" What do you mean?" I asked.
" Well, first of all, this pack is a huge believer in fated mate, but they loved Juliana because well, she pretended to be nice, so naturally, they would be upset about her not being Luna, but they weren't because you're carrying the heir," He explained, and I nodded. Indeed, Juliana was the popular candidate for the Luna position since everyone thought Rhaegar wouldn't find his mate at age thirty.
" Why do you think Juliana pretends to be nice, even Ella thinks so," I asked. Roman laughed.
" Because she badly wanted the title of Luna for as long as I could remember, and my brother said, he would take one the people decide,"
I bit my lips in thought. It might be true because her vibe was always off. Such a try-hard.
" And she tries so hard to be likable. However, when you always see her as much as we do, you can tell the truth," Zayn added. It was like he read my thoughts, " And lately her behavior is so rude and is the topic of gossip,"
Rhaegar was back, he smiled at me and asked,
" What are you talking about?"
" Juliana," the boys shrugged. Rhaegar sighed and drank his coffee.
" She's not bad. If her behavior is off, it's because she's still hurting that she doesn't get to be Luna,"
I scowled. Why was he defending her conduct? And why was this bothering me? Did I have any right to even be upset?
" You, Kendrick, and my brother are so blinded," Zayn added.
Rhaegar watched me with an intense gaze, wanting to say something but he opted to stay quiet and finish his new coffee.
After having breakfast, Rhaegar had to leave for work, and Zayn had training. I stayed with Roma. We were strolling around the pack when I noticed he was taking me to a place I didn't know. In front of us was a lovely all-white building, and I could see people around.
" Where's this place?" I asked as we entered the gates.
" Chronic Kidney Disease Clinic,"
He guided me to a large green garden with white chairs. A few people and nurses were there. The place was calm, and we sat on two garden white chairs.
" I didn't know Werewolf get such diseases," Our immune system is so strong that we rarely get sick.
" Halfbreeds do. We have those in the pack," Roma explained, and I nodded. Some members were half wolf, half human.
He stared blankly for a while in thought, and I wanted to ask him what we were doing here but didn't.
" I found my mate at my previous basketball competition," he said.
" Congratulations! When am I meeting her?" I beamed. However, the young Prince didn't look too excited.
" Roma, is she ill?" I asked, alarmed. He shook his head, and I let out a breath of relief.
" Her father has kidney failure,"
" I'm sorry to hear that. What's her name?"
" Marilyn Cross,"
Roman came here almost every day to see his mate as she was the one taking care of her father. She is a high school student and works at a nearby diner. As he talked fondly about his mate, I could tell he was falling hard for her.
" You're a stalker," I laughed, " Have you even talked to her?"
" A few times, but I haven't told her about our bond," he smiled,
" Why can't you tell her the truth?"
" No, I can't do that. Finding a mate is something special, and the memory that lives with you forever. I don't want to take that away from her," I nodded, understanding his reason. He suddenly stood up, and I followed his gaze. He was staring at a beautiful girl with long brown hair and blue eyes.
" Is that her?"
" Yes,"
" She's really pretty,"
" Indeed," he smiled. Their eyes locked, and Marilyn quickly avoided contact. She took out a notepad from her bag and started to draw something.
"An artist too," I commented.
We watched his mate for over thirty minutes, and I was bored. I abruptly stood up to go to her, but Roma grabbed my wrist.
" What are you doing?" Roma asked, panicked. I smiled mischievously and walked towards Marilyn. She looked up at me tenderly,
" Hi, I'm Nalya," I extended my hand to her, and she shook it.
"Hello, I'm Marilyn," Her voice was soft. She glanced over to Roman who immediately turned his back. He was apprehensive when it came to her.
" That's my friend, Roman, and I think he would like you to be friends," I said, and she smiled.
" I know Roman. He's a famous basketball player around here," she said gently. I called Roman over, and the two exchanged pleasantries. I made up an excuse to leave so they could talk. I was smiling from ear to ear, feeling like cupid now.
I received a call from Nadia as I walked the premises.
" Hi, baby," she sounded jolly.
" Hi, Nadia," I reciprocated her happiness. We talked for a while. Nadia was excited to show me the new maternity dresses they were launching. So tomorrow, I was going to her company, and maybe we could spend the weekend together.
" Hey!" I turned around to Roma, he was in good spirits after talking to her.
" How was it?"
" She's amazing, soft-spoken, and her smile, is out of this world!" he almost shouted.
" You have me to thank," I said proudly.
" Thank you, Cupid," He gave me a one-shoulder hug and kissed my hair.
" So what's the plan?"
" I don't know. I didn't ask her out or anything," he scowled. " But I can freely talk to her without it being weird,"
" Yes,"
" What's the plan today?"
" I was thinking we go-"
The ringing of my phone cut my sentence, and I picked it up.
" Hello?"
No one spoke on the other end, but I could hear breathing and faint sniffles.
" Hello, who's this?"
With no response, the call ended. Roman was looking worried. I tried to call back, but it failed.
