Ella stood in front of the coffee shop, thinking about the divorce. The coffee spilled out, she came out of her dream, quickly turned off the coffee machine, and then used a tissue to clean up the place where the coffee had just spilled.
After finishing her coffee, she threw the empty cup in the trash, then headed for the elevator. Ella was about to press the red arrow button in the upward direction when another hand appeared. Big, strong, steady hands. Even without looking up, she knew who the owner of that hand was.
After what happened at the secret house, she is very shy about having to deal with David.
"You don't come in?"
Ella, startled by David's words, rushed in before the elevator doors closed. She reached out her hand and pressed the number of floors she wanted to go up, once again, the hand of the man next to her reached out, whether by coincidence or on purpose. Two fingers touch each other. She withdrew her hand, turning her back to David. She feels like she's new to him, shy.
His handsome face is imprinted on the elevator glass. Ella studied that face. Now, she finds him tender, warm like the shining sun.
'Why is it taking so long? Why is the elevator still not opening? Could it be...' Ella turned her head to look at David, waiting for an answer from him to answer the question in her mind.
"Looks like the elevator is broken."
Of course, she guessed right. David's words were as light as the wind, but she sounded like waves.
'I got stuck in the elevator. Am I not allowed to go out?' Ella thought fearfully. She tugged on David's shirt, her voice beginning to sniffle. "What are we supposed to do? I don't want to be in here, think quickly." She banged on the door, screaming. "Help us, someone is stuck in the elevator, come and save us..."
"It's no use, no matter how loudly you shout or bang on the door, no one will listen," David said calmly.
Ella took out her phone, damn it, she cursed under her breath, there was no signal in there.
Ella turned to David, clinging to a small hope. "There's no other way?" Please don't shake your head. She thought.
David thought for a moment, then spoke. "There's another way."
Ella rejoiced, taking his hand. "What way?"
"Waiting for someone to come to the rescue."
Ella dropped her arms, sullen. "How do they know we're here to save us?"
"They know the elevator is broken and they have to fix it, then we will be saved." David's voice was calm.
Ella was almost truly disappointed. "Why do I feel hopeless, if they don't know or they don't take this elevator?"
"This is the main elevator of the company, most of the employees take this elevator. Don't worry, we'll be out soon." David put his hand on her shoulder, reassuring her.
Ella sat down on the cold wet step. David also sat down. She glanced at him, his face expressionless. There is a fire in her heart, but he can still be calm.
As if reading her mind, he spoke softly. "Don't worry too much, we'll be out soon. This is the first time the company has encountered this problem since its establishment, so they will quickly resolve it."
Heard David says that she stopped asking, and waited. Dark elevator. The space was so quiet that Ella could hear the breathing of the person next to her.
A moment later, she heard his voice whisper. "What do you think about the divorce decision?"
Ella found it difficult to answer. "The contract is not over yet. I..." The phrase 'I don't want a divorce', she couldn't say.
"We play a game to pass the time." David felt that the atmosphere between them was too tense, so he suddenly suggested.
Ella wasn't interested but she thought that if they kept quiet in a situation like this, she would feel embarrassed. So she asked. "What's the game?"
Without answering her question, David reached into his pocket and pulled out a coin. He threw it high grabbed it and asked her. "Picture face or dial?"
This game is familiar and boring but it depends on luck, she has never guessed correctly. She felt frustrated, this time she had to try her luck. Before guessing, Ella narrowed her eyes. "What if I answer correctly?"
"You are free to do what you want, otherwise... haha... it will be me." David's smile was devious.
Ella did not believe the man had impure desires. Recalling what happened at the secret house, she thought it would be better if she was more careful. She asked suspiciously. "What do you mean?"
"Haven't started yet and you're scared? No one knows if we will win or lose." David's tone is firm, somewhat confident that the opponent cannot be ignored.
Ella thought that in the first place, she shouldn't accept his game, but now, she couldn't take her words back. "Picture face." She answered without hesitation.
David spread his hand out. Ella was disappointed to see the coin appearing in his palm as the dial. She guessed wrong. The corners of David's lips relaxed, he was pleased with her results.
"You said, what do you want me to do?" Ella asked, her face displeased.
"Don't divorce, okay?"
Ella was silent for a few seconds at David's question.
Not hearing her answer, he continued. "Let's just forget what happened, okay? I know you won't be able to forgive me, but, I won't force you."
Two hours later, the engine door was opened. Ella happily stood up. The smile died on her lips, in front of them was a group of employees standing huddled, gawking into the elevator.
She felt embarrassed and rushed back to her office. As she pushed through the staff, she seemed to catch a glimpse of someone. Maria to be exact, Maria's gaze was filled with jealousy.
In the bar.
David had finished three bottles of wine and was almost drunk.
"General manager, why are you drinking so much?" Key, who was sitting next to him, asked.
"This is not a company, don't call me general manager," David told him.
"OK. Mr. David, can you tell me now why did you invite me here for a drink? I remember you never had a drink." Key stared at David while he spoke.
"I did something wrong with Ella. I don't know what I should do."
Even though Key didn't know what it was, he still advised David. "If you made a mistake, apologize to Ella."
"I apologized and she wanted a divorce. When I agreed to the divorce, she said nothing. I don't know what she's thinking in her head. Women are very confusing." David said and raised his glass of wine.
