Athena's POV
I wake as if it's an emergency, as if sleeping had become a dangerous thing. My heart beats fast and there is a buzzing in my brain that sends electric pulses through my body as it replays the last few scenes from before blacking out. I had been bitten by a vampire then the witches, they were chanting but I couldn't understand what they were saying, I knew it was Latin because of the dialect but I didn't know the language. Sitting up and looking around I had been placed back in my room. Had they not learned I wouldn't stay put? Not when my pup was the target. Walking to the doorway I stopped in my tracks when I hear the muffled voices of both Hector and my mum. I tried to listen in but only managed to pick up fragments of their conversation. What I heard sent a pang of pain to my heart. Axel had been intimate with Vanessa before knocking her unconscious. The worst part was that he done a bodge job of a c-section to remove the pup after finding out her pregnancy had been magically sped up. I knew the mate bond between them was forced, the same as I knew it was growing. After all that's what happened once mated and marked, the bond would grow until you couldn't deny each other anymore. But to hear he acted on it hurt.
"Athena?" My mum's voice was laced with worry as she noticed me standing there silently observing their conversation.
"Where is he?" I was angry and needed answers.
"Baby you need to hear everything before storming down there. Come and sit" walking over I sat beside her where she pulled me too her. Her hug was strong, almost like she was scared I would run and disappear. "What Axel did, he knows it was wrong and let me tell you he has been given a beating. Your grandfather was going to kill him, that is until he checked his mind and was able to hear everything that was going through Axel's mind. Axel saw that Vanessa was ready to birth the pup, she wasn't in labour however she would have soon. He made the wrong choice by mating her yes, however... and this is a big however. With the mate bond pulling on his deepest darkest desires and his wolf craving his mate, he used mating to his advantage. I don't condone his actions in the slightest, but it worked. She let her guard down. That's when he bit into her mark sending her to sleep and delivered his pup. He planned to leave Vanessa for dead to bleed out and break his bond to her, but your father arrived and forced him to save her"
"What! Why would they save her? After everything why couldn't they just walk away and leave her?" I was angry, some towards the knowledge of him being with Vanessa again but mostly that even after everything she still got to live. I wanted her dead. I was a firm believer of everyone deserves a second chance, but not her. She deserves to suffer.
"Because she is to stand trial Athena. You know how our politics work, you had to train in them. We may not like there rules, but we must abide by them. You go against the council, and you know what will happen" Hector shot me a look that showed how he too was annoyed by my sister still breathing and also hurt by our mates' actions. We wouldn't have felt the pain of them together, not as if he had slept with a stranger because they were marked, regardless of the fact neither Hector nor I were a part of that bond.
"So where is Vanessa now?" My body was trembling. I knew he would give in to the bond eventually, everyone does which is why it needed to be removed. His mother clearly wasn't going to do it, so I would even if I condemned my own soul in the process.
"She's in the hospital. She is under close observation with guards out front. There is one more thing. Axel's mother has given us an hour to hand you over. She is coming Athena and this time she won't be leaving"
"How do we stop her?" At this point I was willing to try anything.
"We have theory about that. You guys were mated for a reason. At first, I assumed it was because of who your wolf is, but now I think there was another reason entirely. The power you each hold is strong but imagine what you could achieve by combining them. The three of you a united front, your powers fusing and creating something entirely knew. Either Hector of Axel should be the one to yield it though because of your pregnancy. We aren't sure what effects having that amount of power channelled to you would do to the pup. And if I'm being honest, I wouldn't like to find out" after telling my mum I needed to have a think I left the room. I had one thing on my mind and that was Vanessa. An hour that's all we had until Axel's mother would return, but that's fine because it wouldn't take long for what I wanted to do.
I made a beeline for the hospital. It was as my mum had said, there were two extremely well-built men standing guard. One was bald and had tattoos running down his neck and arms while the other had blonde hair that was tied back in a ponytail. Each of them however looked equally intimidating. As I approached, they bowed their heads, they knew I was their alphas mate so let me inside no questions asked. Stepping inside I locked the door; this was happening, and no one was going to stop me. For once, I was going to put my own needs first. And what I needed was to be free.
"Well look how far you have fallen. You look awful" I couldn't help the satisfaction I felt at seeing her like this. Her blonde hair no longer held that bright golden glow, her eyes dull and tired. She had lost so much weight over the space of a few days. I guess the spell Sheila cast took a toll on her body.
"You really think that? I can't look that bad otherwise Axel wouldn't have fucked me" she was clasping at straws. She knew he only did it to take the pup, she just didn't want to admit it. "Where is my pup?"
"It doesn't matter. You're never going to meet her. You're never going to see anyone else ever again for that matter"
"What are you talking abo..."
"I'm talking so do not interrupt me again" I couldn't contain my anger, before I knew it my hand stung leaving and a handprint had been left on Vanessa's cheek. I actually scarred myself, this had been the first time in my entire life I had taken control of a confrontation between the two of us. "You have tried to take everything from me. You have beat me both mentally and physically. You made my entire life hell. I ran away was tortured by rogues, because of you. I even attempted to take my own life. Again because of YOU" my heart rate had skyrocketed as my anger increased. Taking a step back I took a deep breath, this stress wasn't good for the pup I was carrying. "Vanessa I'm pregnant and because of everything you have done he or she will inherit every gift that was meant for yours. It will be the most powerful being to walk this earth. An alpha of alphas. So, I win. I got the guy, the rare, gifted wolf, and the special pup. You, you're going to die a painful death and my face will be the last thing you ever see" Vanessa looked shocked to the news of me being pregnant, and as I took a step towards Vanessa a smile played on my lips at how she flinched away from me. Taking one of her arms I snapped it repeating the process with the other and her legs. Her screams were loud, the nurses having heard her now trying to get in. Tears streaming down my sisters face as she took in how serious I was. "Goodbye sister" Suddenly a crash sounded behind me.
"Athena no!" I turned to see both my mates and my parents standing in the doorway. I wasn't going to back down, not this time. Turing my attention back to a sobbing Vanessa I stuck my hand into her chest and squeezed her heart until it burst, the blood leaking between my fingers. Removing my hand, I wiped the blood onto Vanessa's nighty and walked out of the room past everyone with a smile on my face. The old Athena was gone and now I wasn't going to stop until my family was safe. One bitch down, one to go.
