She had curly, platinum blonde hair and she was wearing a tiny skirt and a blouse that revealed her flat abdomen. Her skin was tanned, as though she spent regular hours under those sun tanning capsules.
She touched his arm and gently pulled him to her. Nick responded by touching her chin and whispering something to her, which made her laugh giddily. The sight made me want to puke in disgust. I felt as if the knot in my stomach tightened painfully and I felt the urge to run to Nick and punch all his teeth down his throat.
You filthy womanizer, you fucking idiot! But of course, I could only scream at him inside my head. Nicholas had every right to do what he does best: pick up easy girls dressed like bitches in heat!
“So, how does this work?” Brett asked. “Are you going to stand by his car and wait for him to finish with that girl, or is the girl going home with both of you?”
“I am not sure. I guess we’ll find out,” I replied.
“You can always catch a ride with us. If you have his house keys, we can drop you off,” Brett said.
“I don’t have keys to his house,” I said sadly. It didn’t seem right for me to ask for it, considering I was living in Nick’s house on charity.
Then something in what Brett said actually caught my attention. “Wait, we?” I asked. “Who’s we?”
Brett looked stunned for a moment as if he had forgotten that he was not supposed to tell me something.
I raised a brow at him. “Uh, my girlfriend. I was going to introduce you to each other.”
“Girlfriend?” I echoed. “Since when do you do girlfriends?”
Brett rolled his eyes. “Thanks, dude. I appreciate your very high opinion of me.”
“I thought all you do is hook up with easy girls and then move on to the next available skirt!” I said that a little bit louder, not for Brett’s benefit, but for Nick’s.
That actually got his attention. He looked surprised to see me standing a few feet away from him. He turned to the girl and whispered something in her ear. She giggled and gave Nick a card. She smiled at him provocatively before Nick opened her car door for her.
“This guy’s a fucking manslut!” I whispered under my breath.
“And you care so much because…?” Brett whispered to me so Nick would not hear.
“Because I live in his house, and I have low immunity to germs and bacteria,” I said in an irritated tone.
“Right, whatever you say.” There was amusement in Brett’s voice.
Finally, Nick was standing in front of us.
“Ready to go?” he asked. His mood was light and jolly as if he had just hit the jackpot, which added more to my vile mood. Of course! He was going to get laid in a few days if he played his cards right with that slut!
In fact, why don’t I up his chances? Maybe I was getting in the way of his sex life. It would be way easier for him to get lucky if I wasn’t in the picture.
“You know what? Brett and I agreed that I’ll sleep over tonight,” I announced.
“We… we did?” Brett asked innocently.
My cousin was a useless moron!
“Yes!” I turned to him, giving him a ride-along-or-I’ll-murder-you look.
“Oh, yeah… You… I’ll introduce my girlfriend to you and you can get to know each other.”
“Yes!” I said, with overenthusiasm. I turned to Nick and said, “You can go back to the little tramp you’re already banging inside your head. I don’t want to be a deterrent to your very active sex life. I’m sure living with a girl who looks like a boy can be very tiring and boring for somebody who constantly masturbates to supermodel hot girls with fake boobs and collagen-infused pouty lips!”
I didn’t give him a chance to argue. I turned around and pulled Brett with me.
“Take me away from here, take me away from here,” I whispered to him.
My heart was pounding inside my ribcage. I didn’t know what had gotten into me, but seeing Nick with that tramp made me want to hit something or someone and I was not usually a violent person. I believed that Nicholas was a beautiful person with a good soul. But the lower half of his body gave him a completely different persona and I hated that about him.
He would have been a perfect guy and I’ve wondered how it would feel like to be with him. But how could I even think about doing the nasty with him if he didn’t give a damn about who he goes to the boneyard with as long as she has a vagina? I’ve always known he was a playboy, but why did I change my opinion about him? I was so disappointed! With him, and more so with myself! I should know better. Really, such a disappointment!
I sort of heard a girl speak in front of me. “Hello, Ken. Are you surprised to see me?”
“Dude! I hope you’re gonna be happy about this. She means a lot to me and so do you. So it’s important that the two of you get along well.” That was Brett’s voice, whispering subtly in my ear.
I stared at them blankly and said, “I’m so disappointed!” I said that with so much conviction, so much emotion. I found two pairs of eyes looking at me in shock.
It was only then that I realized I was staring into a pair of familiar green eyes. Her face was angelic, but right now she was on the verge of tears—out of fear and frustration. Then I realized what I had just said.
Shit! The last time I talked to this girl, she was also crying—because Jennifer and her mother were beating the life out of her. What was she doing in front of me now, holding Brett by the arm?
Then it hit me. Brett said he’d introduce me to his girlfriend. This girl was important to him and I should be nice.
Seriously? Terry Lakefield? Wow! Last time, I remembered telling her she should dump her boyfriend because she deserves better.
I could say I was impressed. Brett definitely was a huge improvement over JD Collins! He’s hotter, smarter, and more talented. JD Collins was just rich. Brett used to be filthy rich too but now he plays in a band to send himself to college. But that actually made him a tougher, stronger human being. Moreover, Brett was loyal. He hadn’t had a girlfriend before. Ergo, he didn’t have a history of cheating in spite of having an active sex life.
“I’m sorry to disappoint you,” Terry said quietly. “But I’ll try my best to measure up to your standards.”
Shit! What have I done?
I held my hands up. “No!” I said immediately. “I didn’t mean you!”
“You were looking at her,” Brett said crossly.
“I meant somebody else.”
“You were talking to her,” Brett pressed further. “Really, she’s a disappointment, huh.”
“No, no!” Shit! I have absolutely zero people skills! Why did I think about becoming a shrink?
I turned to where Nick’s car was. He was still standing there, leaning against his car, looking absolutely pissed off. He was watching me, the look on his face unfathomable. Then he took a step toward us.
I panicked. I turned to Brett. “Come on, come on! Let’s go! Let’s fix this in the car, but please! Get me out of here!” I said, pulling Terry and Brett toward Brett’s car.
I hopped in the backseat and shouted at Brett to hurry up. When we left, we went past Nick’s car. He was still there, staring at us as we sped off.
