My whole world turned into a blur.
The sun bathed the field in a golden glow, the tall grass swaying around us like waves in an endless sea. The warmth of the breeze caressed my skin, carrying the soft scent of lavender and earth. I stood barefoot in the grass, my white dress flowing around me like mist, clinging to my legs in the gentle wind.
Caleb stood behind me, his arms wrapped securely around my waist, his body pressed close, radiating heat and strength. His lips brushed the curve of my neck, slow and deliberate, leaving a trail of tingling warmth in their wake. His breath was hot against my skin as he murmured, “You’re mine, Emma. We belong together.”
My lips parted, but before I could speak, another touch sent shivers down my spine. Logan. He stood in front of me, close enough that our bodies almost touched. His fingers, calloused and warm, traced along my arm, moving up to my jaw, tilting my face toward his. His blue eyes burned into mine, filled with something desperate, something raw.
“You feel this too, don’t you?” he whispered, his thumb brushing against my lips, making my breath hitch.
I was caught between them, their touches setting my skin ablaze. Caleb tightened his grip on my waist, his mouth ghosting along my shoulder, while Logan leaned in, his lips just a breath away from mine.
“I love you, Emma,” Logan said, his voice filled with quiet intensity. His lips found mine, slow and deep, pulling me under like a tide I couldn’t resist. His hands tangled in my hair, his kiss laced with longing and something that felt an awful lot like forever.
But before I could lose myself in him, Caleb turned me in his arms. “You’re mine too,” he said, his hazel eyes darkening as he captured my lips in a kiss that was fire and possession, leaving me breathless. My fingers gripped his shirt, my heart pounding wildly as I felt his body press against mine.
I was drowning in them—two forces pulling me in different directions, yet neither letting me go. And then, a soft cry broke the moment.
I tore away, looking down, my arms suddenly full—babies. Twins. Their tiny bodies were warm against me, their faces familiar yet so different. One had Caleb’s eyes, deep and golden, filled with warmth and something achingly familiar. The other had Logan’s, sharp and piercing, a mirror of the man I had loved for as long as I could remember.
I gasped, my chest tightening as I looked between them, the weight of them pressing into me like an impossible choice.
“This is where you belong,” Caleb said, his voice unwavering, his hand resting over mine.
“With us,” Logan added, his fingers ghosting over my cheek, his touch featherlight yet electric.
The babies cried louder, their voices harmonizing in a sound that sliced through me like a blade. The field blurred, the golden sunlight twisting into something too bright, too harsh. The warmth disappeared. Everything faded—
And I woke up with a jolt.
My whole world turned into a blur.
I was sitting up in bed, my chest heaving, sweat clinging to my temples. My breathing was uneven, my heartbeat drumming wildly against my ribs. The morning light seeped through the curtains, but it did little to calm the chaos storming inside me.
“What the—?” My voice was hoarse, my mind racing.
The weight of the dream pressed down on me like a phantom touch—I could still feel Caleb’s lips on my neck, Logan’s fingers brushing my jaw, the weight of the twins in my arms. Their cries still echoed in my ears, sharp and real, as if they had been there, in my room, pulling me from sleep.
“No. No way. It’s just a stupid dream.”
But my hands wouldn’t stop trembling.
My phone vibrated on the nightstand, breaking through my daze. I grabbed it instinctively, my fingers fumbling as I squinted at the screen.
3 missed calls from Logan.
“Ugh, seriously?” I muttered under my breath, throwing my head back against the pillow.
I hadn’t spoken to Logan or Caleb in days. After everything that had happened—the fights, the betrayals, the tangled web of emotions—I didn’t know how to even start untangling the mess I had created. I couldn’t trust my own feelings, let alone theirs.
My fingers hovered over my phone, tempted to call him back, but then there was a sudden knock at my door.
“Emma? It’s Sarah. Open up!”
I groaned, dragging myself out of bed. My legs felt like lead as I shuffled toward the door and pulled it open. Sarah stood there, arms crossed, looking equal parts annoyed and concerned.
“You look like hell,” she said bluntly, pushing past me into the room.
“Good morning to you too,” I muttered, shutting the door behind her.
Sarah flopped onto my bed, scanning my face with narrowed eyes. “What’s going on? I’ve been texting you, calling you, and nothing. You went full ghost mode.”
I hesitated, running a hand through my messy hair. “It’s complicated.”
Sarah rolled her eyes. “Well, get un-complicated. We’ve got places to be.” She gestured at the clock on my wall. “Your doctor’s appointment? Ring a bell?”
I froze. My stomach dropped. Shit.
“I forgot,” I admitted, pressing my fingers to my temples.
“That’s why I’m here. Get dressed. We’re leaving in fifteen.”
I barely nodded, my mind still tangled in the remnants of the dream. Twins. Caleb and Logan. Their touches, their kisses.
What the hell was my subconscious trying to tell me?
I swallowed the lump in my throat and forced myself to move. I had bigger things to deal with right now—like the fact that Logan was trying to reach me.
Or the fact that I wasn’t sure which terrified me more: what the dream meant…
Or what would happen if I had to choose.
