Tish POV
I carry the last box into the small cottage and drop it onto the floor. It is ten thousand degrees outside, and Raven has too much shit. This is supposed to be a temporary move, but it seems like she brought everything she owns. With everything going on, she felt it would be best to move to the South Pack temporarily. Just until Kaden gets a handle on being Alpha and this business with the new pack is settled.
The box bangs against the floor. Raven looks up from her desk. She and Oliver are pouring over old texts, trying to determine how a pack could have been created without her knowledge or the knowledge of the Elder Council.
"That's the last one," I grumble.
Raven struggles to get up from her seat. Her belly is already growing. I have heard werewolf pregnancies move quickly, but this feels excessive. She notices my eyes on her stomach and clears her throat.
"Thank you for your help," she smiles. " But you better get to the hospital. I know Kai is expecting you."
I pull out my phone and check the time. "Fuck," I mumble under my breath. "I am going to be late."
"I can give you a ride," Leo says from behind me. I jump at the sound of his voice. He moves silently even though he is the size of a barn.
"I can walk," I mutter. For some reason, Kaden has an issue with me being alone with Raven's mates.
"Have it your way," he shrugs as I push my way into the hallway.
Once I am outside, I take off running. I don't want to miss visiting hours. As I am sprinting down the street, a black sports car pulls up beside me.
Kaden rolls down the window and smiles at me. "Get in."
Things are still tense between us, but I am exhausted from moving boxes, so I comply. Kaden speeds in the direction of the hospital.
"Why aren't you driving your Corvet?" He asks.
"It is still at the bar," I respond shortly.
Just the thought of Cedric sends me spiraling into depression. He expected me to take over his bar but I haven't been able to go. I can't be what those people need me to be. Not right now.
"How have you been getting around?" He asks.
"I have been walking," I snap at him. If he had been paying any attention to me at all, he would have known that.
"You should have said something," he frowns.
"You should have noticed," I snap.
"I am sorry if you feel neglected," he hisses at me. "But I kind of have a lot going on. All you do is hang out with Raven and Kai."
"Wow," I respond. "When was the last time you visited your brother?"
Kaden grinds his teeth together and grips the steering wheel. He takes the turn into the hospital parking lot a little too fast, and I slide into the door. Before I have a chance to right myself, he slams on the brakes, and my head hits the dash.
"Damn it, Kaden," I spit at him.
"I'm sorry," he growls. "You can add it to the list of reasons you are mad at me."
I rub the sore spot on my head. ''If you have something to say, fucking say it because your mood swings are exhausting."
"I made one mistake, and you are holding it over my head," he shouts. "Kai got forgiven immediately. You are playing favorites."
"Who says you aren't forgiven?" I raise an eyebrow at him. "Or did you just assume?"
"You've been avoiding me," he growls.
"You know exactly where to find me," I remind him. "Who is avoiding who?"
Kaden is silent. I patiently wait with my hands in my lap for him to respond, but he says nothing. "That is what I thought," I say coldly. "When you are ready to have an adult conversation, you can come find me."
I step out of the car and head into the hospital. The sound of footsteps isn't far behind me. I know it is Kaden, but I refuse to fight in the middle of the hospital. Just before I reach the nurse's station, Kaden grabs my arm and yanks me back. My chest slams into his, and tingles spread all over my body. I stare up into his blue eyes and they instantly darken with lust. Blush spreads over my cheeks, and I giggle.
"I guess we are done fighting," I say smartly.
Tangling his fingers in my hair, he tilts my head back. A gasp of pleasure escapes from my lips. I know everyone is watching us, but if this man doesn't kiss me soon, I might scream. As if he can read my thoughts, Kaden's lips come crashing down onto mine. My lips part, and our tongues meet. They tangle together with a feverish heat that has me moaning. The kiss is hungry and desperate. We spent too long pretending to be angry with each other.
Kaden pulls away from the kiss, and his eyes glitter with excitement. "Come find me after you visit Kai," he begs.
"Where will you be?" I breathe out.
"The cabin," he growls next to my ear.
The sound makes my toes curl. I don't know if I can wait until after I visit Kai, but Kaden is already leaving the hospital. I wipe the lipstick smudges from my lips and turn to the nurse's station. The nurse is trying to hide her grin behind a clipboard but failing.
"Luna," she manages to compose herself. "I believe Alpha Kai is in the common room today."
My heart leaps with excitement. If he is in the common room, he must be more like himself. I rush down the hall. The guards let me in, and I burst through the common room doors.
Kai is sitting at a table coloring. I watch him for a moment in silence. Alpha Kai coloring is not something I thought I would ever see.
He must catch my scent, and his head raises to look at me. But instead of being met with his usual smile, he looks sad. Weaving in and out of the tables, I make my way to him. He looks me up and down before gesturing for me to sit with him.
"You smell like Kaden," he grumbles.
"He brought me here," I respond, preparing for a fight. "Is that a problem?"
"You've never smelled like him when you have come before," he says. "He said you were mad at him."
I groan as guilt washes over me. I accused Kaden of not visiting Kai. "I am not mad at anyone," I remind Kai.
"Then why aren't you sleeping with him?" Kai asks a little too loudly.
"Is that what you would rather I be doing right now?" I laugh.
"He needs you, too," Kai tells me.
"I know," I respond with a frown. I have been neglecting Kaden. So much so that he told Kai about it.
Desperate to change the subject, I look at the paper in front of him. It is remarkable. I scoot the paper away from him and look at it closer.
"Is this me?" I ask.
Kai looks at me, but his eyes are blank. "No," he shakes his head. "That's my mate."
My heart drops. This has only happened a few times. He has forgotten who I am. The doctors assure me his memory will come back faster each time. We just have to be patient and not force it.
"She looks nice," I say, choking on my tears.
"She loves me," he sighs. "And she smells like honey."
I smile at the thought of smelling like honey. "I am so happy you found her," I whisper.
"Me too," Kai says chipperly. "But to tell you the truth, she is too good for me. She deserves better."
"That is not possible, you are amazing. I will be back tomorrow," I tell him.
"Why would you come back?" He cocks his head to the side.
"I made a promise," I tell him. "Plus, I like your company."
