Hiding My Twin Pups From their Alpha Dad

Chapter 104

Ch. 104 / 120 May 04, 2026

Felicia saw it the moment Danny walked into the main room. His hand pressed against his stomach, fingers digging into the fabric of his shirt. His face was pale, almost gray in the morning light.

"Not hungry." His voice came out thin and strained.

Felicia stopped everything. The schedule she'd been planning, the security review, the morning routine. All of it vanished in an instant. She crossed to him and guided him to the bed with gentle hands.

"Sit." She pressed her palm to his forehead. His skin was warm but not burning. "Water and rest. That's what happens now."

Danny's eyes were glassy. He nodded without arguing, which told her more than words could. Her son never gave in this easily.

Movement in the doorway. Damien appeared, but he stopped at the threshold. His body stayed outside the room, respecting the invisible line. "What happened?"

His tone was careful, stripped of urgency that might escalate the situation. Felicia appreciated that more than she'd admit out loud.

"Danny's sick." Her voice came out level, controlled. "I need the first aid kit and the pack doctor. No panic."

Damien left immediately. No questions about what she thought was wrong, no suggestions about what to do. Just gone to execute her instructions.

Felicia grabbed the water glass from the bedside table and helped Danny take small sips. She watched his breathing, counting the rhythm. Shallow but steady. Max sat on his own bed, eyes wide with worry.

"Sit quietly, baby." She used her softest voice for Max. "Your brother needs calm."

Max nodded and hugged his stuffed wolf tighter. Good boy. Both of them were being so good.

Damien returned within three minutes. He set the first aid kit on the nightstand without a word. Then he backed up and lowered himself to the floor by the wall, making himself small and unobtrusive.

He didn't reach for Danny. Didn't try to check his temperature or ask how he felt. Just stayed there, available but not interfering.

A knock came at the door. The pack doctor entered, bag in hand. Felicia stood and moved to block his path to the bed. "Examination here. With me present."

Her tone left no room for negotiation. The doctor nodded his understanding. Damien's chin dipped once in support, backing her authority without adding his voice.

Felicia noted that. In a crisis, he could easily have taken over. Could have used the emergency as justification to push her aside and handle things. But he didn't.

The doctor approached the bed slowly. Felicia stayed right beside it, her hand finding Danny's. His small fingers wrapped around hers, holding tight. She squeezed back, anchoring him.

The examination took ten minutes. Temperature check, lymph nodes, stomach palpation. Danny flinched once when the doctor pressed too hard, and Felicia's grip tightened protectively.

Damien stayed on the other side of the room. His eyes tracked the doctor's movements, not Felicia's face. He wasn't watching her react, wasn't studying her for weakness or emotional openings. Just monitoring the professional doing his job.

The doctor straightened and closed his bag. "Likely exhaustion and stomach upset. Nothing acute, but he needs rest and observation."

Felicia nodded once. "He stays in the wing. Under my watch."

"Agreed." The doctor handed her a small bottle. "For nausea if he needs it. Half dose for his age."

Damien spoke from his position by the wall. "Understood."

No "but what if," no "shouldn't we consider hospitalization," no second-guessing her decision. Just agreement.

The doctor left. The door clicked shut, and suddenly the room felt smaller. More intimate. Felicia lowered herself onto the edge of Danny's bed, never releasing his hand.

She looked at Damien. He met her eyes, waiting. "You can stay in the room. But no talking and no touching Danny without permission."

"Yes." One word, clean and simple.

He shifted to sit on the chair by the wall instead of the floor. His hands rested on his knees, palms down, completely still. The position was open but contained, present without crowding.

Felicia turned her attention back to Danny. His eyes were starting to droop, exhaustion pulling him toward sleep. She smoothed his hair back from his forehead, the gesture automatic and soothing.

The room settled into quiet. Not the tense silence of conflict, but something softer. Damien's presence didn't press against her awareness like it usually did. Didn't demand attention or create friction.

She could have sent him away. Part of her wanted to. But the larger part recognized that this was different. He was being useful without being intrusive.

"Warm blanket." Her voice came out as a whisper, barely audible. A small request, testing the boundaries.

Damien stood immediately. No questions, no hesitation. He left the room and returned within a minute, a thick fleece blanket folded in his arms.

He didn't bring it to her. Instead, he draped it over the back of his chair and sat back down. Making her come get it if she wanted it. Letting her maintain control of even this tiny interaction.

Felicia stood and crossed to the chair. Her fingers wrapped around the soft fabric, and she lifted it free. The blanket was warm already, like it had come from somewhere heated. She carried it back to Danny and spread it over him carefully.

Her eyes found Damien's again. The contact lasted maybe two seconds, but it felt longer. His expression was neutral, but something lived in his gaze. Something careful and restrained and entirely focused on not pushing.

He didn't move closer. Didn't use the moment to bridge the gap between them. Just let it exist in whatever space she'd allow.

Felicia broke the eye contact first and sat back down beside Danny. Her son was already asleep, breathing evening out into a deeper rhythm. She kept her hand on his arm, feeling the steady rise and fall.

Max climbed off his bed and padded over. "Is Danny okay?"

"He will be." Felicia pulled Max onto her lap. "He just needs rest."

Max settled against her, thumb finding his mouth. She held both her children, feeling their weight and warmth. Damien stayed in his chair by the wall, a silent guardian who knew better than to intrude.

Hours passed like that. Danny slept. Max dozed against her shoulder. And Damien sat without complaint, without shifting restlessly or trying to make conversation.

The sun moved across the floor, marking time in golden stripes. Felicia felt the tension slowly drain from her shoulders. Not because everything was fine, but because she could handle this. And because, for once, she didn't have to handle it completely alone.

That realization should have terrified her. Should have sent her walls slamming back up. But exhaustion was setting in, and she was too tired to fight against something that felt like help instead of control.
