MethisPOV
I couldn't help thinking about Jamal, even when he was gone. I had never met him in person, before I signed the contract, which made my initial impression of him even more pronounced He was handsome, I had to admit, with bronze skin, piercing eyes, and a strong jaw. But he also looked cold and ruthless, like someone who would stop at nothing to get what he wanted. And what he wanted was me, or rather, my womb.
And yet I couldn't help but feel intrigued by him. I was drawn to him, very strongly.
I wondered if he had a mate, or if he ever loved anyone. Did he have any friends or family? Did he have any hobbies, or interests? Did he ever smile, or laugh? Did he ever feel anything at all?
I shook my head, trying to banish these thoughts from my mind. It didn’t matter who he was, or what he felt. He was the Alpha, and I was his surrogate. That was all there was to it.
I heard a knock on the door, and looked up to see Beta enter.
He smiled at me as he walked in, holding a bouquet of flowers in his hand.
“Hello, Methis,” he said. “How are you feeling today?”
“I’m fine,” I lied. “Just bored.”
“I’m sorry about that,” he said sympathetically. “I brought you something to cheer you up.”
He handed me the flowers, which were bright and colorful.
“They’re beautiful,” I said sincerely. “Thank you.”
“You’re welcome,” he said. “They’re from the Alpha’s garden. He has a lot of exotic plants there.”
“Really?” I asked curiously. “Does he like gardening?”
Beta hesitated for a moment, then shook his head.
“No,” he said. “He doesn’t like anything.”
"Does he like... "
He raised his hand suddenly, cutting me off, "Methis, listen." He paused a little bit, as though gathering himself, "Jamal is a complicated man, to say the least. I think it would be better if you tried not to probe too deeply, okay? Just don't ask too many questions don't think about it too much, just focus on fulfilling your contract, okay?"
I swallowed hard. It was the same reaction he had earlier, when he found me with the kids. I had to rectify that immediately. "About earlier today," I started, swallowing hard, "With the kids."
"What about them?" He asked, sounding a bit irritated.
Okay, this was starting to take a nasty turn.
I knew I shouldn’t have asked, but I couldn’t help it. I was curious about him, the man who had taken me from my world and made me his. The man who rarely spoke to me, but whose touch ignited a fire in me. The man who was the alpha of the wolves, and who had a secret that no one knew. And then, being children, knew no better. They had gone off, telling me as much as they knew innocently, not knowing it was going to put them in trouble.
“Please don’t blame them, Beta. It was my fault. I wanted to know more about him.” I said, looking at the young wolves who had been scolded by Beta for telling me stories about the alpha. They had said he was brave, strong, ruthless, and mysterious. They had said he had a scar on his chest that he never showed anyone. They had said he had a past that haunted him.
Beta smiled gently and shook his head. He was the alpha’s right-hand man, and the only one who treated me kindly. He was like an older brother to me, and I trusted him.
“Methis, you don’t need to know more about him. It won’t do you any good. He is not someone you can understand or love. He is not someone who can love you back.” He said softly, his eyes full of pity.
I felt a pang in my heart, but I nodded. I knew he was right. I was just a tool to the alpha, a way to satisfy his needs and produce his heirs. I had no illusions about our relationship, and I knew my place.
He handed me a file and said, “This is for you. It’s information about your loved ones in the human world. I hope it will make you happy.”
I took the file with trembling hands and opened it. Inside were photos of my father, my stepmother, and my friends. I felt tears well up in my eyes as I saw their faces. They looked happy and healthy.
I looked at Beta with gratitude and asked, “How did you get this?”
He shrugged and said, “I have my ways. Don’t worry, they are safe and well. Your stepmother didn’t lie to you. She used the money we gave her to treat your father’s illness. He has recovered now.”
I felt a surge of relief and joy. My father was alive and well. He was the only family I had left after my mother died when I was young. He was a university professor, strict with me but also very loving. He had remarried after my mother’s death, but he never had more children. He loved me very much.
I hugged the file to my chest and said, “Thank you, Beta. Thank you so much.”
He smiled and hugged me back. He said, “You’re welcome, Methis. You deserve some happiness in this life.”
I felt warm inside as if someone had lit a candle in my dark world.
But then I felt something else, something wrong. I felt nauseous and started vomiting.
"Oh God, not now please." I murmured under my breath. I didn't want to fall sick now, not here.
Beta noticed something was wrong. "Methis?" He asked, looking at me, "Are you okay?".
I responded by throwing up at his feet again.
Beta took me to the medical ward, with I barely understood what was happening, still very delirious. He called for the doctor and asked him to check on me.
The doctor examined me, quickly clinically. As I lay on the soft bed, feeling awkward but better, he walked up to me, a smile on his face and said, “Congratulations, Methis. You’re pregnant.”
