ADRIAN CASTILLO
I arrived with the detective decker at the station shortly.
"Where are they?" Detective Decker asked his men.
"Over there sir," they replied and we went to meet them.
"This is Sancho and this is Parker. They work with Carlos and were the two guys who were with him the night your wife went missing," An officer informed us.
"Where is Carlos?" Detective decker asked.
"Why don't you just kill us instead because if we tell you that we do not know where he is, you won't believe us." The man named Sancho said.
"Why did you say that so soon? It's not as if we plan to kill too when we know that's granting your wish. Why don't you do something for me, I mean it's going to be a win-win for us. Tell us where Mrs. Castillo is and you leave you freely and you won't be taken to jail?" Detective Decker told him.
"How can I tell you something that I do not know?" Sancho replied rhetorically.
I was furious. He was seen assisting Carlos In taking my wife and it's making me angry hearing his response. I was willing to do anything just to have my wife safe and sound.
"How about this, I will pay you a huge amount of money if you tell me where my wife is?" I suggested.
He stared at me with a frown on his face. "Like I said I do not know." He replied firmly, making me clench my fist.
Does he not know or does he know and he doesn't want to tell me because of some kind of path of what? I just do not get it.
"Have you ever been in love?" I asked him. I do not think that it was necessary but I had to ask. I wanted to know if he has ever been in love and if he knows how hard it is to be so far away from your loved ones without knowing if she was safe or not.
"I cannot relate to whatever you have to say. I do not know where she is and I do not care about the money you want to pay me," he said sternly.
I banged on the table hard with anger. How can someone be so difficult to speak to?
Detective Decker said nothing for a long while and I wonder what it is that I can do to get him to speak up. It was obvious he knows where she is but he doesn't want to talk about it.
"Let me ask you just one question. Just one question. Is my wife safe? That's all I want to know now. Is she alive? Just please tell me that," I pleaded.
"I do not know," he replied and I held myself back from punching him in the face.
"Okay. Fine. You do not know when you are free to go," Detective Decker said, surprising me with his statement.
"Wait what? go where? Are you telling him to leave when he is the one who kidnapped my wife?" I sounded puzzled.
"Yes," Detective Decker replied.
"You have got to be kidding me, aren't you?" I move closer to him, whispering.
"They said they do not know. For all I could think of, they might have been paid to help the job easy but weren't the ones who took her to the place so since we they are in denial they can go," he replied.
I stared at his face, trying to see if he was kidding but it turns out that he wasn't.
"The fuck!" I cursed angrily.
"Let them go," Detective Decker ordered his men and they let them go.
"Make sure to trail those men and do not let them out of your sight," Detective Decker told his men.
"Yes sir." They replied before leaving.
"Mr. Castillo, I didn't let them go. I let them go to catch them again. There is no doubt in my mind that they will lead us to where your wife is. They will eventually want to contact Carlos or they will k to where it is that she is. They work together with Carlos and were hell-bent on not saying anything and so I have decided to use this method on them." he explained.
I didn't think of that but this was also a good plan. As long as they will lead us to where my wife is, I am fine with it.
My phone rang and I excused myself.
"Hello grandfather," I answered, walking out of the station.
"Why didn't you inform me about Sophia's kidnap? When did it happen and why wasn't I informed?" He asked, sounding pissed.
How could I tell him when he was going through his problem. There was too much and I didn't want to burden him with more stories.
"I...."
"How are you holding up?" He questioned.
"I'd be lying if I said that I was fine because I am not grandfather," I replied.
"I will be returning tonight. I will try and use every possible means to bring her back. We will find her,@ he assured me.
All I wanted to do was hug myself. He gave me one of the best hugs in the world. When my parents died, he would wrap his arms around me and tell me that it would all be fine.
He was one of the strongest men in the world and k will forever love and adore him.
I got into my car and drove over to Sophia's parent's place because her father had texted me to come over. He has been doing his best to also find her with private investigators. I have also done mine.
Three days felt like three years and a week like an eternity and I wonder how I was still surviving.
----
"My private investigator got something. He was able to find the first location they had taken. Sophia too and he saw this," he pointed at the wristlet I gave to her to wear on her birthday.
This was indeed hers as it was a very unique design and I got it made especially for her. It means they moved immediately or some days after.
"Where was this?" I asked him.
"Two houses aware from the hall you used for her birthday party," he answered and I kicked an imaginary ball in the air in frustration.
She was so close yet I didn't know. She wasn't far away yet I didn't know! It was killing me and all I wanted to do was scream out loud in anger.
"Fuck! Fuck! How did we not know this! Oh my poor Sophia," I cried out in anger.
I could have saved her early but I didn't think that fast or deep and now I feel like going crazy.
"He is still doing his best. He will surely find her, trust me," he assured me.
"I hope he doesn't because I doubt I'd be able to remain calm for that long," I told him.
"You have to be calm Adrian. Sophia is fine and I am telling you she will be back to you soon," Jessica said from behind me, placing her hand on my shoulder.
"For how long Jessie? You keep saying she's fine and that I will find her but when? When! do you know how nervous and scared she might be right now? Do you know what she might be going through if she's being tortured? Do you know any of that?" I snapped.
"And you think acting this way will bring her back to on you?" She retorted with the same energy.
"You better calm yourself. Right now you should be very logical and think of how to find her and not get angry each time you think you are close and you end up not being able to," she remarked.
"They moved her Jessi! They moved her. It's as if they know we are going to find her and they moved her. It's as if there is a..." I trailed off when I saw the hairpin that I gave to Sophia that night of her birthday after the flowers on Jessie's hair.
"Where did you get this from?" I asked.
"What?" she asked.
"I'm talking about the hairpin?" I answered.
"The hairpin? You mean this?" She touched the hairpin and I nodded my head.
"Yes," I confirmed.
"I got it for myself. Do you have an issue with it?" She asked and I shook my head.
"No. Not at all. It's just that I got something like this for Sophia and she just still has it on her hair and that's if the kidnappers don't take it off her hair,@ I replied to her before moving away, running my fingers through my hair.
"I'm sorry. I'm just going to take it off so that you won't be reminded and hurt more," she said, taking it off her hair.
"Please can I see it?" I asked her.
She handed it to me and I stared at it before returning it to her.
"Is there a problem?" She asked and I shook my head.
