I Wanna Ruin Our Friendship

The Girl Who Ruins Everything

Ch. 81 / 162 Apr 09, 2026

The next day at school, it was clear that Vanessa was on a warpath. Her presence was impossible to ignore, her every move calculated and deliberate. I caught her glaring at me more than once, her sharp whispers with Alyssa slicing through the air like knives meant to hit their mark. By lunchtime, the damage was done—the rumors had started spreading like wildfire.

“She’s been stringing Caleb along for months,” I overheard someone say as I walked past a group of students clustered near the lockers. Their voices weren’t even hushed.

“Everyone knows she’s still obsessed with Logan,” another voice added, dripping with disdain.

“Caleb deserves better,” someone else chimed in. “She’s just using him. It’s pathetic.”

My chest tightened, each word slicing deeper than the last. Vanessa’s handiwork was as obvious as it was effective, and it stung in a way I hadn’t expected. The hallways felt like they were closing in, the whispers following me like a shadow I couldn’t shake.

Vanessa was relentless, taking every opportunity to twist the knife. When I passed her in the hallway, her gaze locked onto mine, and a smirk spread across her face, her victory clear in her eyes.

“Have fun last night?” she asked sweetly, her voice loud enough for Caleb to hear.

My stomach churned, a wave of nausea rising at the implication. I forced myself to keep walking, my face burning with humiliation. Behind me, Caleb’s gaze followed me, his expression unreadable. I didn’t dare look back, my pace quickening as I escaped down the hall.

The rest of the day passed in a haze, the weight of Vanessa’s words clinging to me like a second skin. She had won this round, and she knew it. But as much as it hurt, I couldn’t let her see me break. Not yet.

Not while I still had pieces left to pick up.

By the time I reached Sarah at our usual lunch spot, my hands were trembling with anger. I dropped my tray onto the table with more force than necessary, the clatter drawing her attention.

“She’s spreading rumors again,” I said, the frustration evident in my voice.

Sarah raised an eyebrow, pausing mid-bite. “What now?”

“She’s telling everyone I’m playing Caleb while pining for Logan,” I said, my voice low but heated.

“Well,” Sarah said cautiously, setting down her fork. “It’s not entirely false, is it?”

Her words stung, cutting deeper than Vanessa’s rumors ever could. “That doesn’t mean she has the right to make my life hell,” I muttered, my jaw tightening.

Sarah sighed, her expression softening as she leaned across the table. “Emma, you need to figure out what you want. Until you do, people like Vanessa will keep using your confusion against you.”

The tension between Logan and me was equally unbearable. He tried to approach me between classes, his eyes full of the same longing that had haunted me for weeks. But Vanessa was always nearby, her sharp gaze watching like a hawk.

“You need to stop this,” she hissed at me during lunch, cornering me in the hallway. “You’re ruining everything.”

“I’m not the one spreading rumors,” I shot back, my voice low but firm. “Maybe you should take a look at yourself before blaming me.”

Vanessa’s expression darkened, but she didn’t say anything else. She simply walked away, her silence somehow more unnerving than her usual venom.

That evening, as I sat in my room staring at my phone, I felt trapped—caught between two people who demanded different versions of me. Caleb’s name lit up my screen with a text, but I didn’t open it. I couldn’t. Not when the weight of everything was already crushing me.
