Chapter 18

Ch. 18 / 97 Oct 17, 2025

"Rise and shine! Wake up and sort your mess of a life out!"

I groaned and pulled my covers up above my head. "I'm good."

"Get up, you have school. And you stink."

I forced my head out of my covers and glared at Blake who opened my curtains, flooding the room with sunlight. "Ow," I whispered and Blame opened the window.

"It stinks of alcohol in here," he said and walked over to me, ripping the covers away from me and exposing me to the cold air.

"You dick," I whined and rubbed my eyes. I forced myself to sit up and realised I was still in last nights clothes.

"You fell asleep in the car so I put you to bed," Blake explained. "You were pissed."

"I remember," I yawned and scratched my head. "Now piss off so I can get ready."

"You're welcome," Blake chuckled and walked out of my room.

I pressed my hand to my pounding forehead and groaned as I stumbled towards my bathroom.

Once I had showered I felt slightly better, but I was still hanging. I slowly got changed, throwing on a pair of faded jeans and a white crop top. I pulled on my knee high black boots, ran a brush through my damp hair and grabbed my bag off the floor.

Coffee was much needed when I entered the kitchen and I smiled at Carter who was sat at the table, scoffing his face with cereal.

"How was the party?" He asked through a mouthful and I poured myself some coffee and grabbed a spoon out of the draw. I sat down opposite Carter and shrugged.

"It was okay," I said and dunked my spoon into his bowl and helped myself to his cereal.

"You're lucky I like you or that spoon would be in your eye," Carter said and I laughed.

"I'm hungover, I want food," I said through a mouthful.

"There's a cupboard full of cereal over there," Carter said, pointing to his right.

"But yours is right in front of me," I smiled and ate another spoonful.

Carter chuckled. "Do you happen to know why Eli was so pissed when he got home last night?"

"Carter, there is this magical thing called alcohol," I said.

"No, angry pissed, not drunk," Carter said and I shrugged my shoulders.

"He's always pissy," I said.

"Thanks."

I rolled my eyes when Eli walked in and narrowed his eyes at me. "You're very welcome," I said and my eyes were drawn to his knuckles that were cut and bloody. "What happened to you?"

Eli glanced at his hands. "I had a fight with a wall."

I smirked. "That's not very smart, Mr Rising Star."

"Shut your mouth," Eli scowled and grabbed an apple from the kitchen counter with his cut hand.

"You need to clean it and wrap it up," I said as I ate some more cereal. "It looks pretty gruesome."

It did. Eli must've punched some pretty hard wall. His knuckles were covered in bloody cuts.

Eli shrugged.

I sighed and stood up. "Sit," I ordered and pointed to the chair I was previously sitting in.

Eli raised an eyebrow at me and I grabbed the first aid kit from a cupboard. "What?"

"Sit your ass down," I said.

"Why do you of all people want to help me?" Eli said.

"Because if your hands get infected I don't want to hear you whinging about it," I said. "Sit. Now."

Eli shrugged and sat down at the table. I pulled a chair up in front of him and put the first aid kit on the table. I took out an antiseptic wipe and grabbed Eli's hand.

"This might sting," I warned and dabbed the wipe over his cuts. Eli hissed and swore under his breath, but didn't complain as I wiped the blood and dirt from his knuckles. Some of the cuts were quite deep and I rolled my eyes when I realised he would need butterfly stitches. "Idiot," I muttered.

"Excuse me?" Eli said.

"I'm sorry, is your idiocy affecting your hearing?" I said, not looking up from Eli's hands.

"No, it's your bitchiness," Eli snapped and I searched through the first aid box for the stitches.

"This bitch is currently helping you so I'd either be nice or shut the hell up if I were you," I said and I could feel Eli's glare on me, but he didn't say anything more.

"You seem like you know what you're doing," Carter commented.

"Blake's punched enough things since I've known him," I said. "None of the boys know much first aid apart from him and it's quite hard to stitch up your own hands. So being the lovely person I am I sorted him out."

"You're the hottest nurse I've ever seen," Blake said, walking into the kitchen as I put the butterfly stitches on Eli's hands.

I rolled my eyes. "Shut up, Blake," I said and worked for a few more minutes before standing up, putting the first aid kit away and washing my hands. "You're welcome," I said to Eli.

"Thanks," he muttered and then stood up and walked out of the room.

"I'm surprised you didn't suffocate him with the wipe," Blake said casually and I raised an eyebrow at him.

"The thought crossed my mind," I said with a laugh. "Death is the easy way out."

Blake rolled his eyes and I put the first aid kit away. "How's the head?"

"Feels like I've been sat on by an elephant," I said and Blake held out his hand, revealing two white tablets. "What is it?"

"Paracetamol," Blake shrugged.

"Cheers," I said and took the tablets, swallowing them dry. "So, does Rob know about my trip last night?"

"If he did then he hasn't told me about it," Blake said. "I hope he does know."

"Ass," I muttered and Blake smirked.

"Daisy, I'm leaving!" Eli called and sighed, flipping Blake off and smiling at Carter as I walked out of the kitchen. I followed Eli out of the front door and got into his car.

There was silence as we drove and I noticed that we weren't driving in the direction of Noah's house. "Are we not picking Noah up?"

Eli clenched his busted fists on the steering wheel. "No," he said sharply and I raised an eyebrow.

"Somebody's touchy," I murmured.

"I'm not touchy!" Eli snapped.

"If you say so," I shrugged and Eli glared at me.

"Oh course you'd want to see Noah, you were loving acting like a slut and getting with him last night," Eli growled.

"Excuse me?" I gasped. "It was a game! I am not a slut! You can talk, Eli! I've heard girls talk about you at the Agency, you love a fuck and go, don't you!"

"You don't know shit about me!" Eli snapped.

"And I don't fucking intend to!" I yelled. "You have no right to call me a slut when you've done way worse, hypocrite!"

"Just shut the hell up," Eli snapped and I scoffed.

"That's what you say to the girl that just helped you!"

"I didn't need your help," Eli muttered and I rolled my eyes.

"No, because you're Mr Perfect and everyone loves you and you can never do anything wrong," I said sarcastically and crossed my arms over my chest. "Eli, don't talk to me, you're only making my head hurt more."

"Gladly," Eli growled and silence filled us.

The car was tense for the rest of the journey and I chewed on my lip as Eli pulled into the car park. When Eli cut the engine I turned to the door, but it wouldn't open.

"Eli, open the door," I said slowly and turned to look at him.

"Noah is going to be recruited," Eli said.

"No shit."

"Adam is going to want someone from you."

"He's going to be disappointed," I said. "Now let me out."

"You need suggest someone for recruitment."

"I haven't found anyone," I said sharply. "Rob knew I wouldn't bother with this mission."

"But you have," Eli said and I narrowed my eyes at him.

"No," I said sternly.

"I've told Adam."

"You did what!" I yelled. "What the hell, Eli!"

"They fit," he shrugged. "They fit the requirements."

"You're an asshole!" I exclaimed. "I won't allow it!"

"You don't have a choice," Eli said.

"Let me out of the car before I punch your face in!" I growled and yanked on the door handle. "Now, Eli!" I heard the clicking sound and I was out of the car as fast as my legs would carry me. I slammed the door behind me and sped away from the car.

"Whoa!"

I gasped when I crashed into a chest and hands gripped my arms and steadied me.

"Slow down, flash!" I looked up at Joey who was grinning at me and smiled sheepishly.

"Sorry," I murmured.

"Where you in a rush to?" Joey wondered.

"Anywhere away from Eli," I grumbled and sighed. "After I helped him this morning... Fucking twat."

"What happened?" Joey asked.

"I don't want to discuss that vile creature," I said and linked my arm with Joey's and started walking towards school. "I've already got a bad head and he's making it worse."

"Hungover much?" Joey laughed.

"Teeny bit," I chuckled. "You seem fine?"

"Don't get hangovers," he grinned.

"Who are you!" I said dramatically. "What powers do you have!"

Joey smirked. "I wasn't even that drunk," he said. "Do you remember much of it?"

"All of it," I nodded. "Hey, you still have my dressing gown!"

"It's at my house," he chuckled. "You can get it when you come over tonight?"

"Tonight?" I wondered.

"Yep, you are coming round mine to work on the chemistry project."

"And when did we agree on this?" I asked and cursed our chemistry teacher in my head. I hated projects, especially for a subject I already had a qualification for, not that Joey knew this.

"Just now," Joey smiled. "We're running behind and with your work ethic we need all the time in the world."

"I have a great work ethic!"

Joey just smiled.

"I can't, Joey, I'm grounded," I said as we walked into the school.

"And that stopped you last night?" He said. "I'm sure your brother would let you considering it's for schoolwork."

"What day is it?" I asked.

"Wednesday." We walked into chemistry a few minutes before the bell and took a seat in our usual place.

"Shit," I muttered. "I've got... A meeting tonight."

"A meeting?"

I pursed my lips and took my laptop out of my bag and placed it on the desk. "Screw it, they're useless meetings anyway," I said and arched an eyebrow at Joey. "I expect to be getting a lift to yours?"

Joey nodded. "One condition," he said.

"Throw it at me."

"You actually do some work instead of complaining."

I laughed and nodded. "You owe me," I said and opened my laptop. "Covalent bonds here I come!"

"Um... Daisy," Joey said and coughed. "The project has nothing to do with covalent bonds."

The class slowly filled up and I watched as Eli walked in out of the corner of my eye, laughing and joking about with each other.

He caught my eye and glanced at Joey before taking a seat behind us.

"You found anything?" Joey asked, referring to the Google search I was meant to make about The Bronsted-Lowry Theory.

"Give me a sec," I murmured and clicked on a random website. The screen suddenly went black and I cursed when the Agency's symbol appeared on the screen with large white writing underneath.

ACCESS DENIED.

"Fucksake," I muttered and shook my head. I was blocked from looking at a website about theoretical chemistry.

That was ridiculous.

"What the hell," Joey said and frowned at the screen. "I've never seen that before."

I heard a scoff from behind me and I span round to glare at Eli who was looking at the screen with a smug smirk on his face.

"It's gone," Joey said and I looked back to see the search page on the computer screen. "Strange," he frowned.

"Yeah," I muttered and narrowed my eyes at the silver band on my wrist. "Really strange."
