Hiding My Twin Pups From their Alpha Dad

Chapter 113

Ch. 113 / 120 May 04, 2026

Felicia settled the children at the table. Puzzles spread before them, colorful pieces mixing together in cheerful chaos. "Don't leave this room."

Danny nodded seriously. Max was already reaching for edge pieces. Felicia closed the door but left it slightly ajar, enough to hear their voices if they called.

She turned to the secure comm unit and switched it to encrypted channel. Her fingers moved with practiced efficiency over the controls. "You listen. Don't interfere."

Damien stood near the wall. "Yes."

He moved to a chair positioned to the side, not at the center of the room. Not claiming the dominant position or inserting himself into her space. Just there, present but secondary.

Felicia pulled up Lucien's contact and hit the call button. The connection clicked through, and she activated the speaker. "I need the name at the top."

Her tone was hard and direct. No pleasantries, no warm greeting. Lucien's voice came through after a pause.

"Felicia, I should probably explain the context first and—"

"No caution." She cut him off cleanly. "Facts only."

Silence for two beats. Then Lucien's voice came back, stripped of its careful hedging. "Elder Matthias. He's been coordinating through intermediaries."

Felicia grabbed her notebook and wrote the name in capital letters. "MATTHIAS." She said it aloud as she wrote, cementing it in the room.

Her pen stayed poised over the paper. "Who confirmed this?"

"Two sources. Marcus gave up the name under interrogation. One of my contacts in the northern territory independently verified."

"When was he last seen?" The question came out cold and precise.

"Three days ago. Eastern boundary, near the old mill."

Felicia wrote that down too, her handwriting sharp and controlled. "Evidence?"

"Marcus provided meeting locations and times. My contact tracked his movements and confirmed them against Marcus's testimony. The pattern holds."

"Route." One word, demanding specifics.

"He uses the river path to avoid main roads. Comes in through the western gate during shift changes."

Felicia repeated it aloud. "River path. Western gate. Shift changes."

Her voice made it concrete, transformed Lucien's information into established fact. Beside her, she could see Damien in her peripheral vision. His jaw was tight, muscles working beneath the skin. But he didn't speak. Didn't add commentary or try to take over the conversation.

The silence from him was deliberate. Controlled. She watched his hands stay still on his knees, not forming fists or showing aggression toward the other Alpha helping them.

"Anything else I need to know?" Felicia kept her eyes on her notes.

"He has at least two more in the pack working for him. We don't have names yet."

"Get them." Not a request. A command.

"Understood."

Felicia ended the call. Her finger hit the disconnect before Lucien could add anything personal, before he could ask to speak with her privately. The line went dead, and the office fell quiet.

She turned to Damien. He was already looking at her, waiting. "Elders are the threat. Not background noise."

Damien nodded once. "They'll try to isolate you through pack protocol. Force formal assemblies where they control the agenda."

His voice stayed even and professional. Felicia took one step closer to him, testing. Watching to see if proximity would make him try to dominate the space.

Damien stayed exactly where he was. "I'm not interested in their etiquette."

The words came out cold and flat. Felicia moved another half step, bringing her into range where most Alphas would have shifted or adjusted to claim territory.

"I'll adjust the pack to your safety." Damien's voice dropped quieter. "Not the other way around."

Felicia's eyes narrowed. "Promises don't work."

"I know." His response was immediate. "Only actions."

No attempt to defend himself or argue that his promises were different. Just acknowledgment and acceptance. Felicia pointed at the map on the wall, and Damien started to lean toward it.

Her hand shot up. "Stop."

He froze mid-movement. Then stepped back, putting distance between himself and the map. No pause to question why, no irritation at being checked. Just immediate compliance.

"That's the right reaction." Felicia's voice came out quieter than before.

Damien accepted the observation without trying to turn it into something warmer. Didn't ask if she was pleased or try to extract praise. Just stayed where he was, holding the boundary she'd established.

Felicia moved to the desk. Her hand came down on the edge near where his rested. Not touching him, but close enough that the space between them felt charged. She didn't pull away or flinch.

Damien's fingers stayed motionless. He didn't shift his hand closer or try to bridge the gap. Just let the moment exist in whatever form she was comfortable with.

"I'll wait." His voice was barely above a whisper.

The words hung between them. Not a demand, not pressure. Just a statement of intent. Felicia didn't say yes. Didn't confirm or encourage. But she didn't say no either.

She pulled her hand back and walked toward the door. The conversation stayed open, unfinished but not severed. Behind her, Damien remained at the desk.

The corridor was quiet. Felicia's footsteps made soft sounds against the stone floor as she returned to her wing. Inside, Danny and Max were still working on their puzzles, small fingers fitting pieces together.

Felicia closed the door and locked it. Then she leaned against the wood and let herself breathe. The call with Lucien had gone exactly as she'd needed it to. Information delivered, boundaries maintained, control never questioned.

And Damien had sat there silent. Had watched her coordinate with another Alpha without inserting himself or trying to assert authority. His jaw had been tight, tension visible in the set of his shoulders. But he'd kept it contained.

That was new. That was something she could work with. Not jealousy weaponized or used to guilt her. Just acknowledgment that it was hard for him, paired with the discipline to not make it her problem.

Elder Matthias. The name sat heavy in her mind. An elder coordinating against them, using pack tradition as cover for his moves. The kind of threat that worked through formal channels and ancient protocols.

But Damien had just told her he'd adjust the pack to her safety. Would break with tradition if that's what it took. And she was starting to believe he might actually mean it.

The pieces were moving on the board. Elders pushing, Damien holding boundaries, and her claiming space she'd never thought possible. The ground was still unstable, still shifting beneath her feet.

But maybe instability wasn't the same as falling. Maybe it was just the feeling of things changing into something new.
