SELENE
I close my eyes feeling my skin torn as I push my princess out. I arch my back as my insides felt ripped painfully.
“Push harder, Your Highness!” Dr. Liz exclaimed as I gripped on Leo’s hand tighter.
“Aaaahhhh!”
God… why was giving birth this hard?!
“You can do it, Selene!” Leo cheered but I wasn’t in the position to be glad he was cheering because it is so painful!
Darn it! I’ve been trying to push as hard as I can for Pete’s sake! It’s already been an hour since I’ve been in this situation! I thought carrying my child for a couple of months and eating a lot of weird foods was enough but I was wrong! The date itself is torture to the insides!
And with the last ounces of my strength...
Finally...
I heard a small cry. I continued panting hard as Leo kissed my forehead.
“Good job, Selene. You did well.”
“Here you go, dear parents.” Dr. Liz handed Leo the baby and I was very happy with the view— Leo was carrying our princess.
“Want to carry her, Selene?” He calls out handing the baby to my arms. “She looks a lot like you.” Leo sweeps some of my hair off my face.
I slid my finger on her plump cheeks and it was very smooth and chubby.
“My baby...” Tears fell from my eyes. How happy I am!!
But this happiness won’t last because I will need to leave after a week to save my baby’s future and everyone else.
Leo took the baby probably seeing how exhausted I am. “Sweet dreams,my love. I’ll take care of our baby while we regain our strength.” I nodded and closed my eyes.
“Mommy! Mommy!” A sweet little voice calls out filled with love carried by the vampire I’m spending forever with.
My precious little family and I in the flower garden... Happy and satisfied with what we have. “Yes, baby?” I replied.
“Why? Why did you leave?!”
“We hate you.”
“What? Why would you two hate me?”
Blood suddenly oozed from all directions as the flowers and petals dyed and dried out mixing with the blood. I turned to my child and husband and there was blood falling on their faces while their lips were both grinning.
I flinched and sat up seeing another horrible nightmare. I was back in my bedroom and the baby cradle was near me with my angel sleeping soundly. But where is he?
“What do you mean she agreed to do it?” It was Leo who shouted from outside the room.
“She didn’t have any option, to begin with Leo!” This time it was Thana who replied. “And it’s not just the vampire clan we were trying to save but also the humans! Just be open-minded, Leo!”
Uh-oh... Don’t tell me Thana told him?!
“But you two decided without my approval! I am her husband!”
“Yes, you are! But we know you won’t even accept it because she will carry a heavier burden. And it’s only her who is capable of doing it!”
It reminded me of what Thana and I discussed. It was a couple of months ago when the fight between Jane ended. We were able to regain the kingdom although it was hard. I was able to move all the vampire clans into a secluded area and we have started building a wall to separate the humans and vampires even before the news we are anticipating arises which will happen soon.
Thana taught me the spell to change the distant future.
It was a simple spell with candles and a magic circle surrounding me and light expanded throughout the room we used.
“Though my child has not yet been born... Please save everyone.
Make sure no one, both vampire and humans live peacefully...
And even if they need to co-exist... I beg all the stars and planets to govern our little planet...
Filled with hope and dreams.
Filled with happiness and sadness...
Filled with the belief of a new tomorrow...
I will not let harm touch them even the speck of the air their breaths.
Let thy trouble move away thy lives...
And whoever is behind all these misfortunes...
I wish that all my remaining powers would be moved to my daughter for I believe she will be the last hope and the only one to save not only one clan but all the rest.
I will not let the enemy succeed but I shall rest for a long period until the time comes that I hear the angels pray for assistance.
I, Selene Vlad Ambrogio-Heathly, by my purest thirds-of-blood, command thy stars to move according to my wishes and govern all lives.
Until the day I meet the person who thinks he has triumphed over us.”
I am lucky that I was given the opportunity to live another day and see my baby, my husband, my sister, and my people happy after such a dangerous incident...
I thought happiness was to be broken and peace was to be shattered by the unknown elements trying to haunt not only my family but the world universe.
It was good that no human got involved in the situation but I know that it won’t last long until someone discovers the co-existence of vampires and Thana, who will rule with my husband will make sure he will do everything to protect our child.
It is true that vampires have longer death spans but this is the only way to protect everyone...
Sacrificing myself.
And I was right.
Leo would be against it.
But I’m sorry I have already done it and not even Dark Blade was able to stop me as only me and Thana knew what would happen.
I will never regret this decision.
Right?
The doors opened and Leo entered with a painful look on me. “Why?” He started. “Why did you decide without me?”
“Leo... it’s not like that.... Please... Understand...”
“I was trying to!” His voice loudened and I saw my baby flinching in surprise. “But it’s hard, you know! We just got our first child and started a family then all of a sudden I’ll be told that you plan to die?! How would you feel if you were in my position huh?!”
Tears swell up in the side of my eyes as I stood up feeling my insides were already fine. I am a vampire... Duh...
“Listen, Leo... I had to do it! I’d rather risk my life than our child!”
“But it’s not going to be the same without you! I love you so much that you are the only reason I even try to continue living! You are a big part of me I can’t lose for crying out loud"
“Leo... As a lover and your wife... You are the best thing that ever happened to me. But as a parent... I would rather sacrifice myself than see our daughter’s future torn by some evil entity we don’t know.” I held his hand tightly. “I won’t die... I’ll just be in a deep sleep and one day in the very future... I will be awoken by the purest spirit to protect what has been broken and distorted.”
“I can’t live without you, Selene.” He hugged me tightly.
“But you’ll have, too... Not just for me but for yourself and our child... You have to protect her until she grows up and I promise you we will meet again... My name says it all right? I’ll be with the stars watching you and our princess Selene Adrasteia. I am the moon who will shine in the heavens and you’ll always be my Ambrogio. So, please... Smile for me, my love...”
He distances himself a little, still with the painful expression and smiles bitterly.
“I love you, Selene.”
“I love you, Leo...” I pulled his collar and kissed his lips.
He was surprised at first but ended up replying to the kiss with the same loving intensity not minding that our baby was awake and watching.
