It'd been a month since Isabella moved in with Darian and Lena. Things hadn't been all rosy for her and most especially for them, they'd always try to keep up with Isabella and her moods.
Ever since that day she'd had a conversation with Darian, things had changed between them and she had tried to always avoid him whenever he was present. But maybe she would have to call him today if Lena didn't stop behaving funnily
Lena had been roaming the living room, supporting her back with both hands. She had been complaining of headaches and backaches and Isabella had been trying to help her out with whatever she wanted. She wondered what happened to her the previous night, she was fine the previous day and she didn't have any of these strange attitudes.
"What do you want to eat?" Isabella asked when she'd crouched down on the sofa. Her eyes were fixed on Lena, she was looking a bit different.
"Chicken," Lena responded.
"You rejected the chicken the first time I brought it to you." Isabella sighed. "What exactly is wrong with you?"
"I don't know, Isa. I am nauseous. I am craving many things and thoughts of them just make me want to throw up." She scrunched up her nose in disgust. "I am hungry, but I don't want to eat."
"Maybe you should call your husband to get you your cravings. I think that would do."
Lena thought carefully about it before grabbing her phone from the coffee table to call her husband.
"No, I don't want to bother him. He will be so busy with work, poor Darian." She pressed her lips together, directing her eyes to Isabella. "Did Tina cook before leaving for college?" She queried.
"You rejected the food she cooked too, remember?" Isabella smiled, she suddenly remembered how she felt the same way many years ago and how Raymond would always make sure to satisfy her cravings. "Lena, when was the last time you saw your period?"
Lena stared down shyly, that was a question she hadn't bothered about. It'd been a while since she saw it, but she always let it slide and didn't worry about it. There were days it fluctuated like that for her, but now that Isabella was talking about it, she felt a little bit scared.
"What has my sickness got to do with my period?" She retorted, batting her eyelashes as she gawked at Isabella.
"You are a married woman, Lena. What does it mean when a married woman wakes up one day and suddenly craves weird things, feels sick and loses her appetite?" She smiled sheepishly at a confused Lena.
"I still don't understand what you are talking about," Lena said.
"You might be pregnant," Isabella dropped the words and it sounded like a bombshell to Lena.
She flinched on the couch she was seated on. Her eyes roamed the room, settling on everything around.
Isabella was right, she might be pregnant. She stopped taking the pills and she and Darian had been together almost every night. She never thought of that fact. Gasping, her jaw dropped in surprise.
"Pregnant, you say?" She looked at Isabella, eyes widely opened.
"These are the symptoms, but I would want you to go see a Doctor, and take a pregnancy test to be sure what's wrong with you. But I am sure that you are not down with a fever, there is something more." She shifted closer to where Lena was seated and patted her back. "Are you scared?" She asked.
Lena shook her head. She wasn't certain what she was feeling. Though she wasn't sure yet, she felt it was kind of true. She could be pregnant again. Her hand dropped to her tummy and she looked down at it.
"I don't know what to do if I am truly pregnant, Isabella. I am lost, what do I do?"
"First things first. Go to the hospital to get tested. We will talk more about this if you are truly pregnant." She took Lena's hands, stroking her fingers.
"I am scared,"
"Don't be, call your husband home and let him know that you'd want to visit the hospital. I am certain that he would be happy to hear the news."
"It's not yet confirmed though." Lena smiled, she imagined what Darian's reaction would be if she was pregnant. She knew that he would be overjoyed, but was she ready to mother a child now? She looked back at Isabella and sighed. "I have a car, I can go to the hospital on my own. I guess that's better, or, wait, do you think I should buy some pregnant test kits?"
"No, I will advise that you go to the hospital." Isabella let go of Lena's hand and smiled at her. "I would be happy if this turns out to be a pregnancy."
Lena nodded her head, she had no idea the baby was going to be her grandchild if she was truly pregnant. She suddenly felt bad for not telling Isabella the reason she was brought to their home.
Lena wanted to spill all the secrets to her right there, but she held herself back from doing it. She was getting impatient already, it'd been a month and Isabella was still recovering. She had refused to talk about the past since that day she had an encounter with Darian.
"Thank you, Isabella." Lena meant her words. Her husband's mother had to be one of the best people she knew after her best friend, Lisa and husband.
"I will come with you to the hospital," Isabella offered. "Lena, can you tell me the real reason you and Darian are still keeping me here with you guys?"
"Er, don't you like it here? Darian and I figured you don't have a home to go back to and we decided to bring you here."
"I do, I have a house."
"Er, not conducive enough and you are still recuperating. My husband wants you to heal perfectly fine before you go back home, but it's fine if you don't love it here. I will let him know and he will make arrangements to take you back to your home."
"I have a house, Lena. Not a home. And right here feels like home, I want to stay here if you'd let me." Isabella smiled.
"It's fine!" Lena clapped her hands, "Let's get to the hospital for now. I have to know what's wrong with me." She rose to her feet, grabbing her car keys from the media set.
Isabella stood up and they walked out of the living room together, heading towards the garage.
Lena was worried, she couldn't wait to get to the hospital anymore. She wanted to know what was wrong with her.
