Methis Delis POV

I yawned rather loudly as I woke up. The rays of sunlight from my window penetrated my closed eyelids so much that all I could see was an orange hue, similar to eigengrau."

Brrssh..ching...Kling! I heard glass shatter from downstairs. The shock from the sound made me fully conscious almost instantly. "What was that?" I thought. I then hurriedly got off the bed and headed downstairs. As I got out of the room, I heard the voice of my dad shouting at Katherine. I slowed down and decided to eavesdrop. "Was he having a fight with Katherine?" I thought. Though a bit distant, I could hear them rather clearly.

"Did you really think that would make me happy? huh?!" dad yelled.

"I swear, baby, I had no choice. I couldn't bear to see you that way any longer," Katherine said in a teary voice, "I had to do something, anything. I'm so sorry baby," she apologized desperately.

"There's no way I'm gonna let this slide," he said, "she's just eighteen. Eighteen godammit! and you made her a surrogate mother?" he asked.

"I'm sorry baby. I didn't plan it to be this way," she sobbed.

"Well fuck you and your plans!" dad yelled, "I'm gonna take legal action for this. I mean, come on! She's just eighteen. Don't you have a conscience?" he asked. "You know what, fuck all this, I'm done with you," he said with his footsteps fading as the door slammed shut. I came out of hiding and walked downstairs.

"Morning, Kath," I greeted in a mock tune as I walked towards the fridge.

"You! Look what the hell you've done!" she yelled at me.

"Geez, looks like someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning," I said as I opened the fridge and took out a can of soda.

The soda fizzed open as I cracked the lid. I took a couple of gulps and sighed.

"You think you're really important, don't you?" she asked.

"I didn't say that," I responded with a shrug.

"Well you ain't shit, you hear me? You ain't shit!" she yelled at me.

"Your problem," I replied nonchalantly as I headed upstairs to take a bath and get ready for school. I could literally smell her burning with rage and it was really satisfying.

After a few more days of arguing and fighting, dad decided to get a divorce. She tried to persuade him, but that was clearly a futile effort at this point. And so we got rid of Katherine, and things started to fall into place. I could finally spend time with my dad the way I wanted and even get back to school. Things were really looking up for us and slowly but decisively, I began to forget the one-year ordeal I had gone through.

Jamal's POV~

I rolled back and forth on the bed, sweating profusely. I was in a nightmare, a terrible one..........

It started off gentle unlike any other nightmare I had had. However, from the moment I walked into it I knew I was in for a ride of horror.

I stood in the middle of the road looking up into the sky as it played tricks of white and dark clouds with my eyes. In the middle of the street opposite me stood the Dark Witch in her traditional all black attire. She was glaring at me with an anger I had seen before. Never when we dated, but forever ever since I was betrayed and I waged war against her.

“Welcome.” I tilted my head as I spoke. “Long time it has been, hasn’t it?”

“I’m back,” she said. “Back for you.”

I stepped forward to show my boldness. “Is that so?”

“What have you been up to?” the Dark Witch stepped forward too.

“Making love to a human, getting married, and all without my wife dying.” I stepped forward, almost smiling as I spoke. The Dark Witch was trying her best to keep her composure.

She took another step forward and the gap that was once there between us was now almost gone. “You think you are safe?”

“I know that I am safe.” My smiling face faded in a blip and I glared at her. “You are weak. As weak as a feeble dried leaf in summer. So don’t overstep your boundaries. I have brought you down once. I’ll fucking do it again if I have to.”

“Disloyal wolves lie amongst you, Jamal.”

“That’s KING Jamal to you, Witch.” She was trying her very best to plant discord.

"You think you're safe now, don't you? You can never escape me!" the Dark Witch yelled at me. The skies went dark with lightning and it was unbelievably windy. So windy that we both were pushed back and the gap between us materialized again.

"I already did. Your curse holds no weight anymore," I said calmly, shouting so that she could hear me through the wind.

"I see you're relaxed now that you've gotten kids," she said with a smirk on her face, "now watch your kingdom be ripped to shreds," she yelled in a warped monstrous voice as she morphed into a huge demonic looking figure and began to swallow the whole land. She grew to such an enormous size that her inhaling caused tornadoes that pulled in members of my clan into her throat! I held on firmly to a tree trunk. The wind was unbearable and it began to drizzle with lightning flashing at sporadic intervals through the dark skies. Just then, I saw the twins being pulled into her gaping mouth filled with homodont sharp teeth...

" NOOO." I screamed.

FOUR YEARS LATER

Methis Delis POV~

The alarm clock rang, interrupting my sleep. "Urrghh! Be quiet. Dammit," I groaned as I covered my head with a pillow. Triiing! it kept on ringing. The vibration was more than enough to drive any same person nuts. Finally, I mustered the strength to turn the damn thing off. The rays of the morning sun had illuminated my room so much that I couldn't get back to sleep. "Damn this stupid alarm clock," I cussed as I sat up, my hair super messy and my lips pouting sulkily. I picked up my phone and a notification popped up on my phone. It was a text sent by my best friend, Sophia. A smile slowly etched its way up on my face as I texted, as was a usual, literally subconscious, reflex of mine.

Hey girl. Have you checked the mail this morning?

Nah, I just woke up. Any news?

Okay, you won't believe this. I just checked my mail and guess what?

I can't guess. Just tell me.

Wait for it...I've been accepted into Harvard!

Shut up!

I'm for real. Hold up, let me send a pic.

After a minute, she sent a photo. I opened it and read the letter she had snapped. It was no joke. She really was accepted. I quickly pinged on my screen to share my support.

I'm so happy for you, girl

Thanks baby. Have you checked yours?

Nah, let me hurry downstairs and check it out.

I replied before getting off the bed. I put on my fluffy rabbit-faced slippers and headed downstairs. Dad was watching the morning news.

"Morning Dad," I greeted as I got downstairs.

He quickly glanced at me. "Oh good morning, baby," he greeted back, "you're up earlier than usual," he added.

"Yeah," I said as I walked over to the fridge and grabbed myself a carton of milk. I filled my glass and gulped it down and headed out to the front yard to check the mailbox. I took everything I could find from it and took them inside. I searched through them trying to check if I would be as lucky as Sophia was.

"You're looking for something?" dad asked, probably only realizing it since the sound of paper being flipped and tossed around interrupted what was being said on the news.

"Yeah, dad. I think it should look something like......" I muttered as my eyes scanned through all the mail.

"What are you looking for?" he asked, now paying attention as the news was over.

"Found it!" I exclaimed as I took out the envelope from the paper chaos I had created on the floor. I ripped the envelope open and got the paper out. I muttered for a while as I read what was written on it. I muttered silently to myself "…have hereby been accepted into our esteemed institution!" my muttering climaxed into a crescendo, as my eyes widened in excitement. "I did it dad! I got into Harvard!" I exclaimed as I ran to give him a hug.

"I'm so proud of you baby girl," he said as he patted me on the head. Then he broke the hug off, with his hands on my shoulders, "you know what? This calls for a celebration," he said.

"Grilled beef and wine?" I asked.

"My thoughts exactly," he replied.

" Yay!" I rejoiced. This was a dream come true and it was truly worth the celebration.
