I Wanna Ruin Our Friendship

A New Beginning

Ch. 107 / 162 Apr 09, 2026

Walking back into school after everything felt surreal, like stepping into a place frozen in time while I had changed in ways I couldn’t fully understand yet. The familiar buzz of voices in the hallways, the clang of lockers, and the smell of floor polish—all of it seemed strangely distant.

But today was different. Today, I wasn’t just surviving. I was moving forward.

I found myself standing in front of the door to the guidance counselor’s office, clutching my notebook tightly. My heart pounded as I knocked softly.

“Come in,” a warm voice called.

Pushing the door open, I stepped inside to find Mrs. Harper, my guidance counselor, sitting at her desk. Her kind eyes lit up when she saw me.

“Emma,” she said with a smile. “It’s good to see you. How are you feeling?”

“I’m... better,” I said honestly, taking a seat across from her.

“I’m glad to hear that.” Mrs. Harper folded her hands on the desk, her gaze steady. “What can I do for you today?”

I took a deep breath, steadying myself. “I wanted to talk about college. I know I’ve been... behind on everything, but I’m ready to catch up. I’ve decided I want to go to medical school.”

Mrs. Harper blinked, her smile growing wider. “Medical school?”

I nodded, my voice growing stronger. “I’ve been through a lot, and... I don’t want anyone else to feel the way I did. I want to help people. I want to make a difference.”

“That’s wonderful, Emma,” she said, leaning forward slightly. “You’ve always had such potential. I’m so happy to see you taking this step. You’re going to do great things.”

Her words sent a warmth through me, a flicker of pride and hope I hadn’t felt in what felt like forever.

The rest of the day passed in a blur of classes and cautious smiles from classmates who seemed unsure how to approach me after everything. But for the first time, I didn’t feel weighed down by the whispers or the stares.

By lunch, I found myself sitting alone at a table in the corner of the cafeteria. I wasn’t ready to dive back into the chaos of friendships and drama, but the solitude was... peaceful.

My thoughts drifted to Vanessa. She still hadn’t returned to school, and as much as I hated to admit it, I was worried about her.

She’s the reason everything fell apart, I reminded myself. But another thought quickly followed: And yet, she’s also a person. She’s scared. Alone.

Despite everything Vanessa had done to me, the idea of her going through her pregnancy in isolation made my chest tighten.

By the time the final bell rang, I had made up my mind. As I packed up my things and walked toward the exit, I pulled out my phone and opened my contacts. Scrolling to Vanessa’s name, I hesitated for only a moment before typing out a message:

Vanessa, it’s Emma. I just wanted to check on you. Let me know if you need anything.

I stared at the screen for a moment before hitting send, my heart pounding.
