Axels POV
Convincing Johnson we would hold our position and wait for reinforcements was easier than expected. I told him to return to his position and await further instructions. William was right, he had been compelled. Giving him a head start myself and Jake followed him keeping distance between us. He led us straight to the warehouse my mother had been holding up in. Sending a mind link to my pack warriors and Jake to his we waited for them to come, not that they were too far away. My mother had infiltrated my security employees, using them now in her fucked-up games, once this was over I would without a doubt be eliminating my entire staff even though it would mean starting again. I had seen enough, this needed to end, and it needed to end quickly.
The strike we would make against the evil, those with cold, uncaring, and dead hearts had been long, long overdue. We set about creating an ambush for they who always expected to remain at the top of the chain, we had one rule; not a single person down there was to survive this. Not a sole had expected us to bring the fight here, into the very heart of their operations. Yet here we were, slyly making our way through their defences while they slept. Each room we entered bunk beds were lined up against the dull cracked walls, three maybe four to some rooms. Not every bed was occupied which worried me, where were they? It was more than risky but what other choice did we have? These monsters pledged their loyalty to a mad woman, a woman set on sacrificing her own grandchild all in the name of power. A child that thanks to the indiscretions of her mother was now being refused a gift of her own.
"Are you sure you want to do this?" Jake had tried to talk me out of what I planned to do several times as we surveyed the area. He could try all he wanted, but his time would have been better spent elsewhere. The anger and rage festering within me needed a release, and if it didn't happen soon, I would self-destruct. "Fine but be careful. The door on the other end of the room is locked, this is the only way out" I nodded in understanding, it was now my turn to cause havoc. Closing my eyes, I focused on the blistering heat that lived inside me, always lurking just beneath the surface. Slowly pulling it forward my skin tingled as the flames danced along my arms before spreading out into the room. I was amazed at how calm I felt the moment the fire begun. The sounds of their screams when they realised it was too late was like music to my ears.
For a moment I lost myself, forgetting why I was even here. Focusing on the flames as they followed my every movement, ensuring no one survived. Even when their hearts stopped beating and their flesh melted away, I couldn't stop. I had held it in for so long scared of what would happen had I truly pushed it to the limit. Melting the face off the rogue the night I met Athena was nothing compared to this. It was exhilarating and I honestly had never felt this free.
"Axel enough. Contain it before it gets out of hand" I knew who he was the man bigger than myself standing in front of me but couldn't place a name to his face. Shaking me, begging me to put an end to the raging inferno I controlled as the building came down around us. My skin heating burning his hands forcing him to let me go. "Axel think of your pup. She is here somewhere and if you lose control, you will kill her" pup? That's right I'm here for reason and this, this was it. My vision tinted green as Thor pushed forward, a snarl leaving us as the man refused to back down. Then suddenly everything went black. "Come on man get up" I opened my eyes, Jake stood there holding his hand down towards me. Taking it, he pulls me to my feet. I rub my jaw a dull ache forming under my cheek bone.
"What the fuck happened" I was confused, I remembered starting the fire, but everything after that was a complete blank.
"You lost control. William warned this could happen, you should have taken his warning and listened. He said if you hadn't learned to control it then using this much as once could destroy you. You may be an elemental Axel but that doesn't mean it can't harm you, especially if you harness to much at once. Fire is known as the dark element for a reason. We can discuss it later though, for now let's get a move on. A fire that big isn't going to go unnoticed" Jake was right, within minutes the fire alarm came roaring to life. The red light flashing over the entire compound while the high-pitched noise hurt our ears.
Wolves and witches fled to the scene trying to contain the fire while the vampires stood back and watched. This was our chance, so with inhuman speed we entered the main building. The moment we entered the main building Thor automatically became restless. Vanessa's scent was strong, she was here. Not wanting to waste time, we ditched Jake and followed her scent down a series of corridors, each one dimly lit. Eventually I came across a wooden door with a selection of different locks. Using an enormous amount of strength, I was able to bust the door open. Though what I saw shocked me causing my heart to plummet into my stomach.
"Axel...yo...you came" Vanessa was chained to a bed. The bones in her face more prominent where she had lost weight. My eyes bulged when they trailed to her stomach. Her very big, very pregnant stomach. How was this possible? She shouldn't be showing this much she was only a month gone.
"What the fuck happened Vanessa?" Breaking her chains she whimpered, it was clear she had little to no strength remaining. Helping her sit up tears formed in her eyes as her thin frail hands cupped my face. She closed her eyes as she bought her lips to mine. The urge to pull away was strong, but Thor needed her comfort. As much as I hate to admit it, I did to. I hate Vanessa, that hasn't changed. The sight of her still makes me sick to my stomach, but she is also my mate; for now, at least. Thor was snarling and trying to push forward, but I couldn't let him, he would have healed Vanessa whereas I wanted her to die. "What th..." Jake appeared in the doorway his words stuck in his throat as he noticed his daughter bleeding out onto the bed. "Damn it Axel. We need to stop the bleeding" why he bothered I don't know; she was due to be executed anyway. At least this way she would go pain free and in her sleep.
"Jake she's not breathing" my words a trembling mess with the prospect of losing my pup. Jake calmly and gently took her from my arms and by her ankles held her upside down. I growled at his actions, but he just clicked his tongue in return. My entire body was shaking as I fought back the tears, fought back the power I would lose myself too once again. Jake stuck his fingers in her mouth and then she cried. It was ear shattering, but it was beautiful.
