Hiding My Twin Pups From their Alpha Dad

Chapter 91

Ch. 91 / 120 May 04, 2026

Felicia woke before dawn. She sat on the edge of the bed, spine straight, and listened. The corridor sounds filtered through the door, quiet footsteps and low voices carrying in the stillness.

After several seconds, she stood. Her bare feet found the cool floor as she crossed to the children's beds. Danny's shoulder was warm under her palm. Max stirred but didn't wake.

"Sleep." She whispered it close to their ears.

Neither boy moved. Satisfied, Felicia turned toward the door. Her hand went to the inner bolt, checking its position. Still unlocked from last night.

She opened the door two fingers wide. Just enough to see through. The corridor stretched out, emergency lighting casting long shadows.

Damien sat on a chair near the stairs. A tablet glowed in his hands, and his voice carried low as he spoke to the security chief. Work tone, controlled and professional.

Felicia stepped fully into the corridor. "I want the corridor access list. Seventy-two hours back."

Her voice came out even, demanding. Damien's eyes lifted immediately. He turned the screen toward her without hesitation.

"Marcus entered at 0300. Stevens at 0445. Jared took south corridor at 0620." He named each person aloud, giving her the information without making her read the small text herself.

Felicia's finger traced down the rows. Names, timestamps, authorization codes. Then she stopped. Her fingertip pressed against the screen.

"This access has no duty officer signature." Her voice dropped several degrees. "That's not a glitch."

Damien didn't flinch. "It's manual intervention."

No excuses followed. No attempts to explain it away. Just acknowledgment of what the missing signature meant.

Felicia's jaw tightened. "Suspend Stevens and Jared. Immediately."

"All units." Damien lifted his radio. "Stevens and Jared are suspended effective now. Report to holding. No exceptions."

He repeated her order word for word. Made it clear this came from her assessment, her authority. The radio crackled with confirmations.

A sound came from behind Felicia. She turned. Danny stood in the doorway, rubbing his eyes with small fists.

"Why are you here?" His voice came out thick with sleep, confused.

"Go back inside." Felicia kept her tone calm, gentle.

Damien stayed silent. Didn't insert himself into the moment or try to answer Danny directly. Just maintained his position while she handled it.

Felicia guided Danny back into the room. Her hand rested on his shoulder, steering him toward his bed. When he was settled, she closed the door behind her.

She returned to the corridor with her notebook in hand. The leather cover felt solid against her palm. Damien waited where she'd left him, not moving closer.

"Today we work without surprises." Her voice came out harsh, final. "If you hide anything, I close access to my wing."

The threat was clear. One step wrong, one piece of information withheld, and she'd seal herself and the children away. Damien nodded once.

"Understood." The word came out quiet, accepting.

He didn't try to soften her phrasing or negotiate better terms. Just took the directive as given.

They moved to the office together. Felicia entered first and closed the door herself. The latch clicked with finality. She sat across from him, the desk a clear boundary between them.

Her notes spread across her side of the surface. She positioned them so he couldn't lean forward and crowd her space. Everything stayed in her control, her domain.

"Access panel." She spoke shortly, clipped. "Who has keys?"

"Five people. Marcus, Stevens, Jared, Thompson, and myself." Damien's answer came clear and direct.

"Backup codes?"

"Changed monthly. Last update was three weeks ago." No hesitation, no evasion.

"Who approved the change?"

"I did. Felicia verified the list." Damien kept his responses factual, stripped of unnecessary detail.

Felicia asked more questions. Sharp inquiries about security protocols, timing windows, authorization chains. Damien answered each one without adding "but" or "however." Just straight facts.

He leaned forward to point at something on the map spread between them. His hand moved toward the paper. Felicia's voice cut through the movement.

"Stop."

Damien froze. Then he pulled back, creating a half-step of distance. His expression stayed neutral, no offense showing on his features.

"I'm controlling the distance." Felicia spoke evenly, explaining without apology.

"Yes." Damien's response was simple acceptance.

He returned to his explanation from where he sat. Didn't try again to lean closer or invade the space she'd marked as hers. Just adapted to the boundary she'd drawn.

Their hands rested on the table. Close enough that their fingers could touch if either moved slightly. But Damien kept his hands perfectly still. No accidental brush of skin, no manufactured moment of contact.

Felicia noted it. Filed the restraint away as another data point in the growing pattern of his behavior.

When she'd extracted all the information she needed, she closed her notebook. The leather cover made a soft sound as it settled shut.

"Trust is discipline." She spoke the words like a rule, fundamental and unchanging.

Damien met her eyes. "I will have it."

Quiet. Sincere. Not asking for acknowledgment or requesting she believe him. Just stating intention.

Felicia stood first. She walked to the door and pulled it open. Her movements were controlled, measured. No slam, no sharp crack of anger.

The door stayed open behind her. A signal that the conversation wasn't sealed forever. That there would be more discussions, more tests, more opportunities to prove consistency.

Damien remained seated. He watched her leave but didn't follow. Gave her the space to exit on her own terms, in her own time.

Felicia moved down the corridor. Her footsteps were quiet on the runner carpet. Behind her, she heard Damien stand and return to his work.

No attempts to prolong contact. No manufactured reasons to stay close. Just acceptance of where she drew the line.

Back in her wing, she checked on the children again. Both boys slept peacefully, their breathing deep and even. The threat from last night lingered in her mind, but the immediate response had been solid.

Stevens and Jared were contained. The access list would be reviewed completely. Damien had given her everything she'd asked for without resistance.

It wasn't trust yet. Not fully. But it was the foundation trust could be built on. Discipline. Consistency. Transparency even when it was uncomfortable.

Felicia sat at her small desk and opened the notebook. She added notes from this morning's exchange. The way he'd turned the screen to her immediately. How he'd repeated her orders word for word. His restraint when she'd said stop.

Small actions that together formed a pattern. One she was beginning to recognize as different from before. Not perfect. Not enough to erase years of betrayal. But real nonetheless.

Outside her window, dawn broke over the packhouse. Light spilled across the grounds, pushing back darkness. A new day bringing new tests of whether their fragile cooperation could hold.

But for now, she had what she needed. Information. Control. And a partner who was learning to work within the boundaries she set.

The reconstruction continued. One disciplined choice at a time.
