“He wants to see Lily again,” Piper said, her voice thick with uncertainty. “He apologized for everything, said he wants to be a better father, but... I don’t know if I believe him.”
Gabriel’s jaw clenched, his hand instinctively moving to rest on her lower back. “You can’t trust him, Piper. Not after everything he’s done. Noah’s dangerous, and he hasn’t changed. He’s only telling you what he thinks you want to hear.”
“I know,” Piper whispered, the ache in her chest growing. “But he’s still Lily’s father. A part of me wants to believe that he really does want to be better, for her.”
Gabriel shook his head, his voice firm. “Noah isn’t doing this for Lily. He’s doing this for himself. He wants control — over you, over her. And if you let him back into your life, you’re giving him the chance to hurt you both again.”
Piper bit her lip, the inner conflict tearing her apart. Gabriel had always been the steady voice of reason, the one who saw things clearly when she couldn’t. And deep down, she knew he was right. Noah wasn’t to be trusted. Not after everything. But that small, desperate part of her — the part that wanted Lily to have both of her parents — kept whispering that maybe, just maybe, Noah had changed.
“What if he really has changed?” Piper asked, her voice barely above a whisper. “What if he wants to be better?”

Piper waited until Gabriel disappeared down the hallway before stepping onto the porch and closing the door behind her. She crossed her arms over her chest, her heart racing as she faced Noah.
“What are you doing here, Noah?” Piper asked, trying to keep her voice steady.
“I’m here because I can’t just disappear from Lily’s life,” Noah said, his voice low but urgent. “I know I messed up, Piper. I know I’ve made mistakes, but I’m trying to change. I want to be there for her. I want to be the father she deserves.”

Noah took a step closer, his eyes pleading. “Because I’m not the same man I was before. I’ve cut ties with Moreno. I’m out of that world. All I want now is to be there for Lily.”

Before she could respond, Noah reached into his pocket and pulled out a folded piece of paper. He handed it to her, his hand shaking slightly.

“It’s proof,” Noah said, his voice strained. “It’s a letter from my lawyer, confirming that I’ve cut ties with everyone connected to Moreno. I’ve gone clean, Piper. For real this time.”
Piper stared at the paper, her mind racing as she read the brief letter. It confirmed what Noah had said — he was no longer involved in any illegal activities, and his lawyer had documentation to prove it.
But even with the letter in her hand, Piper couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off. Noah had always been good at telling her what she wanted to hear, at manipulating the truth to serve his own purposes. And the fact that he had brought this letter now, when she was most vulnerable, only made her more suspicious.
She folded the letter and handed it back to him, her voice cold. “This doesn’t change the past, Noah. You’ve put Lily in danger before, and I can’t take that risk again.”
Noah’s face fell, the desperation in his eyes growing. “I know I’ve hurt you. I know I’ve hurt Lily. But I’m trying, Piper. I’m trying to make it right.”
Piper’s heart ached, but she couldn’t let herself give in. “I don’t know if you can.”
Noah’s hands clenched into fists, but he forced himself to stay calm. “Just give me a chance. Let me prove that I’ve changed. Let me see Lily, spend time with her. You don’t have to forgive me, but don’t punish Lily by keeping me away.”
