I had been playing with the petals since Leo departed hours ago for a council meeting.
I looked at the “wedding” pictures we had last week. Leo was holding me close and we looked like a real couple. But we weren’t.
We weren’t and would never be.
I sat on the couch and watched some random shows. Today was Smile’s airing and there were a lot of commercials with Seth and Leo together.
I didn’t even know what he meant by saying, “Figure it yourself.” I could only recall the intensity of his kisses and tongue movements battling mine in the infirmary. Every touch he made…
Every movement sent shivers of pleasure.
My thoughts were cut short as I went to the main door. I was slowly being careful not to strain my foot and looked at the hole. It was the nurse from school—the same woman who introduces herself as Leo’s fiancé.
I opened the door and she was smirking at me.
“Uh… Can I help you?” She placed her hands on her waist.
“My name is Jane von Klein. I believe you know my family, Selene Carmen.”
“The von Klein? Ah… The third highest family of the Magistrate of the Vampiric Council. What is a person such as yourself doing in here?” She raised an eyebrow at me.
“One month, Miss Carmen. You have a month remaining.”
“One month?” A crease formed on my brows. “What do you mean?”
“You have been fooled by your own master if you think he left today for another one of those… meetings. You are so wrong, feeder.”
“Miss von Klein, would you please get straight to the point?” I linked my arms, leaning on the door.
“Leo Heathly… has agreed to marry me in a month's time like what he promised his mother and me before he even met you. It was a condition so he could freely do whatever he wanted in the human world.”
“W-what? That can't be right.”
“I’ll leave it to your imagination. I just thought you might want to know of the trump card I was talking about before. So be ready to lose your memories and get replaced. See you around, Miss Carmen.” Jane’s eyes lightened into a dark red colour with glitters glistening like a gem—the colour of a royal. She left, swaying her hips obviously as she walked away. “Oh, and I hope for your recovery.”
I locked the door, falling to my knees, breathing heavily.
That was right.
I knew from the beginning that Leo was engaged to another vampire while I was in my private studies. I was always prepared to lose my memories but… after actually meeting him… my heart started beating differently. It was screaming that I love him.
I was prepared years ago… since I had nothing to lose.
No family…
No friends…
But only Leo…
But I would forget him in… one month?
So what were the kisses for? What were his actions for? Was Leo playing me before I forget about him?
