He's My Mate

Chapter 57

Ch. 57 / 60 Dec 14, 2025

Athena's POV

Magic zapped through the air. The more they used the harder it became to breathe. Their standoff was still going, each of them proving just how well skilled they were. The heat in the room was becoming unbearable as all their spent energy made the air heavy. Axel had created a sword made of fire, he slashed and swiped it towards his mother but even for an older woman she was quick. I wanted to help him but the more he channelled the weaker I became. I may hate him at the moment, but I didn't want him to die. No. I wanted to make him suffer, to grovel and then I would decide whether or not I wanted him.

I was snapped back to my surroundings when Axel cursed. His own flame sword embedded in his stomach. He tried to pull it out, but it wouldn't budge, his mother laughing as he struggled.

"Silly boy. I have more power than you could possibly fathom. Each one of my ancestors passed their own power down when they died and as a result, I'm the strongest yet. Throw in the perks of being the high priestess and your nothing compared to me" Hector was quick on his feet launching himself at Axles mother his claws digging into her back. As she screamed, he was thrown backwards barrelling into my parents. My heart rate picked up as I began to panic. That familiar feeling of darkness beginning to rear its ugly head.

'Relax my child you are stronger than you know. Venus can guide you to the path of victory. Let her in. Let her show you your full potential' just as quick as her soft whisper came it left. The moon goddess, my great grandmother her voice expelled the dark clouds that were once again forming in my mind, replacing each one with a tinge of hope.

Closing my eyes and taking a deep breath, I listened. Venus came forward but not taking control. We merged together as one, something I didn't think possible. Our movements as natural as the waves in an ocean or the breeze on a cool summers evening. Our hearts syncing in rhythm with each other. Our legs and arms lengthened, our face became long, and fur sprouted over every inch of my body. Catching a glimpse of my reflection I looked like a monster. Half wolf half human. We had shifted into an entirely new being, one that meant our pup wouldn't be harmed by the morphing of completely transforming. Seeing Axel's skin begin to grey as his blood continued to soak the floor and Hector struggling to regain his footing, a completely new feeling sent cold icy shards up my spine. A feeling that scared me more than taking my own sisters' life. My fur stood on end and my blood ran cold. A feeling that would only be possible had I loved both of them. And I did, even dick wad. I loved him something I now knew. Seeing him like that, dying in front of my very eyes it pinched and twisted my heart. I needed him. I loved him. I loved them both. I wouldn't forgive him immediately, that I knew with certainty. I would still make him sweat, make him regret his volatile actions and only when he would break would I reaccept him.

'Athena, we have got this. For our mates. For our family and for our pup we will end this bitch' Venus's words spurred me on giving me a whole new sense of confidence, a confidence I had never had before.

Together we launched at the high priestess, her back had completely healed. It hadn't shocked me in the slightest. She wouldn't have come here without a protection spell. In our new form we towered over her leaving her shaking in the very boots she wore. She had never seen something like me before and now I'd make damn sure she never would again. Grabbing her by the throat just as she went to chant, we threw her up to the ceiling letting her fall back to the ground. As we went to pick her up again one of her wolves jumped at my side. Using our heightened senses, we heard him before we saw him. Swinging to face the wolf it skidded trying to stop only it was too late. Picking it up we snapped it's back in half like it we're nothing more than a mere toothpick. Letting it fall limply to the ground I kicked it aside continuing my path to the witch. I heard Axel gasp but knew he was ok. Out of the corner of my eye I could see him on the ground, my grandfather and Henrik working together to heal him. He was safe and now this bitch would have my full undivided attention.

Hector's POV

Everyone had heard the stories growing up. The stories that told of a beast, half human half wolf. Until Athena shifted that's exactly what we all thought they were... stories.

"Hector come on we have to get out of here" The injury I had caused the high priestess caused enough damage that she wasn't able to uphold the barrier spell trapping us within the pack house. Alpha Jake and Luna Angel were trying to escort each of us out safely, even the rogues that helped the witch.

"I can't! we can't leave Athena here" My eyes hadn't left my mate. I just couldn't tear them away from her. She was truly nothing short of amazing. Gone was the multicoloured tips of fur that covered her wolf. Now her fur was the darkest black, darker than the colour of her own father's wolf.

"Do not make me command you Hector" And I knew he would.

"Hector's right. She's our mate we cannot leave her" Axel was healing slowly, but the loss of blood seemed to have done something to his priorities; let's just hope it was permanent.

"Look at the size of my daughter. Her wolf... she's unique. There hasn't been one able to shift like that in hundreds of years. She will be fine, trust her. Trust her wolf" Alpha Jake had a point Venus wouldn't have allowed nor would she have assisted Athena if she didn't think she could win. Axel refused to leave, he said he had a lot of making up to do and this was how he would start.

Once outside the rogues were forced to shift back into their human forms and restrained. Alpha King William said he would personally see that each one got their just deserts. They brought one of the most ruthless alphas to his knees, mutilated his daughter and persisted to bring death to his granddaughter and her unborn pup. Their punishments would most certainly be death and by the murderous glint in his eyes, it wouldn't be a quick one.

Hearing a vicious snarl I ran to the door, barging past everyone in my path. Axel had shifted and was limping while Athena was struggling to get off the ground, holding her head while the witches' arms were outstretched as she smiled. What the fuck did I miss? Bryant wasted no time in taking control. He knew without being able to re-channel his mates we wouldn't stand a chance, but one thing we could do was act as a diversion. Running with as much speed as he could muster, he knocked the witch to the ground having caught her off guard. Athena... Venus... whoever was momentarily in control was off the floor and back on her two legs. She was fucking huge. Never in my life did I think I'd ever see a Lycan, let alone be mated to one. No longer in the pain of whatever the witch had done taking massive strides she picked up the witch and sank her jaws into her shoulder. The witches thrashing stopped as her body went limp. Athena dropped her to the ground blood pooling at her feet. Her head tilting towards the ceiling she let out an almighty roar before shifting back and returning to her small human frame.
