Leah's POV
"And you're also a loud, loud person, Jorah," Lucas said in a low voice.
I lifted my head and saw Lucas looking down at me with a half-smirk on his face.
For a person whose throat almost got slashed by his own father, he looked way too happy. And I knew he was happy because he was holding me in his arms.
I immediately stood up, shaking my fur and trying to walk away, but he caught me.
"Where do you think you are going?" He taunted me, holding me in his giant hands while sitting up.
"Urrrgh!" I turned my head, trying to bite him. Wolves don't like being caught. It was almost a reflex.
But on that day, I ended up holding his hand in my mouth, scratching my teeth against his long, slender fingers.
He tasted so good. I thought to myself. If I was in human form, I would definitely be blushing.
"Alpha! You're still alive! Oh, my Goddess! I haven't killed you! Great!" Jorah clapped and jumped up while clapping his hands.
"And praise the Moon Goddess for me not being killed by my Beta," Lucas mumbled, putting me on his lap, lowering his head while examining me, like a little boy checking if his precious toy was broken after dropping it accidentally on the floor.
Urg. It was weird being flipped upside down like this like a doll.
Jorah handed Lucas some clothes and helped him to put them on in a hustle. I loved the way the pants dangled on his hips like that.
"Did you get hurt?" Lucas asked with genuine concern, lifting my forefeet and checking them carefully.
"I didn't get hurt. Not a bit." I tried to retrieve my feet, but I failed.
"Really? But where does the blood on your feet come from?" Lucas asked.
"It's your blood," I argued. "There's not a single scratch on my feet. All four of them."
Lucas had a playful smirk on his face.
"I'm not sure about that. I'm going to take you upstairs to do a thorough check." He said and carried me up in his arms when he stood up. Jorah handed him some clothes and helped him to put them on in a hustle.
"What?! Let go of me!" I struggled, trying to jump off him.
The thought of being taken upstairs by my ex-mate and examined thoroughly abhorred me.
But again, my runaway attempt failed.
"Call Doctor Eliant Jafar right now and let him take my father to his clinic. Make sure he is well-rested before being released. Do not let him get anywhere close to me and my mother." Lucas said to Jorah while walking.
He regained calm and authority in his commanding voice.
"I've already made the call, Alpha." Jorah wiped off the tears on his face and said.
"That makes you a heck of a Beta, Jorah," Lucas said. Then, he stopped as if he had thought of something.
He leaned forward to Jorah and asked him in a low voice with a frown, "You didn't try to kiss me before I woke up, right?"
Jorah burst into laughter and shook his head, "No, Alpha! But it was close!"
I giggled in my mind as well.
My ex-mate had a sense of humor. That was something new to me.
Upstairs. Inside the giant sleek bathroom.
Lucas was running us a hot bath.
I wished he could put me down on the floor, so I could secretly run away.
But no, he didn't let go of me even for one second.
He wore me like a pendant in front of his chest.
"How long are you still going to stay in wolf form?" Lucas sat on the edge of the bathtub, staring at me, and said in a tender voice.
In a steamy bathroom like this, his handsome face looked stunning.
I almost got an organism when he simply stared at me like this.
The reason behind my remaining in wolf form is three-fold.
First, I knew exactly what he wanted to do to me. He wanted to finish what he had left in the back alley the other day. So, as long as I stayed in wolf form, I would be safe... unless, well, he shifted into wolf form again.
Second, my wolf kind of liked staying with him and keeping his company like this. That was something very surprising because my wolf had the mindset of a teenage girl, who couldn't be more than 13 and she equally hated everyone in my life.
Third, urgh, if I changed into human form right now, I would be completely naked. And somehow my being naked with him in a steamy bathroom just sent off a very dangerous message to him.
"What?! You don't like me in wolf form?!" My wolf shook her fluffy white fur and placed her forefeet on Lucas' shoulder.
"I haven't seen your wolf before. You're so tiny. You look like a little fox, standing up like a little marmot." Lucas said affectionately.
"It's not fair," I said, pressing one of her forefeet against Lucas' face to force him to look away from me.
His look was too handsome and distracting.
"What's not fair?" Lucas asked.
"It's not fair for you to come back and take advantage of me like this after all these years. You have already rejected me. Now, what are you going to do? Taking me back? I'm not ready to forgive you!" I asked.
Lucas held my claw in his giant hand and kissed it. Then, he lifted his head and gazed into my eyes.
"I'm not asking for your forgiveness. I'm asking for a second chance."
Then, he took a pause and asked in a low voice, "Is it too late to take you back, my love?"
My heart skipped a beat. I felt gripped by his sudden display of affection.
As I heard the words of love pouring out of his lips, I felt my cheeks flush with warmth. My shyness made me glance away, yet the bold, brave part of my heart made me want to lift my eyes and meet his gaze. Happiness shone through the subtle curve of my lips.
"It's never too late to do anything right, but it's just not fair." My wolf mumbled and buried my nose into his hair, repeating herself until her voice faded into his dense, raven black hair.
