Chapter 23

Ch. 23 / 97 Oct 17, 2025

I gasped in shock when Jack stumbled into the lounge with his arms wrapped around a nearly unconscious Hampson. "Shit!" Blake cursed and bolted up from the sofa and helped Jack support Hampson's weight. They were both covered in blood, however where Jack was standing Hampson was not. "What the fuck happened?"

"It was a set up!" Jack exclaimed. "We were outnumbered."

"What are his injuries?" I demanded, jumping up from the sofa.

"He's been shot twice, in the leg and stomach," Jack said and I noticed a dark patch of blood on his arm.

"And you?"

"Flesh wound, it went in and out, I'm not the one that needs worrying about," Jack said dismissively.

"Get Hampson into the kitchen!" I ordered. "Mason, swap with Jack. Jack, sit down now and put pressure on your wound."

Jack looked like he wanted to protest, but Blake gave him a stern look. "Daisy knows what she's talking about. Man the fuck up and listen to her!"

Mason quickly swapped with Jack and him and Blake dragged Hampson into the kitchen.

"Eli, how are you with first aid?" I asked, completely ignoring a shocked Noah sitting next to him. "Actually, you can't be any worse than Oli and Mason. Whoever is the best out of your team tend to Jack."

Eli knew that now was not the time to argue with me and Tom quickly stood up and directed Jack to a seat. "I'm fine-"

"Jack, Hampson could be dying right now, do not make me neglect him because you are fucking stubborn!" I snapped and turned on my heel and rushed into the kitchen.

The table had been cleared and Hampson had been laid out on his back. A small groan escaped his lips and his eyes fluttered shut. He was slick with sweat and his skin as sickly pale.

"Mase, get the first aid kit!" Blake ordered and in seconds a first aid kit was being shoved in my direction. I grabbed a pair of latex gloves and pulled them on. I then turned to Hampson and ripped his tshirt away from his stomach. "I'll deal with the leg wound," Blake said. "It was clean, it came straight out the other side so it just needs cleaning and stitching up."

I carefully rolled Hampson onto his side so I could see his back and swore when the skin was smooth. "The bullets still in him," I muttered and laid him flat again. "Shit!" I reached into the first aid kit and grabbed a pair of sterile tweezers. I ripped the packet open and grabbed some antiseptic to clear the wound. I poured the liquid over the wound on his stomach and wiped away the large amount of blood. I then got to work on locating the bullet.

I gripped the tweezers tightly in one hand and moved them into the wound, trying to get the bullet that I could see. Hampson groaned loudly and I swore. "Hampson? Can you hear me?" I called, not looking up from the wound. "Hampson, I need you to focus on our voices. Mason, get your ass over here and talk to him."

"What am I meant to say?"

"Talk about the fucking weather!" I snapped. "I don't know! Just try to keep him responsive."

I zoned Mason out as he actually started talking to Hampson about the weather and focused on the pair of tweezers in my hand. It was a few tense minutes before I felt the tweezers graze the bullet and I took a deep breath as I gripped tightly onto the bullet and pulled it from Hampson's flesh.

I sighed in relief when the bullet clanked against a metal tray Blake had put on the side and I quickly got to work cleaning and stitching the wound.

Hampson's groans got louder as both Blake and I stitched him up, but we were forced to block out his pain and concentrate on keeping him alive.

"Someone call The Agency!" Blake yelled. "We've stitched him up as best as we can, but he needs serious medical attention!"

"Already done!" Oli replied and Carter poked his head into the room.

"H-How is he?" He wondered.

"Not dead," I said and looked down at my blood stained clothes. "Great," I muttered and ripped the plastic gloves off and chucked them in the bin. "How's Jack?"

"I'm fine!" Jack called and I walked back into the lounge. Eli was crouching in front of Jack, inspecting the perfectly bandaged arm.

I raised an eyebrow, half impressed at his first aid skills. "What happened?" I asked. "It's not like you to get shot."

"I didn't intend too!" Jack muttered. "I don't know what went wrong. We went to take out the targets and suddenly we were surrounded. We were lucky to make it out of there."

"Did anyone follow you back here?"

Blake asked, walking up next to me.

"Do you think I'm stupid?" Jack scoffed. "Of course they didn't."

"We need to call Rob," Blake said. "Find out what went wrong."

"We need to wait until help comes for Hampson, then we'll talk to Rob," I said.

"He's in meetings today though, he might not reply to us-"

"A mission he's in charge of fucked up," I shrugged. "I'll barge into his office, I don't care. Something went wrong and we need to know what, especially when it endangers our team."

The guys all turned to me with surprised expressions. "I thought you didn't care about The Agency," Blake said smugly.

"I care if my friends get shot!" I defended myself.

"Um..."

All attention went to Noah who was looking at us with wide eyes.

"Shit," I cursed.

"What the hell?" Noah exclaimed. "He just... They... Blood! What is going on!"

"Eli, you brought him here, you deal with him," I said as my phone started to ring. I turned my back to them as I took my phone out and held it to my ear.

"Daisy, open the door, get Hampson ready," Adam's voice came through my phone. "We're 30 seconds away." The phone went dead.

"They're close!" I called and walked to the front door. I opened it and saw one of the Agency's car drive down our road. Some guys, that I vaguely recognised as medics, rushed out of the car and ran into the house, nearly barging me over in the process. They had a stretcher with them and they quickly went into the kitchen.

Adam got out of the car in less of a rush and walked up to me. He scoffed when he saw my face and shook his head. "Nice face."

"Shut up," I scowled. "Why are you here?"

"Can't I visit my little sister?" He mocked and rolled his eyes. "Hampson and Jack got shot, I was driving the medics as I knew where you lived."

"Guys, move!" One of the medics called and Adam and I jumped out of the way as they carried Hampson out on a stretcher.

"Will he be okay?" I asked, stopping the last medic.

"We won't know until we examine him fully. We saw that you guys stitched him up, that stopped a lot of blood loss which could've saved his life," the medic said. "We'll keep you updated." The medic walked over to the car and they were driving away in seconds.

"Well, it's good to know that the Agency is snappy when it comes to someone being injured," I said and looked at Adam. "It's a good thing you're here actually, being the SO of the recruitment mission I'm being forced to be on."

"It is?"

"Follow me," I said and walked back into house. I stopped in the lounge and crossed my arms over my chest, looking from Adam to a shell shocked Noah. "He is highly confused," I informed Adam.

"S-Sir?" Noah stuttered. "What are you doing here?"

"What does he know?" Adam asked, ignoring Noah.

"Nothing," Eli said. "He just witnessed Jack bursting in with Hampson and overheard a few things that probably have him very confused."

Adam pursed his lips and turned to look at Noah. "Well, Noah, what shall we do with you?"

"I think I'm just going to g-go," Noah stuttered and stood up, but Adam shook his head.

"Sit down, Noah," he ordered.

Eli grabbed Noah's arm and shoved him down onto the sofa. "Calm down, mate," he muttered.

"Calm down!" Noah freaked. "Those guys were just shot! You two are covered in blood!" He pointed at Blake and I. "And I have no idea what the fuck is going on!"

"Noah, shut the hell up," I said sharply. "Adam, you were going to recruit him anyway, let's just speed the process up."

"Recruit?" Noah exclaimed and Adam glared at me.

"Noah, come with me, we're going for a ride," Adam said.

"Oh God, this is where you kill me, isn't it?" Noah groaned.

"Man the fuck up!" I said. "He's not going to kill you, Jesus!"

"Alright Noah," Adam sighed. "I need to let you in on a little secret; I'm not a teacher. In fact, I'm a highly trained assassin who is getting rather pissed off so you better get off your ass and follow me to my car or I may consider killing you."

I rolled my eyes at Adam's antics, but they seem to have persuaded Noah who stood up, with the help of a push from Eli, and walked over to Adam.

"Make sure you see Rob later," Adam said firmly and looked at me. "He is not happy with you."

"Take that smug look off your face," I snapped. "Anyone would think that you'd get used to me always getting in trouble and not always seem so happy about it."

"Daisy, you're stupidity and idiocy will never fail to amuse me," Adam said dryly and placed his hand on Noah's shoulder and shoved him out of the room.

"Well," Mason said once we were alone. "That was eventful."

"No shit," Jack scoffed and groaned when he moved his arm.

"I know this is completely irrelevant," Tom spoke up and looked at me. "But if I remember correctly, you kissed me Daisy."

"I had to sell the act," I shrugged and smiled innocently. "I'm off to shower all of this crap off me." I turned on my heel and made my way upstairs to my room. I stripped out of my bloody clothes and chucked them in the corner of my bathroom before turning the shower on and stepping into the bath.

The water had barely turned hot when the door to my bathroom opened and Blake walked in.

"Come in," I said sarcastically. "I'm not busy or anything."

Blake smirked and pulled his top off, throwing it on top of my pile. "Why waste water?" He shrugged and lowered his jeans to the floor.

I rolled my eyes and turned to the shower head, letting the warm water stream down me. Blake joined me a few seconds later and placed his hands on my waist, he softly kissed my neck and smirked.

"Eli wasn't happy about you kissing his best friend," Blake murmured from behind me.

"Good," I chuckled.

"Thank you for earlier," Blake said. "I wouldn't have put it past you to let me deal with Hampson by myself, considering you're so against the Agency."

"Your faith in me is overwhelming," I said sarcastically with a laugh. "I'm against the Agency, but I'm not heartless. I'm the best medic out of everyone here, I wasn't going to sit there and watch while Hampson bled out."

"So, despite numerous opinions about you, you're not a bitch," Blake teased and I span round suddenly, pushing him up against the tiled wall.

"Not a complete bitch," I smiled and tangled my fingers in Blake's hair, bringing his head down to kiss him.

I glanced at my phone as my screen flashed and sighed.

Joey.

"Who's Joey, sweetcheeks?" Mason wondered, snatching my phone from beside me before I could decline the call.

"Nobody, give me my phone, Mason!" I said sternly and tried to grab my phone from Mason.

"Daisy's phone, this is her wonderfully handsome housemate Mason talking," Mason said loudly, smirking to himself. "Who are you Joey?"

"Give me my phone!" I snapped, but he held it out of my reach.

"Joey? Who might you be, Joey?" Mason asked, turning on his 'protective big brother' voice.

"Don't be an ass!" I groaned.

"Joey from school?" Mason said and looked at Eli who was lounging on the opposite sofa, boredly scrolling through his phone. "Eli, who is this Joey?"

"Mason!" I yelled. "Give me my damn phone!"

Eli looked at me and smirked darkly. "He's her friend, but I suggested him to Adam because Daisy didn't want too."

"So he's a potential recruit?" Blake wondered, raising his eyebrows questioningly.

"No!" I said quickly. "He's not!"

"Yes," Eli nodded. "He is."

"So, Joey," Mason said into the phone and I quickly stood up, jumped onto Mason's back and grabbed my phone from his hand.

"Sorry, Joey, gotta go!" I said into the phone and hung up. "He's not being recruited!" I said and dropped down from Mason's back and sat back down on the sofa next to Blake.

"You don't control who's recruited," Eli said. "He fits everything we look for. Adam is already keeping an eye on him.

"Why would you do that!" I scowled. "Why would you suggest him!"

"Because that's the mission," Eli shrugged. "And because you've neglected it you have no say about Joey whatsoever. If he gets recruited he gets recruited. End of."

"You're an asshole!" I hissed.

"You care for this Joey kid," Blake said. "He was who's house you were at earlier."

"Okay, we are changing the conversation!" I said loudly. "Any news about Noah?"

"Yeah, apparently he's freaking out like a baby," Jack laughed.

"Erik and Oli have been called in. He met them today and Adam hopes some familiar faces will help to calm him down," Blake said.

"You're his friend," I said, looking at Eli. "Why aren't you there 'calming him down'?"

"I'm going soon," Eli said.

"He's dropping you off for your meeting with Rob then going to Noah," Blake explained and I rolled my eyes.

"How pissed off with me is he?" I wondered.

"Extremely."

"What's the betting I'll get kicked out of the Agency?" I said sarcastically.

"You can dream, sweetcheeks," Mason chuckled and I sighed.

"I think the only way I'll get out is either running away or getting shot," I muttered.

"Well, you know it's impossible to run away and you're too good to get shot," Blake and wrapped his arm around my shoulder. "Looks like you're stuck here, Dais."

"Great."
