LEO
I opened my eyes and the first thing I saw was my wife being strangled by a woman with black wings. Selene was not herself and her hands were on her belly... As if trying to protect our baby.
I tried standing up but was surprised to see James turned ice unable to move.
I silently stood up grabbing a sword at the side.
Jane was too focused on Selene that I believe she didn’t notice me almost behind her. Her wings weren’t flapping nor moving so this is my only chance to save my precious wife and baby.
I raised my hands and struck Jane behind making sure it pierced her front side. She screams and throws my wife towards the wall that I had to jump and catch her to make sure she’s not going to get hurt.
Her body suddenly had cracking sounds from the spot I hit. She suddenly knelt down. “I’ve used up too many powers again...” She muttered but loud enough to be heard. I hugged my wife as Jane tried reaching for us. Black blood oozed from her and it wasn’t a really good view.
She extends her arms before her and bites it. “I tried... I tried stopping the demon that’s about to be born and yet... I failed...” Tears swell from within her eyes.
“Leo...” she called. “Let me warn you about this... Your child must not be born or else...” Suddenly a sword fell from the sky, piercing her neck and cutting her vocals.
“Jane!” I laid my wife properly before running to her. “Jane!” I shook her, removing the heavy blade from her. “Hey, Jane... Who owns this sword? Stay with us... Tell me why you did all these things...” I continued tapping her and she reached for my hand.
“Listen... Tell everyone I’m sorry. He will come for her... He will kill your...” And her hand falls as her eyes lose its shine.
“Jane... Jane...” But it was too late.
Jane was definitely gone.
What did she mean with all of these?
Why did she have to kill so many vampires?
Who threw the sword?
There are just so many things unanswered. Now I’m not sure who is the enemy!
“Ugh...” I turned and saw my wife flinching. I ran towards her and she slowly opened her eyes. Her cheeks were a bit bruised but she was still the most beautiful being in this land.
“Selene...” I called out, making her head rest on my arm.
“Hey, baby... It’s Leo...”
***
SELENE
It was dark… very dark that I don’t even know if I was still alive. I mean dead.
Why is Jane causing everyone pain? What does she want from me and my family? What did my father do to her? What is the reason behind all these things? But one thing running harder in my mind is I am tired... I want to just sleep and forget everything.
“Selene!” A voice echoed, making me flinch. Who was it?
His hands felt familiar and soothing. It was like he was emitting light inside me.
“Selene...” A sweet male voice called out. “Hey, baby... It’s Leo...” I fully opened my eyes and my husband was looking at me with mixed emotions. Worry.
Happiness.
Pain.
But filled with love.
“Leo...” He hugs me tightly and as a vampire, it’s hard to say if it was warm but I feel loved.
“How are you feeling babe?” He kisses my forehead aiding me to sit up. I touched my belly and the baby was still there. Thank goodness!
“I’m fine now that you and the baby are safe... what about the others?” I looked at my surroundings and saw the frozen James returning back to flesh.
“Jane is gone, Selene...”
“What?” My eyes dilated. “Who—? Did you finish her off, Leo?”
“I thought I gave the final blow but she was still strong then... So I tried questioning her especially with the black blood from her and when she was at the brink of saying it, a sword fell from the sky and I couldn’t sense a thing. Then she died saying the baby should not be born and he is coming for her.”
“He?”
He shook his head. “I don’t know either. She turned to ashes then...” Leo wrapped his arms around me again and I buried my face in his neck and massaged my tummy. I won’t let anyone hurt my baby, my husband or the vampire race.
But...
Who is it that threw the sword to Jane?
Leo says it came from the sky.
So from a god? Impossible.
“Lady Selene!” I turned around and saw Sir Whei and the other soldiers arriving. “Are you alright, Your Highness?” They kneeled as respect.
“Yes, please stand up... I should be the one asking that to you guys... Are you all alright? Did we lose anyone?”
They looked at each other and smiled a little. “No, my queen. We had some casualties but not life-threatening and we survived the fight.”
A prick disappeared in my heart hearing the good news. I walked towards the balcony and saw the warriors looking upon us. I pulled out Dark Blade and raised it as a sign of victory and they all cheered.
I’m happy to return but the humans would surely question each other why an old castle would crumble. Worst case scenario would be a vampire’s discovery. We did great to hide our identities but I feel like it won’t be enough and soon...
Something bad will happen...
“Selene!”
I saw Thana amongst the crowd and she didn’t have a smile drawn on her pretty face.
I turned to Leo and he gave me the sign to go so we rushed downstairs with the others behind us leaving Jane’s last pieces of cloth.
“You have a lot of storytelling to do, Your Highness.” I laughed seeing James smirked. He didn’t know when the battle ended, not having any idea how it ended.
“No worries.”
We reached the ground floor and Thana gave me a tight hug. She suddenly covers my ears and looks straight in my eyes. She has a very serious face with her.
“Thana?”
Suddenly the surroundings went a little blurry except for Thana and me. It feels like a time warp.
“What’s going on?”
“Selene... we only got two minutes to do a linked conversation so I’ll go straight to the point.”
“Huh?”
“You need to make a choice now... about your baby...”
“What?”
“Just listen to me, sister...” She breathes out. “We need to change the course of her fate. And by her, I mean your child’s future. A great danger will arise and even if you’ll hate me for this... I will help you save your child.”
“Thana, calm down... I can’t understand you...”
“A strong vampire is coming to hunt our lineage and possibly end it in the future centuries. Jane sent me the last telepathic dream and I saw the scary sight. Jane isn’t the real enemy here but somebody else... Someone of the unknown... If your child is born, it will be the end of the whole vampire race which she was trying to stop.”
My eyes widened with her words.
“What do you mean—?”
“We only got two choices, Selene: let your baby live and allow all vampires to die or change your baby and the vampire’s future so both clans would live. And since it’s you, I know you would rather change her future to keep everyone alive.”
“Of course I would... But who is this "he" who is after my baby? What does he want?”
“I don’t know, Selene, but I know I can help you. But I believe Leo would be against it.”
“Leo wouldn’t... I know he’ll understand it more than anyone.” I smiled.
“Will he still accept it when it’s your life as payment?”
My body froze and the blurry atmosphere around us ended. Thana removed her hands and smiled at me bitterly. “There’s no other way, sis. You’ll have to make up your mind tonight... Please consider not only your family but the whole kingdom.” She turned away from me and I was still stunned.
“You okay, babe?” I felt Leo’s arms snaking around my womb.
“My wife? New endearment?” I smiled as the other vampires helped the wounded.
“I still want to call you baby but because we’re having our own baby in a few week’s time, I'm thinking of the best endearment.” He kisses my cheek and even if I’m a cold-blooded creature, I know I blushed. “You know what I’m thinking right now?” I turned and smiled at him.
“What?”
“I really love you.” He gives a peck to my lips making my smile wider.
I buried my face again on his neck and secretly sniffed on him. Gosh, I love his scent!
And he is all mine.
“I love you too, my husband,” I sarcastically replied.
“You don’t have to sniff me, mommy. We still have the honeymoon to do.” My cheeks heated up when I saw the grinning face. I poke his side and he just remains standing hugging me tightly. That bit is unfair since we’re already vampires. And speaking of the honeymoon? Well, we could’ve done it before if all this catastrophe didn’t happen in the first place.
If we knew who we were actually going after or who was trying to haunt us then we could have been the happiest.
But right now, a new dilemma is ahead of me... I know Thana is helping me but it sounds like I don’t have hope anymore. I am the queen now but my affiliates will have to manage everything to protect each other and make sure Leo will be with my daughter.
The decision of all vampires to see the future. I may have to leave early.
I’m sorry, Leo.
