Rhaegar
The last two days have been challenging for me. My mate has not awakened yet, and I haven't left her side. I only left the hospital to see my son, he had a high temperature but is well now.
Everyone in the pack is concerned about their Luna and has been sending gifts. We had not told them what truly happened.
I was pacing around the hospital hallway. Ella and Doctor Lewis wanted to see me.
" Calm down, Rhaegar," Nadia said. I could hear trepidation in her voice.
" Calm down? How can you ask that of me? It's been 48 hours, Nadia. What if her wolf is weak, and we lose her? I couldn't bear it." I growled, frustrated.
" I know, but we can't think like that. I choose to be -" She stopped talking, noticing Ella and Doctor Lewis's approach.
" Ella, doctor Lewis, is my mate alright?" I asked urgently.
" The Luna has a bacterial infection in the blood," she said. The air left my lungs, and my heart was in pain. Werewolves don't get such diseases so it might be deadly for her.
" We are fighting the infection in her blood, but the poison makes it less effective. We have her on medication, we'll see how it will work out in a few hours," Doctor Lewis explained. He was looking at me like a prey it was a predator. I growled at him, making him take a step back. They were the doctors. It was their job to heal her! My wolf, Rega, was snarling at their incompetence.
" Does that mean my daughter can die from this infection?" Nadia's eyes filled with tears. I looked at Ella, and then at the doctor.
" No alpha. However, her healing process will be delayed," He answered. After talking to the doctors, I went in to see my mate. My eyes were stuck on her beautiful face. Most of her injuries were healing already. I stood by her side, caressing her arms, and the tingles under my fingers made me feel alive.
" The mate bond helps. I'm sure she feels you close," Nadia said, entering the room.
I stayed with my mate the whole day. She didn't move, yet I was watching her. Nate sent over some work through my secretary, and I made myself comfortable on the sofa as I did my duties. I wished Khai was here, but he was too little to be in the hospital.
Later in the evening, I went for a run. I had not shifted since I killed Arlon, and my wolf had been urging me to shift so I did, like me, he was restless and anxious, I avoided people, scared he might lash out, or harm someone. Shifting was good for me. I was still running, lost in my thoughts when I saw a huge dark wolf next to me. It was my brother's. We ran around the forest until I came to a halt, shifting back. He did too, and we wore shorts stuck on trees for situations like this.
" What's up?" I asked.
" Nothing, I needed a run too," he murmured. It wasn't nothing if he joined me for a run, plus, he looked gloomy.
" How are things with you and your mate?" I asked. He exhaled and then frowned.
" Good, but she's not ready to be marked, and my wolf has been whining," he said. I ruffled his hair as I laughed, and he swatted my hand away.
" Looks like your wolf wants to get laid," I smirked, I understood that having a mate, and not mating was pure torture especially when you're always together. He shook his head.
" It's not that. I'm just worried she has doubts about me," he voiced. I sighed and held his shoulder.
" She feels the mate bond, and because of that, she will naturally gravitate towards you. Marilyn looks like a smart girl; I'm sure she wants to truly know if those are her feelings for you, as a human, not a werewolf," I explained. When I met Naly, the more time I spent with her, I realized I truly loved her with or without the mate bond. I wished every day to be with her.
" You think?" he asked.
" Yes," I smiled at him.
We walked back to the packhouse. My brother persuaded me to have dinner with him and his girlfriend. Khai joined us, he seemed in good spirits today. After dinner, I went to the hospital with Khai this time. I noticed another machine was detached from Nalya's arm, and the bandage around her neck was gone. She was getting better. I caressed her hair and kissed her forehead.
" Look, mama is getting better," I told my son. He was squealing in excitement, happy to see his mother even though she was unresponsive and trying to go to her. I held my mate's hand, and slowly she squeezed it. I was ecstatic, her eyelashes slowly fluttered, and the heart monitor was beating a little louder now. I was smiling from ear to ear now.
" Open your eyes," I whispered, patiently, and just like that, those beautiful eyes I've been dying to see opened. She was disoriented for a minute, but when her eyes adjusted to the room, her gaze found us, and a faint smile appeared on her plump lips.
" Hey," she whispered, her voice was raspy, and tears quickly formed in her eyes.
