Axels POV
The moment Hector drank from the bowel I felt a tether stronger than the mate bond snap into place. He was now connected to me in every possible way. I was pissed off immensely, I had told him not to do this and by the sounds of it, Athena had too. Harnessing too much power at once when your not used to it can be dangerous in more ways than one. Some the power kills, their bodies unable to control and contain it, while others become power mad like my mother's bloodline. Hungry for more that soon channelling wouldn't be enough. They would want a permanent fix, whereas the channelling would only last while our blood was in his system. This meant he would only have twenty-four hours before the spell was over; that's if he could survive.
"How do you feel Hector?" Jakes voice held a worried tone, he had watched him grow from a boy to a man. If something happened, it would be heart breaking for him to tell his parents.
Hector didn't answer, instead stuck his arm to the side allowing flames to form encasing it entirely. I watched as he turned his head to the side, only this time his other arm glowed. He was getting a feel for our gifts.
"Hector?" Athena had moved to his side, her hands cupping his face seemed to bring him out of his daze.
"Hmm yeh" a look of complete confusion on his face as he looked between us. "What?" I moved to walk towards him when Athena stuck her hand out to stop me. I could feel through the bond she didn't want to be near me at the moment. How could I blame her? I had been a complete bastard since the day we met. I had slept with her twin both before and after my mother cast her spell. I had not only knocked her sister up but allowed her to mark me. I should have listened to my gut instinct and not my wolf. I wanted to end Vanessa and the pregnancy while Thor refused to let me. He overpowered me each time the thought came to mind.
"How do you feel?" Athena's voice was smooth, she sounded as though she was calm, but her emotions told me otherwise.
"Strong. It's weird. I feel angry, my blood boiling however my heart and head are calm. It's like both your gifts are fighting to reign but when moulded together they mellow out. I can't explain it, but it worked."
"Hector be careful. It's going to be addictive to use and if you give in it will consume and overwhelm you" I needed him to understand that playing with this kind of power wasn't a joke. It has serious consequences if misused.
After a short while my mother's cackle echoed off the walls as she walked through the corridor. A wicked smile on her face as she spotted Athena. Without thinking I took a protective stance in front of her. She may not want me near her, but she would just have to deal with it. I certainly wasn't letting my mother touch her.
"Oh, come now son this is pointless. I gave you an hour to say your goodbyes. Now your time is up. Athena if you will..." my mother becoming frustrated extended her arm in our direction waiting for Athena to walk around me and give herself up. "Come now girl don't be stupid. I will destroy this entire place along with those inside. Think of your mates and family. Do the right thing"
"Don't listen to her Athena. You walk and I will drag you back" I didn't need to look at her to get my point across. She would be able to tell through the tone of my voice and through the bond that I meant every word.
"Have it your way then" my mother clicked her tongue in sheer disappointment. If she thought it would be as easy as that she was in for a shock. Portals began to open around us, wolves stepping through. Angel and Jake wasted no time in shifting waiting for the enemy to make the first move. Hector stepped forward and my mum just shook her head.
"Sending a boy to fight a man's battle. Tsk tsk tsk Axel, haven't you learnt by now. How disappointed your father would be to see this. It's a good thing he's gone, this would certainly have left a stain on his precious reputation. The notorious Gemstone Alphas son letting his young mate fight for him" amusement filled her eyes as she imagined what my father would have said, and no doubt the beating that would have followed.
"You have no right to speak of him. It's your fault he's dead. It's your fault Axel marked my sister and it's your fault she's dead" Athena pushed around me she was furious. Her eyes glowed bright blue, something they always did when Venus was close to the surface. "You were supposed to raise him to be a man with dignity, a man that did the right thing. Instead, you broke the child you bought into this world. Using him for your spells, forcing him to do whatever you pleased. I know Axel is responsible for his own actions after getting his rune, but how did he ever stand a chance at choosing correctly. Your not a mother you never was" she was standing up for me, but why? I had done nothing to warrant it.
"Girl you know nothing. Your soul is dark, you have endured suffering, suffering those others couldn't even fathom. I will end your suffering. You would finally know peace and with that of your child. Now I will not ask again. Come here now!" My mother was on the verge on snapping. She was desperate to get her hands on the child she didn't even know the gender of. Though to go through this it made me wonder if it would be another girl. A pang of pain emitting in my chest as I thought about the new born baby I left behind. I wanted to keep her, to hold her of course I did. However, she would always be a reminder of the one person that aided me in destroying my relationships with my true mates. I'm not dumb, I know I played the biggest role. A pretty girl flattered her eyelashes and that was it. It just helped to pretend I was doing it solely because my mother wanted me to, and not for my own selfish reasons. Though had my mother not told me to make Vanessa mine, I would have taken Athena home myself the first time I ever saw her. I would have gotten to know her and then I would have made her mine. Athena my true fated mate. Things however became complicated when Athena and Hector allowed me to mark them; it was then I realised the mistake I had made. I shouldn't have stayed. I should have left and not marked them until Vanessa had been dealt with. I should have been strong enough to end her life before the bond had a chance to grow.
"She's not going anywhere" Hector's eyes flashed between black, red then blue and just for a second, I could have sworn I saw fear in my mother's eyes. She hadn't expected us to do this, not in a million years. Hell, I didn't want him to do this, but now seeing her reaction, I knew it had to have been the right option. Hector raised his hand, a flame appearing on each of his fingertips. He chuckled deeply as he let them rise before falling then once again rising.
I must have missed something because my attention was drawn away from Hector to find Jake fighting with a large brown wolf. Angel taking the opportunity to jump on its back tearing into its flesh. A high-pitched whimper as it collapsed to the ground with a thud. I wanted to shift but Thor had been silent since Vanessa died. Instead, I'd have to make use of my element. Forming a fire ball, I threw it at another wolf accidentally singeing some of Marie's fur. It amazed me that even being a hybrid she was able to shift. Others could only partially shift and some not at all.
