I stand frozen as I watch Molls disappear over the side of the bridge, as her feet leave the air she grabs hold of Amy's top pulling her with her then her terrified eyes meet mine and I snap out of my still state and move my ass like never before to reach her but before I can reach her a hand snaps out and grips her arm and holds on tight.
I quickly reach Jack's side just as Tom and Zack appear on the other side of me as we all try to grab hold of her while Jack is still holding onto her arm. He's a strong guy and I know that usually, he wouldn't have much trouble getting her back up by himself but Amy also has a hold of her so he holding both of their weight.
"Chris!" She calls out to me, the fear in her eyes and tone is pure and raw and it tears at my heart. "I've got you, Molls!" Jack shouts down at her drawing my attention to him. I don't know what the fuck he is playing at with Amy but right now he literally has my life in his hands so I'm going to work with him but after this, all bets are off.
Jack keeps holding on while Callum comes up behind him and gives him some more weight behind him while the rest of us still try to get our hands on Molly but my bitch of an ex is making it impossible. I hear a scream and watch Molly cry out as Amy digs her nails into her face. "Molly, you need to get her off you sweetheart!" She looks up at me as the realization of what I've said hits her. Getting Amy off her will mean Amy falling into the river but right now I don't care because if she doesn't let go of Molly soon they could both full in and I can't let that happen.
Molly manages to give Amy a good kick to the stomach causing her to cry out and lose her hold on her only to grab hold of her feet at the last second so now she literally hanging above the river. "Molly, give me your hand baby!" She reaches up as much as she can but she still can't quite reach me and if I lean over the edge any more than I already am then I'm gonna fall in which won't help us.
"Molly, try and bring your free hand to me." Jack still has hold of them both but I can see that he's starting to struggle. I try to reach her again and feel relief when I manage to get hold of her hand but my relief is soon turned to worry when a pained look comes over her face. "She fucking bite me!" Amy actually bites her leg. "For fuck sake, really Amy!" Tom grunts making Cal snigger. Molly's pain soon seems to change to anger as she starts kicking out her legs and then it happens, she kicks out harder than ever and Amy losses her grip on her and falls into the river.
I put my attention straight back to Molly and with Jack's help, we pull her up from the bridge. The moment her feet touch the ground her body gives up and she collapses into me. Her body is worn out from holding on for her life once again and now that her mind knows that she's safe it seems she has completely lost all of her energy so I pick her up and hold her tight to me and I don't ever want to put her back down.
I back up and slowly lower myself to the ground while keeping my arms wrapped tightly around Molly. She hasn't said a word since we got her but after almost dying here twice in just a few days on top of everything that has happened today, I can only imagine what's going through her head right now. Thinking about how I could have lost her again sparks the fear in my heart once more as she squeezes me tighter like she can't get close enough to me. "I've got you darlin', it's ok." I place a gentle kiss on top of her head as I run one of my hands gently along her back.
Two feet appear in my eyes and I look up to find Zack standing in front of us, Molly must sense him too as she suddenly looks up at him, her face laced with worry. "Is she ok?" He gives us a strange look and then lets out a long breath as he runs a hand through his hair. "We don't know sweetheart. She landed on some rocks that were just under the surface of the water. Tom went to check on her, she was unconscious but breathing so he called an ambulance. She nods her head but I can tell that her mind is running wild right now.
As if I needed a kick in the balls reality quickly sets back in when I hear grunting to find Callum has a hold of both Jack and my Dad and he's currently dragging them my way. Fuck for a moment there I forgot about what was going on. Fuck if I'm being honest I still don't want to know but I need to. "The ambulance will be here now along with the police because she fell. You two have some explaining to do and I suggest you make it quick or I may have to have a little chat with them!" Tom is soaking from going in the river and then carrying Amy up to the bridge with him but he doesn't let it bother him.
"You properly shouldn't have carried her up here Tom." Zack doesn't look like he's actually bothered but more stating a fact. "Well, I needed to be up here with you guys and even unconscious I don't trust her to be left alone so it is what it is!" He's got a point I'd do the same. Molly slowly stands up never taking her eyes off my Dad whos being a coward as he's still looking down at the ground. I know they both have some sort of part in this but I also have a feeling that there's more to my dad's part than Jack's.
She steps back and leans against the bridge, I follow her getting up from the ground but as I come to stand next to her I pull her in front of me so she's resting against my body. she moulds into my body like she was made for me and even in this nightmare of a situation that we are in I still take a moment to enjoy the feel of her against me.
"Start explaining Dad!" Zack barks from beside me. Callum and Tom have come to stand on the other side of me and we all keep our focus on our Dad and brother while I'm certain we're all thinking the same thing. How could they? Finally, he takes his eyes off the floor but his only focus is on Molly making me instantly tense up.
"I'm sorry for what I have done to you Molly but if you hadn't of come here then non of this would have happened!" He raises his voice seeming to get angry and it only fucks me off but then his words hit me. He really did do this, my own dad! "You held Molly in the barn? Put a bag over her head then brought her here to Amy?" I try to remain calm but I'm struggling. He nods his head before looking over to the spot where Molly almost died just moments ago.
"Why?" Zack asks as he fidgets next to me. This is so hard for all of us to hear. "Does it matter? It's done now!"
"Does it matter? Are you fucking kidding me!" Tom yells. "You have held my best friend against her will. You have brought your son's girlfriend to a place where you knew that his crazy ex-wife was going to harm her and you ask does it matter?"
"I'm sorry ok, I really am." He doesn't sound as sorry as he should be that's for certain if anything he just seems angry, maybe it's because he's been caught, I'm not sure but the one thing I am certain is that the man standing in front of me isn't my father. What the hell has happened to my dad?
"What did you mean when you said that if I hadn't come here then this wouldn't have happened?" Molly goes to take a step towards him but I stop her, he may be my Dad but right now I wouldn't trust him as far as I could throw him. "Amy was fine until you came here, yes I had to do small things for her but they were nothing that I couldn't handle then you came here and somehow she found out about you having money and a business and she got greedy, wanted it all and I had to help her. If you hadn't of come here then things would still be ok and none of this would have happened, no one would have to know!"
This time I go to take a step forward but both Molly and Tom stop me. "Shout at her like that again and no one will be able to stop me, do you understand me?" I'm furious at him for shouting at Molly and furious that it sounds like he's been playing some sort of game with Amy for months and yet I have a feeling there's a lot more to come.
"This doesn't make sense. Dad why?" Callum asks sounding as hurt as everyone else. "Because I didn't have a choice ok! I didn't have a choice but it doesn't even matter now because the truth will come out and it was all for nothing." His anger seems to be sliding away and now he looks more upset than anything but I don’t feel bad for him, I can't, not yet anyway. first, I need to know everything that's happened.
"She's been blackmailing you?" He nods his head but I'm not shocked that Amy would do that but it must be something big for my Dad to crumble to her demands, to bring Molly here. This isn't the man that I know, the man standing in front of me isn't my father and it's destroying me. "Why? What has she got over you?" Jack asks him slightly confusing me. If he is involved in this then surely he knows what's going on.
My dad looks at the ground as shame washes over his face and I dread his answer. "Dad look at us. Tell us why she has been blackmailing you?" He takes a couple of deep breaths and that's when I notice tears in his eyes. "Do you remember when I went to watch the races almost a year and a half ago with the guys from the club?" His visits to the local old man's club have become a weekly regular for him and they often go out on day trips. We all nod and then wait for him to continue.
"Well while we were there we ran into Amy and some of her friends. I didn't want to speak to her or even see her for that matter but one of the guys is the Grandad to one of her friends and so they stayed by us for the night. After the races were over we went to a local pub for a few pints." He stops talking and turns around so he's not facing any of us as he continues. "I woke up the next morning in some hotel room with... with Amy in the same bed as me and well, you can guess what had happened."
