Methis Delis POV
I was running, as fast as my legs could carry me. But I could feel it getting closer.
I could feel HER getting closer.
I find myself lost in a labyrinth of shadows, trapped in the clutches of my own fears. The Black Witch, a spectral figure shrouded in darkness, pursues me relentlessly. With each step I take, she draws closer, her malevolent laughter echoing through the air.
I fell to my knees, wincing in pain, whispering and trembling
"No... Please, no!"
Suddenly, I jerked awake, covered in a cold sweat. My heart pounds against my chest like drums reverberating through the night. It took a moment for me to realize that I was back in the safety of my own room.
I took deep breaths, trying to calm myself. But as I regained my senses, I felt a sharp pain in my abdomen. Fear gripped me once again, but this time, it's a different kind of fear. The fear of the unknown.
I tried to ignore it, tried to lie back down and hope sleep would come, but another sharp jab, sending shivers of agony down my spine told me that wouldn't be possible. I grimaced, calling out
"Jamal! Jamal, where are you?!"
My own voice sounded foreign to me like it belonged to another person.
My voice echoed through the empty room, pleading for his presence. I needed him more than ever in this moment of uncertainty. But there was no immediate response, and my panic intensified.
I felt the strength draining from me as I struggled to stay focused and conscious. The pain was back again, this time more intense and more punishing than before, followed by a wave of nausea as I doubled over by the bedside and threw up the contents of my stomach on the floor, my body drenched in sweat.
"Not now" I muttered to myself, "Please not now."
Just as despair threatened to take hold of me, the door burst open, revealing Jamal - running towards me like he was my pillar of strength and unwavering support. His eyes are filled with worry, reflecting that after all, in his own twisted way, he DID still care for me.
Just outside behind him I could see something weird, a red glow in the night.
Was that... the moon? Why the fuck was it so red?
Another contraction shot up me, tearing my mind away from what color the damn moon was. I realized I didn't care, I just wanted the pain to stop.
"Methis!" Jamal yelled, hurrying to my side, "Methis! I'm here. What's wrong?"
I couldn't speak, just managed to groan out a few words, my sight nearly blinded by pain as I struggled to remain awake. Luckily, he got the message well enough
As Jamal reached me, I clutched his hand tightly, seeking solace and finding comfort in his touch. He becomes my anchor, grounding me amidst the storm that rages within.
I looked up at him, struggling to speak, teary eyes, "It hurts, Jamal. The pain... it's different, but I don't know what it means."
I couldn't tell if he was giddy with excitement or just plain scared to death, because his reaction didn't make sense.
He started laughing, happily, like he had just heard the best news ever, it wasn't till he spoke again that I understood why he was so happy.
"It's time Methis!" He said, helping me up, his hands firm but gentle, "It's time! It's almost over."
At this point, I was so dark gone all I could do was croak, it didn't feel real that it was truly over, it felt more like someone was playing a cruel trick on me.
"Make it stop." I groaned, leaning heavily against him, trying to bite back tears as another contraction overtook me, making me shudder in pain.
I wanted it to be over, I wanted it gone, I wanted to be free of the bloody thing.
Jamal's gaze softened, filled with understanding and reassurance. He placed a gentle hand on my cheek.
"Stay strong, Methis" He said, his voice calm and soothing, feeling like a gentle balm on my wrecked body, "We'll face this together, Methis. We'll find answers and overcome whatever comes our way. Trust in me"
I didn't know how to trust him, not after everything I had been through, especially not him, but I was so focused on trying to stay alive that I didn't care, I just nodded. His words penetrated the depths of my soul, giving me strength when I needed it the most.
And at this point, that was enough for me.
* * *
As soon as we got to the hospital, I felt a sudden surge of pain in my lower abdomen, as if something was trying to rip its way out of me. I gasped and clutched my swollen belly, feeling the movements of the two lives inside me.
“Methis, are you okay?” I heard Jamal's voice, full of concern and panic.
"We are almost there!" He was by my side in an instant, holding me in his arms. He looked at me with his golden eyes, which were glowing in the dark. He was a werewolf, the alpha of his clan, and he was the father of my children.
“I think…I think it’s time…” I managed to say, biting my lip. The pain was getting worse, and I felt a warm liquid trickle down my legs. “We need to go to the hospital…”
He nodded and lifted me up, carrying me to his car. He drove as fast as he could, ignoring the traffic lights and the horns of other drivers. He was frantic, but also excited. He had been waiting for this moment for months, ever since he found out that I was pregnant with his heir.
I couldn't wait to get this over with, as I hobbled through the corridor, the nurses fussing over me, leaning on him for strength and support my mind, in its confusion, wandered back to when I first met him, just after I had signed the contract. I didn’t know much about werewolves then, but I soon learned that they were real, and that they lived among humans in secret. He was gentle and caring, but also fierce and protective. He treated me like a queen, and he was proud to show me off to his clan. He said I was his miracle, because human-werewolf hybrids were very rare and often sterile. But somehow, we had defied the odds and conceived twins.
We arrived at the room, and he carried me to the emergency room. He shouted for help, and a team of doctors and nurses rushed to us. They took me to a delivery room, while he followed behind. He refused to leave my side, even when they told him that it might be dangerous.
He held my hand as I pushed with all my strength, trying to bring our babies into the world. He encouraged me with his words, telling me how much he loved me and how proud he was of me. He kissed my forehead and wiped the sweat from my brow.
I screamed as I felt something tear inside me, and then a wave of relief washed over me. I heard a cry, followed by another one. The doctors announced that we had a boy and a girl, both healthy and strong.
They handed them to us, wrapped in blankets. I looked at them with awe and wonder, feeling a surge of love for them. They were beautiful, with tufts of black hair and rosy cheeks.
But they also had something else.
They had wolf ears.
I gasped and stared at them in shock. They looked at me with curious eyes, which were the same golden color as their father’s.
“What…what are they?” I asked, feeling a mix of fear and confusion.
“They’re our children,” the male lead said, smiling widely. “They’re perfect.”
He didn’t seem surprised or bothered by their ears. He seemed overjoyed and proud.
He picked up the wolf babies and thanked me for giving him such a wonderful gift. He kissed them gently on their heads and whispered words of love to them.
He looked at me with so much happiness that I felt my heart melt.
I smiled weakly and reached out to touch them.
They were our children.
And we loved them.
The birth of the twins will be greeted with cheers throughout the entire werewolf clan, seen as an auspicious sign.
As I felt consciousness slip away from me, I heard some whispering around...
"The moon-"
"Did you see it?"
"Red? How-"
They sounded pretty agitated, excited even, something big was happening outside, but I didn’t know that yet.
I only knew that I was exhausted.
And then everything went black and I sank into the darkness, grateful that at the very least, the pain was over.
