Annette nodded and said, "I know, Roxanne. You will be by my side, as well as my child."
She gently patted her belly.
"Roxanne, do you know? The only thing that surprised me after I got pregnant is that I feel I have become stronger minded. Even if the current situation is not optimistic, I will try to muster up the courage to face it."
Roxanne held Annette's hand and smiled. "This is the Annette I know. Have you thought about how to face Connor?"
Annette sighed and shook her head. "I don't know."
"The reason why you are so angry is that you love him deeply. Am I right?"
Annette did not say anything.
Roxanne said, "When you were with Kyle and Kyle cheated on you, you were not so sad. In comparison, you were heartbroken this time. It was because you accepted Connor wholeheartedly. You never thought that he would do anything to hurt you. So you would be devastated if he crossed the line."
Annette sat on the bed, still a little confused.
Roxanne said, "Ann, you have to face up your love for Connor first."
"I admit it," Annette nodded and said. "My feelings for Connor are indeed different from that for Kyle. When I was with Kyle, I was touched and willing to work hard for our relationship. Even if the result was not good, I didn't regret it because I had tried my best. As for Connor..."
As she spoke, deep down, she compromised.
"At first, Connor often came to me. I thought I could refuse him. But every time I needed him, he was by my side. Gradually, I let down my guard toward him. Roxanne, now I know that you can't explain why you love someone. He hit my sore spot, and I'm in pain."
Annette shook her head.
"I thought that he would be with me for the rest of my life. But now, I'm not sure."
"You are each other's mates, and you are having his baby now. What do you want to do?"
Annette clenched her fists and said in confusion, "I don't have the courage to face him. If I saw him, I would think about how he had turned me into a member of the Black Thorn Pack. It is terrible for me."
"There is never a perfect man in this world," Roxanne said and sighed.
After a while, they looked at each other and smiled.
Annette said, "Enough about that topic. Let's go to sleep."
Roxanne nodded.
They lay down together. Roxanne suddenly said, "By the way, Connor is still downstairs. Are you going to continue to ignore him?"
Annette felt a little pain in her heart, but she still said, "Let him be."
Roxanne did not say anything else.
Annette felt troubled.
What was Connor doing at the entrance so late at night?
Annette turned to the window.
More than half an hour later, the sound of Roxanne breathing evenly could be heard.
Annette sat up and covered Roxanne with the blanket before getting out of bed. She walked to the window and looked down.
Although there were street lights, she could not see anything except for the roof of Connor's car.
Her expression was sad. Her head was leaning against the window, and her mind was blank.
After a long time, Annette put on her coat, picked up the key, and went downstairs.
Connor did not sleep either, so he saw Annette coming out in time.
He opened the car door, got out of the car, and walked toward her.
"It's so late. Why are you out?"
Annette looked at Connor coldly and said, "Why are you still here?"
Connor said, "I was worried that you may need me for something."
"I told you to leave because I knew that I wouldn't need you. Even if I needed help, I wouldn't turn to you."
Connor held Annette's shoulders with both hands and said seriously, "Annette, I know how angry you are now. It doesn't matter if you resent me, but don't say that I have betrayed you. Right now, only you are in my heart. I want to face the difficulty and take responsibility with you this time. Even if everyone betrays you, I will always accompany and support you. I didn't expect that you would hate me so much because of the exposure of your identity. You didn't even give me a chance to make up for it. If I don't stay here to protect you, I don't know what else I can do for you. So, go upstairs and have a rest now. Let me stay here with you, okay?"
Annette turned her head to avoid Connor's affectionate eyes.
She looked calm when she came downstairs just now.
Her purpose was to let Connor leave and return to his house.
But Connor's words made her feel confused and uneasy.
"Annette."
"Don't say more," Annette looked at Connor with tears in her eyes and said, "You know what I care about the most. However, you didn't even discuss it with me before making a decision. Have you ever cared about my feelings?"
Seeing her in such pain, Connor wanted to reach out to her.
Annette took a step back warily.
She said vigilantly, "Don't touch me, Connor. I don't want you to decide everything for me in the name of love. What I need is respect."
"Annette, I know it's too late to apologize now. I swear, I won't make decisions on my own in the future."
Annette shook her head. "I won't believe a man who doesn't even respect me."
Connor frowned and said, "What do you mean? Annette, I'll never leave you. That's never gonna happen."
"I haven't made any plans yet, because I am in pain right now." Annette lowered her eyes sadly and continued, "I don't want to see you or hear you say anything that will sway me. I hope you can leave me alone for the time being."
Annette turned and left.
At that moment, tears streamed down from the corners of her eyes.
She went upstairs quickly.
Connor took out another cigarette and lit it. This time, he didn't allow it to burn itself and took two puffs.
He was agitated.
Alina had caused him so much trouble.
What exactly could he do to settle it?
After smoking, Connor drove away from the apartment building.
He did not go far. Instead, he parked the car somewhere else.
That was the only thing he could do now.
Annette did not go home and went to the top of the building.
She wanted to stand in the cool breeze to clear her mind.
When she returned home, it was an hour later.
The phone that Annette had been charging in the living room was flashing.
She walked over and took a look. There were more than thirty missed calls. They were all from Lance.
She thought, 'Lance called me so urgently. It must be because my identity was exposed and his image was ruined.'
Annette ignored the phone and turned back to her room.
She walked to the window and looked downstairs.
Connor's car was gone.
Annette couldn't describe the feeling in her heart.
That night, she lay in bed tossing and turning. It was not until daybreak that she slowly fell asleep.
