Louisa Unchained

Chapter 56

Ch. 56 / 262 Apr 29, 2026

  Louisa's POV

When I woke up the next morning, I felt it was a bit hard to breathe.

  Then, I saw it.

A white fur ball on top of my face.

  It was Mr. Weasel.

He was sleeping on my face and snorting!

I picked him up and put him softly on my bed.

He grumbled something and smacked his mouth.

I guessed he was having a feast of ducks and chicken in his dream.

I stretched my back and walked toward Will.

He woke up as well, busy putting the sheet over his head.

  I stopped him.

"Let me wash it for you," I said, "You can stay in the room for a while."

  Vincent walked into the room.

He looked much refreshed after a whole night of hunting.

I frowned when I looked at his dirty cape.

"Please take off your cape, Vincent. I'm going to wash them for you," I said.

Vincent said, "You're very kind, young lady. Thank you for your hospitality. But I have to take Will away when it's still dark outside."

"Are you going back to the cave?" I asked.

Vincent shook his head and said, "No. We're going to the old castle on the Cliff of Fear. I sort of organized it last night. Will loves that place. I saw him moving all of the treasures to that place. You're welcome to visit us any time you like and this is for you..."

He handed me a jewel-encrusted egg.

It was made of gold and covered by sparkling diamonds.

"Vincent, this is precious. I can't accept this..."

"Please accept this little gift as my way to express my gratitude and apology for everything. You gave me another life. Some people have traded all the treasures in the world for a second chance like that, but they just can't get it. If you need any help, young lady, you know where to find me. We have to be on our way now."

Then, he covered Will under the sheet and held him in his arms.

Will waved his little hands under the sheet and said, "Goodbye, Lisa. Please come and visit us."

"Yes, I promise I will. You're welcome to drop by here any time you like," I said.

Vincent turned his back and changed into a mist.

Then, they disappeared into the gentle breeze of wind.

"Wow, vampires travel in style. I want that."

  That's Mr. Weasel's voice.

"Are you feeling better now?" I asked.

He stretched out his front legs on the bed and said, "Help me, human woman! It's so itchy!"

I opened the bandage and saw his wounds almost healed.

I smiled at him and said, "You're making a great improvement! You can walk around now."

"I don't need bandages? You don't need to put that pink powder on my legs?" He tilted his head and asked me.

"Not anymore. You can take a few steps now," I replied.

"Are you sure? Because I still feel that it's very painful, you know..." Mr. Weasel wrapped himself around my arms.

I knew he just wanted my attention, so I tapped on his head and said, "Don't be a little sloth. You can walk on your own now."

He jumped on my bed and then got on the floor. He took a few steps forward and took a few steps back. Then, he arched his long waist and shook his head.

Then, he looked at me and said, "Yes, you're right, human woman! I can walk on my own now! Thank you for helping me and I need to go home now. I don't have anything to give back to you. If you want, you can hug me and give me a kiss."

I chuckled and lifted him up in my arms.

I quickly pecked on his head and rubbed my face on his neck.

His fur was so soft and cuddly.

"Goodbye, Mr. Weasel. Please take care," I said and put him on the floor.

He quickly ran out of the room and disappeared into the bushes.

  He didn't look back.

I walked into the yard while wiping my tears.

Darren was working on the construction of a shed when he saw me.

He quickly walked towards me and asked, "What happened, Lisa? Did you have a nightmare?"

"No," I whimpered, "Mr. Weasel has recovered and gone back to his family now. I don't want him to go. I know the thought is selfish. He isn't my pet and he has a family to take care of. But..."

Darren held me in his arms and said, "He'll come back and visit us. Don't worry. He's a tough little guy. He'll be fine."

I nodded and looked at the shed he was building.

Then, I heard a loud bang.

I turned back and saw the make-shift watermill collapse.

Then, I heard Ms. Salamander's voice, "No! You've broken their water mill, you stupid little brat!"

Darren must have heard the loud hissing sound. He frowned and asked, "What happened to the salamanders?"

I sighed and replied, "I don't know. How does she manage to have an argument with her brother when her brother isn't able to speak?"

I walked towards them and saw Ms. Salamander stepping on top of Mr. Salamander, who was waggling from side to side, trying to break away from his sister.

"Hey, can I help you with anything?" I asked.

A string of bubbles was getting out of Mr. Salamander's mouth.

I guess he wanted to say something.

Ms. Salamander refused to talk to me.

"Little lassie, you're stepping on your brother and he can't breathe now," I said.

"He has broken your watermill. I specifically told him to leave that poor old watermill alone, but he didn't listen. He climbed onto the watermill and crushed it. I'm going to step on top of him and drown him. Then, I'll help you to restore the watermill."

Watching Mr. Salamander struggling in the water, I said, "Please, Ms. Salamander, you can't drown your brother because he has broken something. That watermill was teetering and crumbling. I was about to tear it down and build a new one. Your brother has done us a favor. I should thank him. Come on, leave him alone. He's in distress now."

Ms. Salamander slid down from Mr. Salamander.

His giant head popped up from the stream and protested in a loud voice, "Don't do that again! It's not funny!"

"Hey, you can speak now! It's amazing! Have you grown your tongue back overnight?" I asked.

"Yep." He replied proudly, sticking out his tongue.

The missing part was growing back! It was as good as new!

  The wild animals were amazing!

"Why do you have to climb on that watermill?! Why don't you listen to me?!" Ms. Salamander scolded her brother.

Mr. Salamander moved behind me. I knew he was trying to hide behind my back.

  He was so cute.

"What happened?" I turned back, crouched down, and looked at him.

He rolled his eyes around and said, "I thought it was a Ferris Wheel. I saw kids in town doing it at the fair. I wanted to have a go. I'm sorry for breaking your watermill. I'll help you to make a new one."

I melted. He was just a child who wanted to play.

I patted his giant head and winked at him, "Don't worry. It's OK. I'll cook some breakfast first and then we'll sort it out."

Then, I heard the sound of steps from the gate.
