I gasped, the air leaving my lungs in a single, sharp burst. My knees buckled, and I sank to the cold tile floor, the test clutched tightly in my hand. Tears spilled freely down my cheeks, and a sob wracked my chest.
“This can’t be happening,” I whispered, shaking my head. “It’s not real.”
But it was. The two pink lines didn’t lie.
I pressed my hands to my face, my thoughts spinning out of control. Caleb. Logan. The chaos between us. The looks, the touches, the whispers of something too big to contain.
What am I going to do?
The weight of the secret crushed me, the enormity of it threatening to suffocate me. How could I face Caleb, knowing the truth might destroy him? How could I look Logan in the eye when I didn’t even know if this was his? How could I live with myself, knowing the mess I had made?
Tears blurred my vision as I curled up on the floor, the test lying next to me like a ticking time bomb.

That evening, I sat on Sarah’s bed, twisting my hands in my lap as I replayed the day in my head. My heart felt heavy, and my stomach churned with something I couldn’t name.
“I slept with both of them, Sarah. I didn’t plan it, it just... happened. So we didn’t use protection. They both could be fathers.”
Sarah’s eyes widened, and she sat up straighter. “Emma, what the hell? You know how risky that is, right? For... for everything?”
I nodded, tears stinging my eyes. “I know. I know. I was so caught up in everything—Logan’s emotions, Caleb’s chaos—I didn’t think. And now... now I don’t know what to do.”
Sarah ran a hand through her hair, clearly trying to process what I’d just said. “Okay, first of all, you need to calm down. Then we figure everything out,” Sarah said, her voice steady. “But you can’t keep burying your head in the sand. You need to take control of this, Emma.”
I nodded reluctantly, though the thought of taking a test made my chest tighten. I didn’t want to know the answer, but I knew Sarah was right. Ignoring it wasn’t an option anymore.
