Hiding My Twin Pups From their Alpha Dad

Chapter 119

Ch. 119 / 120 May 04, 2026

The message arrived encrypted. Short lines of text that made Felicia's blood run cold. Cult leadership preparing open move. Timeline: imminent.

She crossed to the closet and pulled out the document bag. Her hands moved fast but controlled, checking contents. Passports, cash, contact lists. Everything she'd prepared for this exact scenario.

"Damien." Her voice carried through the door.

He appeared within seconds. Felicia didn't waste time on context. "Move to protected zone. Today."

Damien's expression shifted immediately into tactical mode. "Which corridor and what order?"

His tone stayed professional, asking for operational details. Felicia grabbed paper and sketched the route quickly. "West wing, third floor. Order: children first, then bag, first aid kit, then me."

Damien repeated it back word for word. "West wing third floor. Children, bag, first aid kit, you."

Saying it aloud so she could verify he hadn't added his own interpretation or changed priorities. Felicia nodded once and moved to the children's closet.

Clothes came out in organized bundles. She sorted them into bags with practiced efficiency. Two outfits each, extra socks, one comfort item per child. Danny's stuffed bear. Max's toy truck.

"Shoes on. Now." She kept her voice calm but firm.

Danny and Max scrambled to put on their sneakers. No questions about why, no resistance. They'd learned to respond quickly when she used that tone.

Danny's small voice broke the efficiency. "Is this forever?"

Felicia crouched to his level. "No."

She didn't elaborate. Didn't promise timelines or guarantees. Just gave him the essential fact. Danny nodded, accepting what she gave without pushing for more.

Damien stood near the wall. He didn't interrupt or add reassurances. Didn't say "I promise you'll be safe" or make commitments he couldn't guarantee. Just nodded to both children, acknowledging their fear without feeding it.

Felicia handed him one of the packed bags. "Carry this. But not ahead of me."

"Understood." Damien took the bag and positioned it over his shoulder.

They moved into the corridor. Felicia led with the children flanking her. Damien fell into position behind them, covering their backs without trying to take point. His presence created a barrier between them and anything approaching from behind.

The corridor narrowed at one point. Stone walls closing in, forcing them into single file. Felicia felt Damien's proximity, the space between them measured in inches. But his hand didn't come up to touch her back or guide her forward. He just stayed close enough to protect without crossing into contact.

She noticed. Filed it away with all the other observations.

The new wing opened before them. Felicia entered first, her eyes scanning everything. Layout, exits, vulnerability points. She moved directly to the door and tested the lock. Her fingers wrapped around the handle and pulled. Once. Twice. The mechanism held solid.

Damien positioned himself to the side. He didn't offer suggestions or point out what she should check. Just gave her space to do her own security assessment.

Satisfied, Felicia turned to the children. She guided them to the bed and helped them settle. Water bottles came out of her bag. "Drink. You're safe here."

Her voice carried absolute conviction. Whatever her own fears, she wouldn't let them bleed into the children's perception. They needed certainty, and she would provide it.

Damien spoke quietly from his position by the wall. "Mom did everything right."

One sentence. Not a speech about her competence or an attempt to gather sympathy by praising her in front of the children. Just simple statement of fact.

Felicia looked at him. Really looked, assessing the statement for manipulation or hidden agenda. Found only honest acknowledgment.

"Today you also did right." The words came out even and measured.

Recognition. Conscious and deliberate. He'd followed her lead without trying to assert authority. Had carried what she told him to carry, stayed where she told him to stay, not touched her when space was tight.

Damien didn't smile broadly or try to capitalize on the approval. His face stayed neutral, but something shifted in his eyes. "Thank you. I heard."

The response landed clean. He wasn't demanding more praise or fishing for additional recognition. Just accepting what she'd given and leaving it there. No pull on her to offer more, no expectation of escalation.

Felicia felt the absence of pressure. The way his gratitude didn't create obligation or try to leverage this moment into something bigger.

She moved to the nightstand and laid out the first aid kit. Organized the contents with careful hands. Then turned back to Damien.

"You'll be on duty in the corridor. Not in the room."

"Accepted." Damien took one step backward.

The movement confirmed his words with action. Establishing the boundary physically, showing he understood where the line was drawn. Felicia watched him retreat to the doorway.

She closed the door. Main lock engaged with a solid click. Her hand moved to the inner bolt, that final layer of separation.

She pulled her hand back. Left it open. The pattern continuing even in crisis, even in new space. A controlled signal that trust was holding despite upheaval.

Felicia returned to the bed and sat between her children. Danny leaned against her side. Max's hand found hers. They were scared but steady, processing the sudden change with resilience she was proud of.

The day replayed in her mind. The message, the packing, the move. Each step executed with precision. And through it all, Damien had functioned as support rather than authority. Had followed her lead, carried her burden without trying to claim ownership.

Today they hadn't fought each other. Hadn't competed for control or undermined each other's authority. They'd acted as a team.

The realization settled over her with weight. Not comfortable exactly, but significant. This was different from the relationship they'd had before. Different from the power struggles and resentment.

This was coordination. Two people working toward the same goal with clear roles and mutual respect for boundaries. Not perfect, not without tension. But functional in ways that mattered when crisis demanded action.

Outside the door, Damien would be taking up position. Creating the security perimeter she'd defined. Not hovering at the threshold or trying to insert himself into their space. Just holding the line she'd asked him to hold.

The cult was moving. Threats were escalating. But here in this protected space, with her children safe beside her and the door locked on her terms, Felicia felt something she hadn't expected to feel again.

Partnership. Built on boundaries respected and authority acknowledged. On words that didn't demand more than was given. On physical restraint that held even when space was tight.

Maybe that was enough to build on. Maybe that could hold when everything else was shaking.
