Chapter 24

Ch. 24 / 97 Oct 17, 2025

The car had been silent for ten minutes. Eli was stiff and tense and refused to look at me. I was growing impatient. "Okay, what the hell is wrong with you?" I said, breaking the silence. "You're acting even more pissy and angry at me than usual."

Eli glanced at me but didn't say anything.

"If anything I should be the one pissed at you," I carried on. "You're the one who fucked my face up and you told Adam about Joey."

"You punched me as well," Eli pointed out and I smirked when I saw the bruise on his cheek.

"That was perfectly justified," I shrugged.

"Was kissing my best mate?" Eli snapped.

I raised my eyebrows at Eli and laughed. "You're annoyed at me because I kissed Tom?" I said and shook my head. "Jheeze."

"How would you feel if I kissed Beth?" Eli snapped.

I shrugged. "Would you expect me to feel something?"

"So you wouldn't care?"

"Not one bit," I smirked and Eli scowled at me. "I can pretend if it would make you feel better," I teased.

"Fuck off," Eli growled and I chuckled.

"How's Hampson?" I asked after another silence.

"Stable," Eli replied stiffly. "You... Um... You saved his life, Daisy."

I raised an eyebrow. "I did?"

"The shot to his stomach was serious. He would have died from it if it weren't for you," Eli said quietly.

"Oh," I murmured. "It's times like these that I'm glad Rob forced me to take an advanced medical course."

"Why?" Eli asked. "Why did you save him?"

"Eli, you may think I'm a bitch, but if someone is shot I'm not going to let them bleed out," I said, my tone harsh. Did he really think I was that low that I'd let someone die? "How badly do you think of me!"

"No, I didn't mean it like that," Eli said quickly.

"What did you mean then?" I snapped and crossed my arms over my chest.

"I..." Eli sighed. "I thought maybe that because you hate the Agency so much you don't care about what happens to the agents."

"You thought wrong," I muttered. "Eli don't make assumptions about me when you hardly know me. We argue and fight, we don't tell each other our deep and darkest secrets, okay? That's all we will ever do, argue."

Eli pursed his lips. "I wouldn't want to know your deep and darkest secrets anyway," he muttered and I rolled my eyes.

Eli pulled up at the security gates outside the Agency and flashed his ID card. The security guard looked into the car and his eyes landed on me. "Make sure she goes straight to Rob," he said. "He's expecting her."

"Yay," I murmured and rolled my eyes as Eli nodded and carried on driving.

"You and Rob-"

"Do you remember what happened last time you spoke about my father?" I said sharply, shooting Eli a look.

"Vividly," he said dryly.

"Don't make the same mistake," I warned.

"Why don't you get along?" Eli questioned. "I mean, you're such a lovely girl and all."

"Shut the hell up," I said. "My life doesn't concern you."

"Keep your hair on, princess," Eli said. "It was just a question."

I narrowed my eyes at Eli. "Why don't you and Adam get along?"

"My life doesn't concern you," Eli shrugged and I scoffed.

"He doesn't like many people," I said. "He doesn't really like many of the guys apart from Blake."

"Does he know you're fucking Blake?"

"Oh yeah, I talk in great depth to my brother about my sex life," I scoffed.

"No need for the sarcasm," Eli muttered.

"Me and Adam haven't the best relationship."

"Really I never would have guessed," Eli said and rolled his eyes. "Do you have a good relationship with anyone?"

"Stop asking questions," I said coldly.

"Yes ma'am," Eli said and I glared at him. The Agency slowly came into view and Eli and I were silent as we got out of the car and walked towards the large building.

I hated walking into this place. Everyone looked at me like I was a loose canon about to blow. Whenever I stepped foot into this building I could see all the agents prepare for me to do a runner. I couldn't sneeze without at least 5 people watching me.

"It's like I've shot Rob or something," I said and rolled my eyes.

"You're the only ever person to successfully evade the Agency for more than two days," Eli said. "And you took a girl hostage."

"Come on, you know I wasn't going to do anything," I said. "I just wanted to freak everyone out a bit."

Eli shook his head and nudged me over to the lift. We stepped in and I scowled at the button for the top floor as I pushed it. The ride to the top of the Agency was silent and I sighed as the doors opened.

"I feel like I'm on death row," I murmured and walked out of the lift. I made my way to Rob's office and walked straight in, glaring when I saw James sitting beside my father.

"Daisy, I'm surprised you've actually come," Rob said and checking his watch. "And five minutes early."

"I should get daughter of the year," I said sarcastically and walked over to the middle of the room and sat down in the chair opposite Rob and James.

"Thank you, Eli," Rob called. "Noah is in the holding cells. Try and get him to listen without freaking out."

"I'll do my best," Eli nodded and shut the door to Rob's office, leaving me alone with James and Rob.

"So," Rob sighed and looked at me. "Where do we begin with you, Daisy?"

I raised an eyebrow and crossed my arms over my chest. "Throw it at me, Rob."

"James and I spoke recently about possibly giving you more freedom," Rob said. "I was going to end your house arrest, until you fucked up."

I rolled my eyes. "I skipped one counselling session to do school work, so what?"

"Is that all you've done?" Rob asked, narrowing his eyes at me.

"...Yes."

"So you didn't sneak out to a party?" Rob said and I sighed.

"Who told you?" I muttered.

Rob smiled. "Facebook."

"What the hell is it with me and social fucking media!" I scowled and Rob slid his tablet over the desk to show me a Facebook photo. In the background of the photo was me with a bottle of beer and a cigarette in my hands. "I seriously thought I had got away with that."

"That's twice you've broke the rules," Rob snapped. "I am not happy, Daisy."

"When are you ever happy when it comes to me?" I asked.

"James and I have discussed punishments," Rob said, glaring icily at me.

"Hit me."

"You're going down to the holding cells," Rob said and I arched an eyebrow at him.

"What?"

"Since you are incapable of staying in the confines of your house," Rob said and I rolled my eyes. "For the next two weeks you will stay here at the Agency under my supervision."

"You're going to lock me up?" I said.

"I am."

"You're mental."

"You broke the rules," Rob shrugged. "James will come and see you everyday. You will train everyday and you will not argue."

"You do realise this is your daughter you're doing this to?" I said slowly.

"Daisy, don't use the daughter card. You make it your mission to show how much you dislike being my 'adopted' daughter," Rob scowled. "You will accept your punishment and at the end of the two weeks your freedom will start to be slowly returned."

"Freedom?" I scoffed. "I'll never be free." I raised my wrist.

"Daisy, I don't understand how your views on the Agency have changed so drastically," Rob sighed. "You used to love being here. You loved your team, helping us do good in the world, now you hate it."

"I don't want to kill people," I said bitterly.

"You never had a problem with it before."

"People change."

"Not really," Rob said. "People never change that much."

"Well I have," I snapped.

Rob pursed his lips and picked up a file from his desk. He threw it to me and I sighed, looking down at it.

"What's this?" I asked.

"It's a mission," Rob said. "For Beth."

"Why are you giving me this?"

"Read it," Rob ordered.

"No."
