Leah's POV
"Leah, you're being a very naughty girl," Jalin whispered while looking directly into my eyes. The expression in his eyes was as cold and sharp as surgical knives.
I tried to move my arms, but I couldn't, because my wrists were locked by his hand.
I panicked and struggled because the wolf in me panicked as well.
Like every time she screwed up something, she immediately backed off and let me take over.
"Let go of me..." I whispered, trying to take back my arms from his grip.
Jalin recognized the human sanity in my voice but still refused to let go of my arms.
He tilted his head and asked in a cold, steady voice, "Have you calmed down? Are you ready to talk?"
I avoided his inquiring eyes by turning my head away, biting my lips in shame, and nodding slightly.
Jalin let go of my arms and sat on the side of the sofa.
I tried to climb up, but my head was spinning and the next thing I realized, I was leaning against his shoulder.
He sighed and wrapped his arm around my shoulder, providing me with support.
"That stripper guy... He's your second chance, isn't he?" Jalin asked.
"He's not a stripper guy. He's got a name." I corrected him.
"So he's a stripper guy with a name," Jalin shrugged.
"Why do you have to be so sarcastic about everything? Finn's my friend and he needs help." I frowned.
"He's a scam who has frauded you with that son of a bitch Sak Doyle and he needs to be killed. I can't believe that he absconded with your money and you're still defending him. How much have you paid for him? 200,000 dollars?"
"You're so cheap, Jalin," I said in a low voice.
"You know, you and your brother keep saying things like that and I absolutely have no idea of what you mean," Jalin looked very upset.
"You hate everyone I've dated," I grumbled.
"Leah, you know it's not true. I equally hate every single male that came into your sight. Protecting you is my basic instinct. I can't do anything about it."
"I can protect myself," I said.
Without waiting for him to explain why I needed to be protected by him, I added, "I found my second chance and you should say congratulations to me."
"Last time you said the same thing to me, a son of a bitch took you away from us for 5 years," Jalin said indignantly.
My heart softened instantly.
Throughout his life, Jalin seemed to be trying to prevent me from all those bad boys. Yet bad boys seemed to be the only kind of boy that I had got in my life.
"Real love is supposed to be priceless," I whispered.
"Only what you've got isn't called love. It's called blindfolded arbitrary. How could you let go of him just like that, knowing that he's your second chance? Don't you know that a werewolf can't survive without their mate? 30 minutes after you said goodbye to him, you wanted to seduce the first man you saw in your sight. Do you know how weak you'll become in the future? How could you do things like this to yourself?" Jalin looked furious.
"Finn has all the reasons in the world to be with his family."
"I'm not saying that they don't have the right to take him away. I'm just reminding you that you have yours as well." Jalin said.
Before I could say anything, he stood up, walked toward the fridge, and took a bottle of drink out of it.
Then, he removed the lid and passed it to me.
"What is that?" I took it and frowned.
Jalin replied, "It's a magic potion invented by your second brother Leo. He got the inspiration of inventing a cure to cure the seemingly incurable sadness of Lucian after the loss of his Luna. Think of it as a bottle of rum without alcohol but with lots of love. It will calm you down and help you survive the board meeting. Drink it. Go to the meeting room. Woo them with your new business plan in Mediland. And leave the rest for me."
I took a sip of the cold liquid in the bottle. There was a bitter-sweet taste, but I immediately felt much more relieved.
This is cool. I thought to myself. Leo is a talented chemist with a big heart. And that's why he creates things like this to help people to relieve their pain and distress.
I lifted my head up and drank the whole bottle down in the blink of an eye.
As the last drop of liquid was gone from the bottle, my whole body started to be straightened.
It felt like every single fiber of my muscles was refreshed and strengthened.
Werewolves were not like human beings. When we were away from our mates, we were stricken in love. But other than that, we were able to be fit. We were immune to almost all common human diseases (except mental diseases) and we weren't able to be influenced by any kind of energy drink.
That was why I felt so impressed and amazed by the magic portion that Leo had made.
Feeling empowered, I jumped up from the sofa.
"This is great," I said enthusiastically, striding forward. "I'm ready to work now and I can see sound."
"Wait, wait, wait..." Jalin covered his forehead and said. "The door is this way."
I turned around and cruised out of the room with Jalin walking next to me.
"Are you going to bring Finn back to me?" I asked him while glancing around. I felt so confident and assured as if I owned everything in this building. Then, without getting an answer from him, I continued, "You're going to bring Finn back to me at all costs. I absolutely don't care what you do. I need to see him in the lake house after the board meeting."
Jalin sighed and took out his phone, scrolling the screen.
"What are you looking for?" I stretched my head toward his screen and asked.
"Someone to shout at," Jalin replied and opened the door for me, putting his mobile next to his ear.
Gean was standing next to the door. He looked overwhelmed to see me all refreshed and energetic.
"My Goddess, you're here, Miss Lewyn! I got this close to holding Lucian's hands," he whispered.
I burst into laughter. Gean looked delighted and confused by my abnormal high spirit.
"Go ahead and take Leah to the board room, Gean," Jalin waved at me and said.
Gean nodded and showed me the way to the grand hall. While we were walking away, I heard Jalin's voice in the distance, "No, don't do anything till I get there."
