Chapter 199

Ch. 199 / 281 Apr 07, 2026

"Ms. Chapman, you didn't hear anything, did you?" He prayed that she didn't hear anything.

"Well..." Marilyn smiled mischievously.

"I'm sorry, Mr. Munoz. I heard every single word."

"What?" Julian was so shocked that he shrunk by half. Marilyn was amused by his frightened look.

Julian felt her words fall heavily on his ears, numbing his soul.

He swallowed hard and took a deep breath. Then, he looked at Marilyn with a smile on his face, saying, "Ms. Chapman, could you just forget it? Just treat it as a spring breeze, and let it come and go as it does."

Julian didn't know why Marilyn was there.

He thought she was eating in the canteen at this time.

Julian was so helpless.

He was always unlucky.

Marilyn looked at him with a smile and teased, "Mr. Munoz, how could you forget what you just heard?"

She had long known that there was something wrong with Velma.

But Marilyn could only blame Zoe, who was willing to be used by Velma.

To be honest, Marilyn had not done anything wrong to Velma.

But Velma used such a mean trick against Marilyn.

And Velma did it in the canteen of the Lowe Group!

Was Marilyn wrong about what had happened to Malcolm?

They worked in the same company, so Marilyn would have to meet Malcolm.

"You're so funny," Julian smiled bitterly.

Marilyn smiled, "Don't worry Mr. Munoz. I won't take it to heart."

"That's good." Julian did not want her to take his words to heart.

Velma was very insidious and Marilyn was too simple. Julian was worried that Marilyn would suffer.

If Marilyn knew what Julian was thinking, she would definitely think that he was naive.

She looked simple on the surface, but in fact, she was scheming.

Marilyn smiled, "Well, I'm going back to the office."

As Marilyn was about to leave, Julian suddenly called out to her.

"Ms. Chapman, the International Fashion Show will be held tomorrow. As the design director of our company, you might seize the chance to have a look. The exhibition will be held for three days. I've prepared the ticket and booked the hotel for you. Sergio will send the ticket to you later."

Marilyn turned around excitedly and looked at Julian.

"Mr. Munoz, you're so efficient. I almost forgot about this matter. If you didn't mention it today, I would really forget it!"

Julian twitched his mouth. In Malcolm's eyes, no matter how efficient Julian was, he was still not good enough.

But Julian had everything ready in advance.

He had prepared the ticket and hotel for Marilyn and Malcolm.

"Thank you for your praise, Ms. Chapman. You are the first one to praise me," Julian smiled confidently.

Marilyn smiled gratefully, "Thank you, Mr. Munoz. I have to go." Marilyn had always wanted to go to the exhibition. Now that she had the chance, she wouldn't just let it go.

"Yes." Julian nodded.

After Marilyn left, Julian suddenly realized that the atmosphere in the office had become more oppressive.

He looked at Malcolm, who was holding a fork in his hand, looking gloomy. Julian knew Malcolm was furious and terrifying.

Julian glared at him and shouted, "Malcolm, why look at me like that? I know I'm handsome and charming, but I can't withstand your eager gaze."

Malcolm took a deep breath.

The fork in his hand almost fell to the ground.

Malcolm never thought that Julian would be so narcissistic.

Malcolm said word by word to Julian, "Julian, you are so disgusting!"

Julian chuckled, "Malcolm, I felt so honored that I would be able to disgust you once in my life. But I don't think I'm disgusting.

"It's not my fault. I didn't know that Marilyn would be here at this time."

"So, can't you just keep your mouth shut?" Malcolm looked at him with a sneer.

A hint of guilt flashed through Julian's eyes, but he still looked proud, "Malcolm, you can't say things like that. Aren't I keeping my mouth shut about your matter? Marilyn will find out sooner or later.

"It's good that she heard it now. At least she will be wary of Velma in the future."

Malcolm frowned slightly. He always felt that he had not protected Marilyn well.

It was his fault that he didn't protect others from hurting her.

"What about Velma? With your relationship with the Remington family, you will embarrass them if you fire Velma."

Julian was well aware of the stakes.

Malcolm said, "Velma doesn't have the guts. Keep your eyes on her these days. You're good at finding the faults of others. Don't let me down.

"And you have to be careful when Velma is around Marilyn. You must ensure that Lynn can escape unscathed!"

"I see. Look, you are the culprit of all these. These women are jealous because of you and turn against each other. And you will always be the one who can escape unscathed.

"The one who is protected by you is innocent, but she can't avoid being targeted."

After he finished, Julian looked at Malcolm meaningfully.

Malcolm pursed his lips and lowered his head slightly, lost in thought. He did not deny Julian's words.

As soon as he thought of the injuries Marilyn had suffered, Malcolm felt so painful.

Malcolm said angrily, "Buy the Chambers family's shares in large quantities. Lynn's sudden disappearance back then must be related to the Chambers family."

Julian leaned back on the sofa lazily, his hands resting on his head as he said awkwardly, "That's fine. But it's not easy to find out what happened back then. The heavy rain has scoured the scene clean of evidence.

"And Marilyn did not have the adoption record unless the Chambers family told us what happened that year, or we will never know the truth."

Malcolm looked at Julian with admiration. "Julian, you're getting smarter and smarter."

Julian mocked, "Thank you for your praise, Mr. Lowe!" He didn't want to waste any effort to investigate this matter.

And he couldn't find it out even if he wanted to. Julian didn't want to cause trouble.

It would be easier to let the Chambers family speak up themselves.
