Hiding My Twin Pups From their Alpha Dad

Chapter 100

Ch. 100 / 120 May 04, 2026

Felicia woke with certainty. Today would bring impact. She felt it in her bones, that instinct honed by years of survival.

She gathered the children immediately. No running in corridors. No playing outside their wing. Danny and Max sat on the bed where she'd placed them.

"Today you listen only to me." Clear instruction. No ambiguity. She checked her bag. Documents. Phone. Emergency supplies. Everything ready.

A knock at the door. "Can I enter?"

"Yes." Felicia's voice came out sharp.

Damien stopped at the threshold. His posture was alert, professional. "Security sees activity. Southern passage."

Work tone. Just facts. Felicia's jaw tightened.

"The children stay here." Her response came harsh. "You work Plan B only. The one we agreed."

Damien confirmed immediately. "Plan B. Internal corridor. Storage. Then stairway?"

Asking to verify. Making sure no confusion existed. Felicia nodded once.

"Correct." She turned to her comm. "Guards at my door. Hold position. Do not leave post."

Damien lifted his radio and repeated her words. "All units. Guards at Felicia's door maintain position. Her order. Acknowledge."

Making sure everyone heard. Making it clear this came from her authority, not his. The confirmations crackled back.

The signal intensified. Voices from security channels reporting movement getting closer. Felicia grabbed both children's hands.

"Now." One word.

They moved fast. Felicia kept Max and Danny close, their small hands gripped tight in hers. The storage room ahead had no windows. Secure. Defensible.

Max started making small sounds. Fear building toward crying. Felicia pulled him against her side, pressing him close. His face buried in her shirt, muffling the noise.

Damien moved ahead of them. He reached the door first and pulled it open. Then he stepped aside. Back against the wall. Creating space for Felicia to pass through first.

Not pulling her elbow. Not directing her body. Not taking control because the situation was dangerous. Just opening access and deferring.

Felicia noted it. Respect maintained even in risk. Even when instinct probably screamed at him to take charge.

They entered the storage room. The door closed. Darkness wrapped around them until Damien activated a small emergency light. Soft glow barely pushing back shadows.

Time passed in silence. Danny stayed perfectly still. Max's breathing hitched but he didn't cry aloud. Felicia held both children and waited.

The radio crackled. All clear. False alarm or test probe. The immediate danger had passed.

Felicia didn't release the children immediately. She waited for second confirmation. For verification that security was stable. When it came, she finally loosened her grip.

"Out." She spoke quietly to the boys.

They emerged into the corridor. The packhouse had returned to normal operational state. No breach. No invasion. Just threat assessment and response.

Felicia turned to Damien. "I want the event log. Now. And the access panel list."

Her tone came out harsh. No "when you have time" or "later is fine." Immediate accountability required.

Damien pulled his tablet from his jacket. Handed it to her without delay. "Here."

Not "give me a minute" or "I'll get it." Just immediate compliance. Felicia scanned the entries. Times. Names. System touches.

"Someone inside accessed the system again." Her voice dropped cold. "I won't pretend this is coincidence."

Damien stood silent. Waiting. Felicia looked up from the tablet.

"Two more people. Isolation. But only after I confirm." Clear boundary. Her decision, not his.

"Marcus." Felicia named the first. "Thompson."

Damien lifted the radio. "All units. Marcus and Thompson to isolation. Effective immediately. No exceptions."

His voice stayed even. No threats added. No personal emotion bleeding into the order. Just clean execution of her directive.

They stopped in the corridor. Facing each other outside her door. The crisis had passed but adrenaline still hummed in Felicia's veins.

"You executed my plan." Her voice came out quieter. "No heroics. No domination."

Acknowledgment. Recognition of restraint under pressure. Damien met her eyes.

"This is your control." Simple statement. "I respect it."

He didn't step closer. Didn't try to use the moment of shared crisis to manufacture intimacy. Just stood at appropriate distance and accepted her framing.

Felicia allowed pause. Let silence stretch between them. She didn't turn away first. Didn't break the connection or create distance.

Because he wasn't pressing. Wasn't using the eye contact as opportunity. Just existing in the moment she'd permitted.

"Today." Felicia spoke carefully. "Closeness doesn't sound like threat."

The admission cost something. Vulnerability wrapped in honesty. Damien's expression stayed neutral but something shifted in his eyes.

"But that's not a promise." She added it immediately.

"I know." Damien accepted without argument.

Then he stepped back. Half a step. Deliberate movement creating distance. Reinforcing the boundary himself rather than waiting for her to impose it.

Felicia watched him do it. Noted the self-imposed limitation. The way he protected her comfort even when she hadn't asked.

She turned and opened her door. The children needed reassurance. Needed normal routine restored after the disruption.

Her hand went to the locks. The main bolt slid home with solid click. But the inner bolt stayed open. Not engaged.

Controlled signal. He'd earned proximity. Earned being nearby. But not inside. Not yet. Maybe not ever. That remained to be determined.

Felicia moved into the room and closed the door. Through it, she could hear Damien's footsteps. Moving away. Not lingering. Not trying to extend the moment.

Just accepting what she'd given. Acknowledging the small increase in trust without demanding more.

Inside, Danny and Max waited. She sat with them and started talking about simple things. Redirecting their focus from fear to normal activities.

But part of her awareness stayed on what had just happened. The way Damien had deferred during crisis. How he'd repeated her orders so everyone heard her authority. The doors he'd opened and stepped back from.

Progress measured in moments of pressure. In choices made when instinct urged control. In respect maintained even when circumstances offered excuse to override.

Not forgiveness. Not reconciliation. But perhaps the foundation those things required. Trust tested under fire and holding. Boundaries honored even in danger.

Felicia's breathing steadied. The tension in her shoulders gradually released. Outside her door, the packhouse continued its routines. And somewhere in that structure, Damien worked through post-incident protocols.

Following her directives. Respecting her control. Learning that some things couldn't be rushed or claimed. Only earned through consistent demonstration.

Two people navigating crisis without falling into old patterns. Testing whether cooperation could hold when stakes were highest. Building something fragile through choices made under pressure.

One controlled response at a time.
