138: Attempted Kidnapped

Ch. 138 / 193 Mar 05, 2025

Bryce exited the ward feeling downcast inside but outwardly, he kept a composed face. He paid less attention to the environment and didn't bother to even call the doctor.

"You two come with me and you two stay here and make sure nothing happens to her," Bryce instructed, walking away with two guards following him.

He pulled his phone out and made a call to Martin.

"Martin, get in touch with Zora and give her the address I am sending you. Tell her Angela needs her," Bryce said on the call.

He felt Angela would need her friend around her.

"Yes sir," Martin replied.

"Have you found Josephine yet?" Byrce asked seeing it's been close to two hours since he last called Martin.

"No, sir," Martin replied. "I am still searching," he added.

"Keep me updated," Bryce said.

Once he ended the call, he called Matilda.

"Hello Mrs Davis," Bryce said. "I am at the hospital, I just got my wife out of prison. Your daughter is missing. I suspect Devon has her. I have already tasked Martin to look for her. I will let you know as soon as we confirm where she is," he said.

"Oh no," Matilda said on the call. "How long has she been missing?" she asked.

"Martin informed me about it, two hours ago," Bryce replied.

"Oh, dear. Two hours. She is dead," Matilda said breaking down.

"You don't know that yet," Bryce said trying to tell Matilda not to rush into conclusion.

"If Devon has her and it's been two hours now, she is dead," Matilda said.

"Calm down. Let's not think that until we are sure she is," Bryce said.

"Bryce listen to me. Devon is more dangerous than he looks. He will show his true colours now that he knows you know everything. Bring Angela to the family house immediately. The security here is tight. She is in danger," Matilda warned.

"I left two of the guards to watch over her," Bryce said about to enter into his car.

"Bryce listen to me. Angela is not safe. Get her out of the place immediately," Matilda said.

"Fine," Bryce replied and ended the call.

"Wait here, I will be back," Bryce said to the two guards and headed back to the hospital.

Inside the hospital, Bryce wanted to request Angela's discharge but decided he would inform her about it first. He went back to Angela's ward and was shocked to find one of the guards lying on the floor in front of the ward motionless. His heart skipped multiple beats. It's been barely five minutes since he left the place. He rushed into the ward and the bed was empty and the other guard was lying on the floor inside the ward.

Bryce exited the ward and quickly realized, aside from the receptionist, that the hospital appeared to be empty.

"This is a set-up," Bryce said and pulled his phone. "They couldn't have gone far," he said and ran out of the hospital.

Once he stepped outside, he saw a car driving out of the compound. The other two guards were lying on the floor with a bullet each on their head. His car tyres had been shot, but he had read the registration number of the car which just drove out of the compound. He dialled Matilda's number.

"Matilda, they took her. Angela has been taken. I have the car registration number. Can you have someone track them?" Bryce said as he walked out the gate.

"Yes, I can. Quick, send the number to me," Matilda said.

Bryce sent the car number to Matilda and he tasked Martin to rather go pick up Zora and Mrs Anderson and bring them to the Davis family home. He wanted to ensure their safety.

Bryce stopped a taxi and got inside the car.

"I need you to follow that car," Bryce said to the driver and quickly called out the car registration number.

It was a straight road so the car had not made a turn yet. It was still visible even though it was far away.

"Step on it," Bryce said. "Someone will die if you don't," he added.

"I am sorry, sir," the driver said and Bryce pulled a pistol from his inner coat.

"I said move," Bryce yelled at the driver pointing the gun to his head.

"Yes, sir," the driver replied and quickly put the car into motion.

He stepped on the accelerator and the car went to full speed. The car they were chasing made some turns and the taxi driver followed them.

"Step on it," Bryce yelled at the driver and the taxi driver stepped on the accelerator adding more speed.

The police soon joined in the chase.

"Don't stop, keep moving. You only stop if that car stops," Bryce said still holding the gun to the driver's head. "Lose the cops," he added and the driver just nodded.

The driver put his best into it. He started making some moves causing the police cars chasing him to bump into each other or another car. The car they were chasing soon went off the road into a park but quickly ran into a poll. The taxi driver got there in time so they saw a man get out of the back seat of the car and run off.

Bryce got out of the taxi and quickly went to the car and found Angela lying in the back seat of the car unconscious. The taxi driver seized the opportunity to also run but two police cars made it to the scene and the taxi driver raised his hand in surrender.

"Freeze," screamed one officer holding up his gun. He was soon joined by two other officers.

Bryce pulled Angela out of the car which had some smoke coming out of the bonnet. He carried her in his arms ignoring the officer's scream to halt. After taking a couple of walks he stopped. Just then two big cars with the Davis family symbol at the front drove to the scene. Matilda got down and six bodyguards came out of the car with her.

"Officer, who is your leader?" Matilda asked and the three officers at the scene just stared at Matilda.

One officer responded knowing exactly who Matilda was.

"That is my grandson," Matilda said and briefly pointed to Bryce who was still standing there carrying Angela in his arms. "He was after that car to save my daughter-in-law. The criminal you should be looking for is the owner of that crushed car," she said. "Please allow my son to take my daughter-in-law to the hospital before something happens to her and my great-grandchild inside her," she added.

"You know my house. If you have any questions, feel free to pass by," Matilda said commanding respect.

"Sure, ma'am," the officer said and moved towards the crushed car to see what he could find.

Bryce left the place with Matilda and the guards. The taxi driver was paid and he also left the place in his car happy nothing bad happened to him.

At Devon's home, he was sitting inside a basement with Josephine sitting in from of him tied up. His phone rang.

"I told you, I would be getting you a friend," Devon said and answered the call.

"Speaker," Devon said.

"Sir, mission failed," the caller said. "We were caught by Bryce and he took her away," he added. "I lost two of men," he informed him.

"What nonsense are you talking about. How did you lose her?" Devon yelled on the call and Josephine smiled picking from Devon's tone whatever he wanted to do failed.

Devon saw Josephine smile and he picked up his gun. He pulled the trigger and let out the bullet.
