even showed me a video of a man kicking her in the stomach."
"Are the pups ok?"
"One of them was distressed; I had to beg Jason to bring a doctor into her so we didn't lose it. When I agreed to help him, he agreed to the doctor. The deal was, that I got to spend five minutes a day with her until I got him into Moonlight Pack territory. But then you overheard a conversation you shouldn't have heard, and now here you are."
"He knows I would die before helping him."
"That Nick is what he is counting on. His main worry is Marie. He knows she's stronger than the pack's warriors, even without her having trained all this time." Clearly, he hadn't heard the latest.
"Hate to burst your bubble, but Marie has been offered the position of head guard. She's been training daily with the Moonlight Pack for the last two weeks."
Before Wayne could open his mouth to reply, the door opened, revealing a tired-looking Jason.
"Well, don't you look like shit! Karmas a bitch, isn't it. But I got to give it to William; he didn't let her suffer like you left Vanessa. Had it been me, I would have dragged her death out." And I would have because Vanessa was like a sister.
Jason scrunched his hand into a tight fist, his knuckles turning white.
"Oh... Sorry, did I happen to touch a nerve? A bit emotional, aren't we, Jason? Where the fuck was your emotion the day you destroyed our pack's peace, the day you took Vanessa away from her mate and daughter, or the day you tried to rape a FUCKING CHILD!" I stared at him, waiting for another blow to the face, only this time, I was met with a silver whip to my back. I felt the sting of the silver on my flesh as it ripped the fabric of my shirt.
"You think It didn't hurt me having to kill Vanessa? You knew I loved her from the moment I first saw her. Had she met me first, I could have had her, but no, she chose him over ME!"
"He was her mate, you fucking dimwit. Why on earth would someone as pure as her, the daughter of the moon goddess herself, reject her destined mate to accept a chosen one? She was fated to him for a reason, and if that wasn't enough, SHE LOVED HIM!" I shouted.
"LOVE, LOVE GETS YOU KILLED!" he shouted back. "It took me a while, but I finally figured it out. Crystal may have been my mate, and I was beginning to love her; she was even going to give me an heir, but HE took her away just like he did Vanessa!" he spat as he grabbed my shirt, pulling me closer to him. This tactic was used to intimidate your prisoner, but nothing was intimidating about him.
"You don't get it, do you, Jason? William didn't take Vanessa away. She chose to be with him, her fated mate. Don't you ever listen? You took her away from him. You even went after his daughter."
Not liking the truth I told him earned me another whip.
Jakes POV
"Surely there should be a trail; we found a pool of blood. The fact he lost as much blood as he did would mean he wasn't able to heal, and being as he's technically a gamma, he should have had faster healing than the standard wolf. That tells me he must have encountered either Silver or Wolfsbane. Now, I may not be the sharpest tool in the box, but even I know blood droplets leave a FUCKING TRAIL!" As I roared angrily, the pack trackers stood trembling before me in my office.
"But Alpha, we checked; no blood trail was found. One of the omegas, however, said while she was cleaning the lounge and bathrooms, she smelt blood and went to check. When questioned, she informed us that two male members of the pack were arguing quietly about something and acted shifty. One of the males told her that their friend had been injured in training and had been taken to the hospital. Thinking nothing of it, she cleaned it up."
"Did she at least give you a description of these men?" William asked them, growing incredibly pissed with the situation.
"No sir, she didn't."
"Then may I suggest you go and fucking get one.... TODAY!" Benson snorted as the two men hurried out of my office.
The entire situation left me fuming. This didn't look good on my behalf. Not only had Angel been taken while on my territory, but now Nick. Nick may not be an official member of the Moonlight Pack, but being as my father granted him and Marie sanctuary while he was Alpha meant they still deserved to be treated as such. Benson left briefly before returning with the CCTV disk from the security centre. As we didn't yet know who was involved, I wouldn't take any chances with the wrong person finding out and letting the offenders know we were on to them.
As the disk was about to load, Angel, Marie, and my mother walked in. Angel walked straight over to me, sitting on my lap after giving me a quick kiss. Marie looked like she was struggling to hold it together before suddenly bursting into tears.
"Please don't cry." Angel leapt from my lap and ran straight to Maire's side, who was now sitting on the floor.
Marie was the hardest woman I had ever met, and there she was, a blubbering mess unable to speak. Suddenly, Angel placed her hands on either side of her aunt's head before closing her eyes.
"Babe, what are you...." I was about to ask.
"Shhh..." she whispered. "It's Uncle Nick, I can see him. He's in a bright room, cuffed to a chair. Jason is there; they were arguing, and then he whipped him with a silver whip. He's hurt badly; there's blood everywhere. Another man was standing at the edge of the room. He has dirty blonde hair and is shorter than you guys."
"Wayne!" William growled, storming out of my office and slamming the door shut behind him.
