HIS JOB

Ch. 279 / 312 Apr 03, 2026

The next morning, Courtney went to Angela's room and gently pushed the door open after a knock to announce her entry. She found Angela and Kerry curled up together on the bed, still fast asleep. From the looks of it the two sisters seemed to have reconciled and renewed their bond. It wasn't the expected scenery, but she smiled at them happily. The exhaustion of the previous night had clearly taken its toll on both. She walked to the window and pulled the curtains open. The soft morning light filtered through the curtains and reflected on the two sisters. Courtney shook her head at their dedication to the sleep and approached the bed quietly. So, she sat down on the bed, beside them, softly calling out their names. "Angela... Kerry... wake up. You two sleep like pregnant women". She nudged Kerry like an enemy but patted Angela softly on her leg. Angela stirred first, blinking as she slowly sat up, her eyes red and puffy from the tears of the night before. Kerry followed shortly after, rubbing her eyes and stretching. "Wow, what time did you two go to bed last night? Let me know before I judge". "3am". Kerry yawned. "Doris called just before I came to check on both of you, she wanted to know if we got to the right address". Courtney said and turned to Angela. "Angela, how are you feeling this morning?" She asked softly. "Thanks to you and Kerry for taking care of me and the kids". Angela said dryly and sat up with an aching throbbing in her head. "What happened? Why did you come back home drunk?" Courtney asked. "Antonio moved on, that's all". Angela smiled in pain trying not to start another episode of heartbreaking grief. "That's because he is yet to recover his memory right?" "Why does it matter? He made his choice. He said he is not interested in his past with me or the Monteros. He has a new life and a better one ". Kerry and Courtney exchanged surprise glances. "Okay, the Antonio I know will never say, he is not interested in you at least, I know he adores you Angela". Courtney replied. "Well sadly that Antonio is gone and there's Diego, a total opposite". "We need to go back and talk to Antonio. He can't just abandon Junior, even if he's in a new relationship, and he needs to remember you. That's also very important." Angela quickly shook her head. "I.... I didn't tell him about Junior," she confessed in a hushed voice. Both Kerry and Courtney froze, staring at her in shock. "You didn't tell him?" Courtney asked, her voice laced with disbelief. "Why?" "Angela, if he knew about Junior, he might decide to stay with you, don't you think?" Kerry said softly. Angela looked down, her hands twisting nervously in her lap. "I know that ... .that's the reason I didn't mention Junior to him...(tears rolled down her cheeks) Kerry, I wanted him to remember me and come back because he loved me, not because he felt forced to stay for Junior... I didn't want him to feel obligated, or worse, resent me because of it." Kerry hugged her sister seeing she was on an edge to break down again. "It's okay...don't cry anymore, please". Courtney sighed, rubbing her temples as she processed Angela's reasoning. "Oh dear, I get it," she finally said, "but Antonio has a right to know. He's Junior's father, Angela. You can't keep it hidden forever. One day, he will regain his memory and...." "He had no idea about my pregnancy before the whole incident happened ". Angela sobbed in her sister's chest. Kerry sighed and turned to Courtney. "She really doesn't want to go". "What's the worst that can happen, let's pay him a visit, this time I will be right behind her". Angela's chest tightened with anxiety. "But what if he still rejects me even with you by my side?" she whispered, her voice cracking. "I can't go through that again, Courtney. I can't face him just to be turned away a second time." Courtney's eyes softened with understanding. She reached for Angela's hand and held it tightly. "You can do it Angela, let's try one more time for Junior's sake please." Angela's breath hitched as the thought of confronting Antonio again sent a wave of fear through her. "I can't... I don't think I can do it. I am sorry, but I don't want to get hurt again. To watch him confess his feelings for Hinata besides they are expecting a child." Courtney sighed deeply then glanced at Kerry. "Kerry, please stay here and take care of the house. I'll go to Antonio alone, but I will need the address." Before Angela could respond, there was a knock on the door, and Lia and Liya, the twins, burst in, still rubbing their eyes from sleep. "Mom!" Lia said breathlessly, "There are strange-looking men outside. They're wearing suits, and they look... scary." Angela sat up quickly, alarmed, while Courtney raised an eyebrow. "Men in suits?" she repeated, she stood up and headed for the window. When she peered outside, a smile tugged at the corner of her lips. "You mean those men?" The twins nodded. Angela and Kerry exchanged glances. "Is there a problem Courtney, who are they?" Angela asked nervously. "Nothing to be worried about, they are my bodyguards," she replied, amused. The twins' eyes widened in awe. "Bodyguards?!" Liya exclaimed, her voice full of excitement. "Like in the action movies?" Lia added. "Are you a celebrity?" Courtney chuckled, shaking her head. "Not quite, honey. Let's just say I have people looking out for me. It's like a family tradition". "Are you a princess then?" Liya asked. Courtney laughed out loud. "What? No! But our family is very popular in America." The twins exchanged glances, clearly thrilled at the idea of bodyguards, but Courtney's focus returned to Angela. She walked back to her bedside. "We don't have much time," she said softly. "I'll handle everything. Just give me Antonio's address." "I only have the address of his workplace". Angela replied. "Oh really, what is his job? A male stripper?" Courtney said. "A waiter". Courtney burst into uncontrollable laughter.
