Goodbye, My Mate

Chapter 34

Ch. 34 / 291 Aug 06, 2025

Jalin's POV

Leah stared at Jorah in surprise. She put down the pen in her hand and said, "Jorah, you do know that we can print another copy of that, right?"

"Then I'll eat them again!" Jorah raised his voice. I could see tears circulating in his eyes and I knew he must have been terrified.

"You can't divorce him, Leah. I have never seen him so crushed like this... I mean, both physically and mentally... not even when Basil passed away. Leah, I don't know shit, but I know one thing for sure - If you divorce him today, he's going to kill himself. If he kills himself, I will have to kill myself, because, again, I don't know shit, but I'm sure whatever shit happened in his life, it's at least 90% my fault. So I'm not going to let you divorce him. Not on my watch!"

I rubbed my temple and said, "Jorah, stop being a child. This is Leah's life. You have no right to interfere or threaten Leah like this."

Jorah ignored me and kept on going, "Leah, I've grown up with Lucas and I'm not blind. You're the only good thing that has ever happened in his life. He's in pain but he doesn't know it. Yes, he doesn't give a shit about anything and does things in his own shitty way, but that's because he's never been told there's another way. You can't blame him for not being informed. And it's my fault that he's not being informed! I should have told him what really happened to me in the past, but everyone told me to keep my mouth shut. It's my fault. I am a coward! Blame me! Leah, you're the only one who can save him from his misery. Please don't give up on him like this."

Leah looked doubtful. Of course, she would be doubtful. Unlike Lucas, her heart wasn't made of stone.

I held her in my arms and said, "Don't believe him, Leah. This is just his dirty trick. He does shit like this to win your sympathy. He's trying to manipulate you..."

Jorah didn't wait for me to finish my sentence before he tore his shirt, exposing his bare chest in front of me. Then, he took out a dagger, handed it to me, and grabbed my hand to hold the dagger against his chest.

In despair, he stared into my eyes while bursting into tears.

"Jalin, you can kill me right now, because if you don't, whenever I see more paperwork delivered to our doorstep, I will eat them. You know me. I can't do anything right in my life. But this time, at least I can do this one thing right for my Alpha!" He cried out loud.

He cried so hard that I almost believed it was genuine.

"Let's go, Jalin. It's been a long day and I'm exhausted." Leah said.

"But, Leah..."

"If you're not coming with me, I'm going by myself." She waved her hand and walked off.

Looking at Leah's back, I sighed.

I turned my head toward Jorah with my hands still holding the dagger against his bare chest.

"You know that I can stab you with this dagger and walk away right now as if nothing happened," I said.

"Yes, you can. But you won't," Jorah smirked with tears still rolling down his cheeks. "That's the difference between you and me, Jalin. I won't do bad things because I don't have the ability to do them."

I frowned and swung the dagger. It flipped a few rounds in the air before finally landing in my hand steadily. The tip of the dagger scratched Jalin's chest, leaving a long, shallow cut on his skin.

I put the dagger back into its sheath on Jorah's belt and pointed at his chest.

"This is for you to have something to brag about in front of your Alpha. Next time I see you manipulating Leah like this, I will use the same dagger to slice your chest open and take out your heart if there is still one."

"Do you want to slice my chest open right now? Because you'll see it's bleeding." Jorah wept, wiping his tears with the back of his hands.

25 years have passed. He still wipes his tears like the little boy when I met him for the first time on the dumpsite.

Fuck all this. I thought to myself, striding out of the room to catch up with Leah.

Jorah's POV

"Did she sign the papers?" Lucas asked me as soon as I walked into his bedroom.

My chest is cut open with blood pumping up like fucking fountain and the only thing he cared about is if his wife has signed their divorce papers.

I'm not complaining here because that's just the way it works with this Alpha-Beta relationship, but still.

"Did you see any signed papers around?" I shrugged, rubbing my crew-cut hair while rummaging through all the drawers to look for a band-aid.

Unlike powerful elite werewolves, I'm just a fucking ordinary wolf who doesn't have a remarkable feat of healing myself. So I need some band-aids to stop my bleeding before I pass out of loss of blood.

Lucas looked at me with confusion written all over his face.

"I ate them," I explained.

"What do you mean you ate them?" he asked.

"It means that I put them in my mouth and swallowed them down. I also told Jalin that if he sends more copies of the paperwork to us in the future, I will eat them all. So I'm sure next time he will print out the paperwork in Wolfsbane ink," I further explained.

"Oh. Good. So Leah's still my wife. Great." Lucas struggled to stand up from bed.

He looked like a pile of shit. He didn't care about me at all, and he tried to stand up. I was fucking bleeding to death and I had to hold him in my arms to support him.

Story of my life.

I don't know why men have to get married to a woman who makes their life miserable, but anyway, Alphas are twisted mysterious creatures. They do unpredictable things to make their lives eventful and miserable. Then, they thrive against all odds, only leaving their Betas to wither and die.

I mean, seriously. I have never, ever seen a happy Alpha in my life, and man, I've met all of them.

"Could you please stay in bed, Alpha?" I asked while holding him in my arms.

"No," he replied.

Of course, he would say no to everything that I proposed.

"And may I ask why you insist on standing up, Alpha?"

"To get this." He mumbled, pulling a first-aid box from one of the drawers.

My heart immediately softened.
