Axles POV
I wasn't entirely sure how my mother found out about Vanessa being pregnant, yet I wasn't surprised as I did have my doubts. I knew my mother and I knew she only took interest in things that would be beneficial to her. Me having a pup wouldn't do that, or at least I didn't think it would. I was due to become Alpha of the Gemstone pack in the next month as my father wanted to retire, so any pups I had would take over from me, and without sounding to harsh my mother would be long gone by the time they came to rule. I had so many questions swirling in my mind that I was oblivious to the fact Hector had been trying to get my attention, it wasn't until he flicked the back of my ear making me jump that I noticed.
"Where's your head at mate? Been saying your name for like five minutes" I glared at him through the rear-view mirror, but he only chuckled at my reaction.
"Don't do that it's annoying" my eyes slowly diverting back to the windy dirt road in front. The only trouble with living where I did meant I had to use all these horrid old roads to get there, and in my new car it wasn't great. My father had tried talking me round to getting a Hummer of Range Rover, he said a four-wheel drive would be more practical. My stubborn arse wanted something sleek and sporty, though now I was beginning to regret not listening to him.
"Alright sorry, what's going on with you? You've been distracted and distant since yesterday and now your mum knows about Vanessa, you're rushing to get to her like a bat out of fucking hell. Talk to us Axel maybe we can help" I looked back into the mirror Hectors large green eyes that could have me submitting with one look remained fixed on me, through the bond I could feel the sincerity of his words. He wanted to help, he wanted to ease the tension that had been building. I looked to Athena who sat beside me she had remained quiet since we left, she was fiddling with the sleeve of her jacket while chewing her bottom lip. This was something I had come to realise she did when she became nervous.
"My dad is worried the whole thing; he wouldn't tell me more just said I needed to get back asap. Something is going on and I need to know what it is. Athena what's wrong if you chew that lip anymore you won't have any left" I chuckled softly as she pouted.
"Nothing" her voice raising a decibel higher than normal, if she was trying to hide her nervousness she was failing miserably.
"Athena come on, I opened up so it's only fair you do to" her eyes darted to me her lips parting slightly at the shock of me using the guilt card against her.
"Oh, nothing honestly I'm fine, I'm just being stupid"
"Now I really want to know" Hector chimed in as he leaned forwards his arms going behind our headrests. Hector looked older than he was with his sharp jaw and sculpted body, so sometimes when he spoke it reminded me how much younger he really was.
"I'm worried what Axel's dad will think of me ok. See it's stupid now can we please just drop it" Athena stopped her fiddling and looked out of the window. How could she possibly be worried about what my father thought of her? She wasn't only stunning she was smart, strong, loyal and kind. She was the whole package; you couldn't ask for a better mate and woman to become your Luna.
After finally convincing Athena that my father would approve of her, she seemed to relax slightly. The only thing I was worried about however would be how my father would take the news that I wasn't only mated to two people, but that one of them was a man. I may have accepted myself as bisexual, but I hadn't ever allowed my parents to know about that side of me.
Pulling up at the border to the Gemstone pack I was surprised to find no guards at the outpost. It was the only way in and out, so it was to be manned at all times. I told Athena to wait in the car, something didn't feel right but I couldn't put my finger on it. Stepping into the outpost there was no sign of patrol, the coffee that sat on the side was stone cold. I pressed the button to open the gates before climbing back into the car.
"Keep your eyes peeled, somethings wrong" I gripped the steering wheel so tight my knuckles began to turn white as I slowly drove through the town towards the pack house, my eyes scanning the woods as I drove. Out of nowhere three wolves came barrelling into the road just missing the bonnet of my car. Skidding to a stop I recognised one as a pack warrior, he was being attacked by two slightly larger wolves. Jumping from the car I felt my hand heat as a fireball formed in my palm. Without hesitating I threw it directly at the grey wolf that was on my warriors back turning it instantly to ash. Now it was a fair fight, my pack warrior was able to quickly finish the other wolf off. Though the intruder was bigger, my pack are highly trained their skills yet to be out matched.
"Alpha, thank the goddess you're back the pack is being attacked by wolves loyal to your mother. They refuse to back down until she's free. Your father is held up in the pack house preventing them setting her free" His voice echoed through my head alerting me to the seriousness of the situation. I knew my mother had people to do her bidding from time to time, but wolves from another pack was a slap to the face for my father. Thanking him I watched as he ran back towards the centre of the town. Hopping back into the car I told my mates what was happening and putting my pedal to the metal I raced home.
Hectors POV
Watching Axel use his elemental magic seriously impressed me. I had heard of elementals growing up but had never met one until Axel let alone see one use its power. The way his fireball turned the wolf to ash shocked the hell out of me, but it was cool to watch. My mate was a total badass and I couldn't be prouder of him. Axel skidded to a stop out front of the Gemstone pack house sending shingle flying everywhere before getting out and shifting. I had never seen his wolf before and was in total awe at the sight of him. He was massive with black fur, however he had tinges of orange and red through parts of him which I guess must be an elemental thing. Athena wasn't as shocked as me, so I knew she had already met Thor. Wolves everywhere were tearing each other from limb to limb as they fought to win. I wanted to help Axel, to put an end to this circus but how could I. I didn't have the foggiest of ideas which wolf belonged to his pack, and which didn't. Some wolves thought with decorum, they didn't stalk their opponent no, it was as if they had calculated their moves before they made them putting a swift end to their lives. There were a few rogues in the stray which were clearly not his but with the outsiders, though it still wasn't worth the risk of me attacking a pack member. I told Athena to lock the doors, I wouldn't put it past someone to try and take her as leverage. Together we sat and watched as our mate moved and fought. He was quick, strong and surprisingly skilled. The way he took down each wolf without sustaining an injury was crazy. Out of the corner of my eye I saw a man covered in blood and dirt creeping towards where Axel's wolf Thor was fighting. In his hand he held a knife which would likely be silver as it shimmered in the light. Without hesitating or second guessing what I was about to do I unlocked my door and shifted quicker than ever before. Bryant used all his speed to get to the man before he could use his weapon. Just as he raised his arm to deliver the blow I snarled as I jumped on top of him taking a bite from his shoulder.
"Hector NOO..." I heard Athena's screams as my body began to numb. With the adrenaline coursing through me I hadn't noticed the knife intended for Axel now protruded from my chest. Thor's big black and orange wolf grabbed the man ripping his head clean off throwing it away like a piece of garbage. "Hold on Hector don't worry help is coming, stay with us Hector. Don't you dare me" Athena sounded as if she were miles away which was strange being she was kneeled beside me. Bryant gave me control forcing us to shift back as the knife in our chest remained in place, the location of it plus the silver preventing us from healing. I felt the sparks from Axel's touch as he picked me up, my eyes begin to blur as they rolled into the back of my head. The last thing I remembered was hearing a voice I didn't recognise tell Axel not to remove the knife.
