Hiding My Twin Pups From their Alpha Dad

Chapter 114

Ch. 114 / 120 May 04, 2026

Felicia entered the assembly hall first. The large room stretched before her, empty chairs arranged in a semicircle. She didn't sit. Sitting meant giving up position, surrendering the advantage of height and mobility.

She grabbed a chair and placed it behind her. A barrier, something between her back and the rest of the room. Then she positioned herself where she could see the doors clearly.

Footsteps echoed. Damien entered second. He crossed to a position behind her and to the right, not stepping forward or claiming the center. Just there, present but secondary.

The elders filed in. Five of them, their faces set in practiced expressions of authority. They began with formal greetings, voices carrying that ceremonial weight.

"To the point." Felicia's voice cut through the ritual. "No introductions."

One elder stepped forward. Elder Matthias, the name she'd written in capital letters. "The pack has rights that must be addressed. Protection of our young requires—"

Felicia's hand shot up. Palm out, fingers spread. "Stop."

The elder's mouth closed. Felicia lowered her hand slowly. "My children aren't part of your rights."

Matthias's eyes shifted toward Damien. Looking for support, for the Alpha to assert control. Felicia's voice came out sharp. "He's silent."

Damien didn't contradict. Didn't step forward or try to reclaim authority with words. He just lowered his chin in a single nod, confirming her statement.

The gesture landed in the room like dropped stone. The elders' expressions shifted, uncertainty creeping in at the edges. Felicia pulled a paper from her pocket and placed it on the table.

"Access list." She pointed at the names. "Elders have no entry to my corridor. No exceptions."

Another elder spoke up, his voice carrying practiced reasonableness. "Luna, surely you understand that pack security requires oversight from those with experience—"

"No." One word, delivered without raising her voice.

The elder stopped. His mouth worked, trying to find another angle. Felicia didn't give him time.

"Any attempt to circumvent this order results in isolation." She looked at each elder in turn. "Meeting concluded."

She walked to the door. Didn't wait for acknowledgment or dismissal rituals. Just left, her footsteps steady and controlled across the stone floor.

The corridor outside was cooler. Felicia's hands started to pulse, blood beating hard against her palms. She clenched them into fists, then released. Clenched again, released. Trying to disperse the adrenaline flooding her system.

Movement beside her. Damien appeared, taking one step closer. He stopped before reaching her elbow, maintaining distance. "You didn't flinch."

His voice was quiet. Not a compliment, just recognition. Acknowledgment of what she'd just done. Felicia's jaw tightened.

"I didn't have the right to flinch." The words came out even and controlled.

She didn't look at him for long. Just a glance, then her eyes moved forward again. They started walking, and Felicia noticed Damien falling into step beside her. Closer than usual, but not so close that their arms might brush.

He was keeping the distance she'd established. Not trying to shorten it on his own initiative, just accepting what she allowed.

"They'll look for weakness." Felicia kept her voice low. "Find a crack and exploit it."

"Not in the children." Damien's response came immediately. "And not in you."

Felicia's eyes cut to him. "In you?"

"I'll take the hits on myself." His tone stayed level. "Direct them away from you and the boys."

Felicia stopped walking. "No heroics."

"No heroics." Damien repeated it without hesitation.

They resumed walking. The corridor stretched ahead, familiar territory leading back to her wing. Felicia passed closer to Damien than she normally would. Close enough that most men would have reached out, would have let their hand drift to her shoulder.

Damien didn't. Even when they turned the corner and momentum might have brought them into contact, he adjusted his position. Stayed in his lane without crossing into hers.

"This way I can walk beside you." The words came out quieter than she'd intended.

Damien accepted them with silence. No request for more, no asking what she meant or trying to extract promises. Just quiet acknowledgment that she'd given him something.

They reached her wing. The guard stood at his post, alert but relaxed. Felicia's hand went to the door handle and pushed it open.

Inside, Danny and Max were playing quietly. Their voices carried soft and happy through the room. Felicia stepped across the threshold and turned to close the door.

Her hand moved to the inner bolt. The mechanism that would seal her inside, separate from everything outside. Her fingers touched the metal.

Then she pulled her hand back. Left the bolt open, the door locked only on the main mechanism. Not fully closed off, not creating that complete barrier.

The choice felt significant. Weighted with meaning she wasn't ready to fully examine. But the logic was clear enough in her mind.

He didn't press. She didn't close off.

When he respected her boundaries, she could afford to lower some walls. Not all of them, not throwing them down completely. Just adjusting, creating space for something new to exist.

Felicia moved to her children. Danny looked up and smiled. Max reached for her hand. She settled onto the floor beside them and let their presence ground her.

The assembly had gone exactly as it needed to. She'd asserted authority without apology. Had made it clear that her children were off-limits, that her space was her own. And Damien had stood there silent, backing her with his presence without trying to speak over her.

The elders would regroup. Would search for new approaches, new ways to undermine what she was building. But for now, she'd drawn a line they couldn't cross.

Outside her door, Damien would be heading to his own space. Not trying to enter hers, not pushing for access he hadn't earned. Just accepting what she gave and working to prove he deserved more.

The door stood unlocked on the inner bolt. A small gesture, maybe. But sometimes small gestures carried the most weight. Sometimes they were the foundation everything else built on.

And Felicia was starting to believe that maybe, just maybe, she could trust those foundations to hold.
